this brought a lot of memories back of learning how to read, I had a very hard time knowing where the words start and stop even with the gaps, I had to focus on where the gaps were and then sound out the word but it took a moment for me to find the word, it just looked like a row of letters. My parents wanted to leave me back but ended up taking me out of public school and put me in a Catholic school.

Even at 40 I still don't no my talent or what job I'll love to do be good if you could talk on that as all we hear is do what you love and most of don't no what we love. I do gardening as I'm not good at useing a pc even if thinking about useing one screars me haha. Good to talk on this for adults as so many people only talk about the kids haveing it not many talk about grown ups have Dyslexia

29 years old. Not sure if I actually am dyslexic has I’ve never been screened. But all my life I’ve struggled to read and spell. After elementary school hours I would go to my great-uncles house for 3 hours and he would spend time with me, helping me with maths, reading, and spelling. I went on to high school still struggling to read, I would hate it in class when we would go around ready parts from a book. I’d sitting going over and over the part I was about to read to try and just remember it for my turn, which I would just stand up just saying roughly what the page was saying as I would register the words or focus on them.
It got to the point that in English class a teacher would take me to the library for the hour to ready children’s books, that was during my early to mid teen years. I never thought much of it just that I was probably stupid, and embarrassed to tell my friends why I was removed from the class room.
About 20 my family said they think I may be dyslexic, which I never really researched.
But recently I’ve been researching it and everything I’m ready describes everything I’ve struggled and continue to struggle with. Even things I thought were just me problems. Like I’ve always struggled articulating through myself onto paper, and articulating thoughts, I’ve always described speaking topeople like it’s like my mind is 10 steps ahead of my mouth causing me to stumble over words, pronounce them wrong, use the wrong word, or even completely forget how to pronounce the word even easy words.
And at work I’m terribly disorganised, plus other areas, and time. Then I’m my memory is absolutely crap, I can for something straight away, but I can remember someone’s face I’ve meet for 5 minutes 2 years ago. Another thing I’ve noticed but only just put two and two together is if someone gives me several instructions I’ll rennet the first and maybe the 2nd but after that my mind is blank (which my wife accuses me of not listening)
My lefts and rights are good though. Because I just remember which my right hand is, that mean the other is my left. My maths is actually not to bad these days I use my imagination to break the numbers down to multiple, ad or take away, which helps me be pretty quick. There’s other things I experience sometimes like people speak to me and watching tv and not understanding what the hell someone is saying like I’m not registering the words. Like reading a line in a book and having to read it 5,10,20 times to know what it’s saying.
Ive not even told me work the struggles I have because I fear it my impact my progression in the company. Which just makes me feel like a fraud. I’m head of sale, project install, and manufacturing and shipment of a manufacturing and design company.
I’ve down those online screaming test which take 5-10min and they come back moderate to serve dyslexic. But who’s know how accurate they are.
I want to be screened to know for sure if I am dyslexic but part of me is scared. Scared that it turns out I’m just stupid.
I guess I’m writing this comment for help. If you have experience with dyslexia, do you recognise my symptoms?
I need to know, because I really want to improve what I can for my family and work.
Anyone can email me if you have any advice

Hi, Archie. Thanks for your question. The struggles you mention are typical symptoms of dyslexia. Are you in the UK? Or U.S.? I can provide some resources, once I know which country you are in. Have a great day.

Thanks for your question! A diagnosis of dyslexia actually has to be provided by a doctor or psychologist who specializes in learning issues. If you are interested in an official evaluation, the IDA maintains a list of providers. Here is their website. dyslexiaida.org/
