Isabel Jewell. She is memorialized with star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was in five Oscar nominated films : A Tale of Two Cities (1935), Lost Horizon (1937), Gone with the Wind (1939), The Bishop's Wife (1947) and The Snake Pit (1948). Sadly, by the 1950s her roles diminished and she fell on hard times: She was found dead in her home in April 1972, aged just 64.
Isabel Jewell was one of the under-recognized great actresses of her generation. Any movie you can find with her is worth watching. She created many great characters, especially later in the film noir style.
A Good, fun picture! First time4 me to see Mr.Crabbe&Ms.Blaine in a movie! Such a decent, down to earth movie! Too bad Mr.Toomey's character was"tragically ended" in the film.Thanks,PizzaFlix4 showing movie!

If you didn't smoke in the 30's than you would not become a 'star' - just about everybody in 30's media smoked or pretended to smoke. Crabb would have coughed for 20 minutes if he took a deep drag on that cigarette between his fingers!
Who played the role of sally?

What a great movie! A masterpiece of its modest type. Not a word or image is wasted. Jewell and Crabbe bring real feeling to their parts.
The more I see these ol movies the more i realize the beautiful good and young talented people that were able to win two world wars and how and why!
Another great film!!!

This is before they invented those gas stoppers while filling the tank, wow what a hazard that must have been?
Is that a rear view mirror or a periscope on the jalopy in the opening scene? And now I know why my mother used to sing that song.
