  • Painting rainbows with watercolour, acrylics, and collage, and other art and artist inspiration.
In this video, I pull a calendar page from my 2024 Artist Almanac calendar, a fodder collage resource. I show you some rainbows in my art journal and we paint our own version on 98 lb watercolour paper. Once the watercolour has dried, I show how I like to add acrylic paint and collage as clouds, and other ways to finish them. I read a page from my book "How to Be More Tree", and chat about how I like to define success. At the end of the video, I flip through Angie Lewin's book, "Plants and Places" and talk about a few pages and how they inspire me.
    Book mentions:
"Plants and Places", by Angie Lewin
(inspired to find this book after watching Helen Wells youtube video).
"How to Be More Tree" Illustrated by Annie Davidson

Hi Alison my success today has been using my mixed media journal to paint the lovely botanicals you showed us how to create yesterday. I havnt done the doodles yet but am thrilled to have pushed myself to do something different. I paint for myself and relaxation. I'm 71 years of age and intend to fill my days with colour like yourself. Thank you so much and I look forward to doing rainbows. ❤😘💐

Hi Allison. I always find your words during a video to be very insightful and thought provoking. I find myself sitting here and thinking about your words about success and what it means to me. I am a retired widow and while I paint mostly for myself - I do like to try and sell a few pieces here and there. I have really been enjoying your videos - you give me the push I sometimes need to get my arse in the studio and paint or at least create something. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

I really enjoyed your talk on success today ! It made me reflect and I needed that . Sometimes, I tend to complicate things too much in my head and you taught me today , that I don’t need to be so hard on myself.
“Follow your own path”- I knew this and I forgot this , so thank you Allison !
You are doing better at talking than you give yourself credit . You are passionate about art and that is exactly what we all need. So again thank you and good job ❤❤

    Good advice, Allison. 😊
My definition of success is how I show up for myself, everyday, no matter how small my effort, i give what i can to myself. Putting one foot in front of the other, living with my new normal and learning new things that I enjoy and that inspires me.
I couldn't care less about the hamster wheel / rat race and competing against others that so many people hold as a trophy to their success. My success in supporting others no matter where we are on our journey. We all have our own timeline.
I know what you mean about the unsolicited advice. You do you. 😊
You mention walking our own path. 2nd video today that I've posted affirmation to this. I'm feeling successful for having gone through my own dark night of my soul and knowing I've put the work in to myself to come out the other side. I'm hopeful that as I move forward on my path my journey will lead in wonderful new and exciting directions and i'm discovering interesting people along the way. 🙌

Success for me is taking the time to create art work and loving the way it came out. My art is me. No one can diminish that or take it away from me. I have had fiber work in a museum. No one can diminish that or ever take it away from me. It is part of my accomplishment as an artist. Thank you for inspiration.

Another wonderful video, what a lovely surprise. I painted some beautiful little rainbows along with you while listening to your words. They resonated with me. Now decide what to do with my rainbows. That remains a little bit of a challenge for me, taking things further after painting. Thank you again Allison for doing what you do, I'm very grateful I found you 🙏🩷

I enjoyed a beautiful sunny spring afternoon walk, and made a line drawing in black and white of magnolia blossoms already fading. That to me is success doubled :-) Thank you for your inspiring tangents.

Hi Alison, I love your videos and art. Wondering what camera you use? I am in England but want to do art with my mom in Toronto to help her relax and give her joy , she has Leukemia. It has affected her memory so she finds UA-cam videos confusing and also she just wants to paint with me. So I thought we could do them online and want to get some equipment for it.Grateful for your advice 😘

I record my videos with an iphone and basic tripod that I'd purchased at a place called "Princess Auto" here in Calgary. (it was $10 CAD on sale). I had to buy a phone attachment for it , I think.... or it may have come with that. You need good natural light or you can buy some decent studio lights that clip to the sides of a table.... I recommend a standalone tripod as the clip on desk ones will move when you paint... (your camera will shake with each move). I don't record in high definition as it takes up too much phone space.
videos less that 30 mins are easier to store temporarily (until uploading to youtube). I don't use a separate microphone. I just talk close to my iphone. Hope this helps a bit. It's a lot of trial and error but feel free to reach out if I can help more. Sending healing and creative vibes to your mother and your family.
