don't ignore the fact that kobe had a pretty good offball game. IT wasn't just isos. He also came off flair screens and when posting up, he never took more than 3 seconds to shoot from the post. He was also a quick hitter. A ceiling raising trait that sets players apart like curry, bird or even ray allen
Offensively Kobe had no limitations and didn't care wether he was off or on he was going to keep trying to score.
It helpa that rhe triangle offense was the main lakers offense for a while.

The whole purpose of "analytics" is to inform you of what you didn't see (like misses and turnovers). Also seems like every year he didn't have an All-Star teammate in the post... he pretty much got stopped.

He turned heavily contested double and triple teamed shots into into his signature style. Much Like Kareems Skyhook and Jordan’s Fade-away. Kobe’s contested shots are legendary.

Watching Kobe and MJ play basketball is something beautiful. Such grace. The footwork and the midrange they had was unstoppable. I'd rather see them play than anyone else in the league.

Kobe's skill was unmatched, checkout the footwork and the way he made adjustments in midair in these highlights. Kobe's mid range jumpshot is my favorite shot to watch in the history of basketball.

Kobe’s shot was the only one I studied as a kid. I’d watch him play then go outside to replicate it on commercial breaks. I had that “cheetah tail” fade away down to a science. I even chewed on my jersey like him. So many in my generation learned the game through Kobe.

I watched Jordan but when I new as in my 20s I watched and practiced his post fades and those up unders reverse pivot alot because to me they where like jaw dropping moves for someone who wasn't as athletic as Jordan. He was such an amazing player to watch.

What I don't get is the lack of blocked 3 point attempts, it's like guys aren't even attempting to play D.
If I know you're just going to shoot 3's, then I'm going to guard the 3pt line and force you to pass or put the ball on the floor.
Look at how aggressive guys drive yo the basket, how high they jump.
Those same players "playing defense" barely jump 3 inches when "gaurding" the perimeter.
The video forgot one thing. Unlike most other iso players, Kobe didn't need to dribble a lot. 2-3 dribbles before the shot. No wasted movement. All about efficient footwork and body control. It was so beautiful to watch.

Kobe did a lot of pump fakes and and jab steps because he obviously lost his athleticism pretty quick and he never put on the muscle that MJ or LeBron did.
I think part of that had to do with Kobe's approach to shots. Kobe had favorite spots on the floor that he would drill over and over. He could basically do the right elbow jumper with his eyes closed, so having a hand in his face didn't matter. Space didn't matter. It's not that we never see modern players hit shots like the one at 5:13, but that was a common shot for Kobe. That said, I also wouldn't say that modern players "waste" dribbles. Offenses are far more complicated than they used to be. They're designed to push defenses to the breaking point-setting up an open 3 or easy 2; they're not _supposed_ to be dependent on a last minute adjustment. Even a lot of dribbles that seem "wasted" because the ball-handler is doing nothing are actually serving a purpose, for example stalling while an off-ball screen happens. Regardless, modern players are working with a larger area of the court-you literally can't imagine someone making 2 threes per game and winning a scoring title like Kobe did-and the offensive systems are designed to create space and maximize efficiency.
He didn't want to waste all his energy with all the fancy dribbling they do nowadays. Kobe actually used his energy to play on defense too.

Kobe's midrange and footwork in the midrange is SO satisfying to watch
The reality that he won't be at his own HOF induction just breaks your heart. But it's videos like this that bring a smile to your face knowing how blessed you were to have watched him, whether or not it was either for his whole career or just a portion of it, whether or not you loved him or hated him. Yes his offensive ability to score in difficult situations is unrivaled but I always saw him as a ball hog too. I thnk Magic and Lebron had a more beautiful, well-rounded game.

This shows how Kobe was the most complete/skillful player, he gave even the most elite defenders nightmares because he was relentless and unpredictable. Whether it was going left or right, fade away with his back to the basket, stepback, crossover, pull-up from three... that's not even his full offensive arsenal that he possessed, but (long story short) Kobe was one of the most unguardable and entertaining players this game has ever seen.

As a Kobe fan...I like that people finally appreciate him for the player he was...but it’s bittersweet because he didn’t get much love from the mainstream media while he was alive. He was under appreciated for sure.

Stop it clown. Kobe was NOT inefficient, that is a myth that has been DEBUNKED a thousand times over. Kobe also attempted more difficult threes (he has far more contested 3s than Lebron who only shoots wide open 3s).
The fact is Kobe was efficient in his prime ina league that was more difficult to score in. Period. He also went to 7 finals, more than duncan, and won 5 rings, more than LeHelp.

Curry is the greatest 3 point shooter but he aint the most efficient either. Volume matters. Chris paul is one of the most efficient mid range shooter. theres a difference between influence and emulation...MJ got influenced from the greats before him but he had his own signature style of play totally different from his influences...if anything mj tried to emulate his older brother Larry

I saw from another video that Kobe's fingers had injuries through a number of his high scoring seasons.
If that was true, it just makes him even more badass pulling those moves in that condition.
He won a championship with a hand/finger that needed surgery.
There is no other like Kobe. 2nd only to MJ.
I think he had a broken index finger on his right hand during the finals series with Orlando and taped two fingers together and still shot off it. Definitely the most skilled basketball player I’ve ever seen but also the toughest athlete ever playing through the injuries he had. Seriously superhuman for sure.

I use to watch all of the “Nike Signature Moves” videos and emulate the players game into my own. Kobe’s moves were the only moves you couldn’t really learn and practice without insane athletic ability. All footwork, balance, patience, IQ and skill.

Watching this made me realize how much liberty is given to the offense these days. I don't see as much intensely contested shots anymore.
6:58 look at the head movement in sync with his hesitations and his hands all creating the illusion that he’s about to pull up. Incredible detailed moves that when you see up close and personal as the defender is scary to have to defend against and much harder to react to than just watching as a spectator.
Kobe Bryant is the closest comparison to Michael Jordan.

What do you mean. The basketball world adored Kobe, even when he was alive. Crowds would chant his name in opponents arenas. International fans loved him. More people tuned in to watch his final game vs the Warriors breaking the 96 Bulls regular season record.

Kobes ability to get open on out of bound plays and get a good look with 2-4 players trying to stop him is something I took for granted. When he left the Lakers I felt it watching time and time again how that just doesn't happen. I realize we were spoiled for 20 years.

But we grew up and watched Kobe to get mesmerized by him, jaw dropped from getting triple teamed to getting buckets, his elegant fades, his scoring barrage which could last for days even months, his insane plays and most of all, when he's in middy, most of us would just 🤷 we know it's almost automatic.
I remember Rockets Shane Battier guarded Kobe and put his palm in front of his face but Mamba still drilling those shots sometimes getting fouled by the hand contact in face. My dad and I would just look at each other and shake our heads.
