    This 2nd part video is even better than the first. Julian bores 2 holes in the Captain's head with his eyes while the Captain does everything he can to avoid the line of fire. Hilarious!

    Just some random, and non-guitar related "trivia" on Yamaha. If you look at the grille section of these amps, you might notice that there is a definite pattern. That would be meant to look like the feathers on an arrow shaft. Sometimes referred to also as Hawk feathers. Reason for this is - Yamaha was/is a Samurai family (clan), and that was the family crest (Mon) that would of been on flags and clothing, and whatnot. More or less all your huge Japanese companies are Samurai descendants... Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi... on and on. Anyway - these amps are freaking amazing!

  • @b_antony201

    Would def suggest to anyone thinking of getting one of these: Go play one in person first. Checked one out last night hoping it would best an older PODxt i was using and was pretty disappointed. Most of the review videos of this on UA-cam are close mic-ed, and it doesn't really sound that full or ballsy in person. The pre-sets and effects are pretty limited. For $300+ it seems pretty overpriced for what you get. Just my 2 cents, your mileage might vary...

      I wish I'd read this. I feel the same. It has an amazing lead sound, but I'm afraid the metal rhythm tone is well into the bottom 50% of anything I've tried.

      For the price, especially if someone's on a budget it's not worth getting. If you really really want a Yamaha, then should consider THR5 less features but almost half the price. But I'd still probably get a Marshall or Blackstar amp. They are bigger and heavier but cheaper, you get the sound you want and gets the job done

    • @MyVantasticLifeVoyage
      @MyVantasticLifeVoyage 6 років тому +4

      I totally disagree with you . I own it and it is just as ballsy as this demo suggests . My guess is you were demoing it in a noisy guitar center or similar environment. Besides that you have to keep in mind what it’s designed purpose is. It’s designed to be a portable, personal, practice amp for honing your chops in a simple and convenient manner. For those of you who have tried or own a Blackstar fly personal, practice amp, then it’s that sort of idea times 10. I love mine and although it’s pricey, it’s totally worth it and I don’t see myself getting rid of it. Strongly recommend it.

    Absolutely love my THR10X, Seriously a great little amp for apartments and recording at home. I use my Warwick bass to record as well through it, its great on passive basses but it doesn't seem to like actives much. The amp is just insanely good. I hope they build a bigger model with more amp models, and even a metal one. i'll be all over it. Great job Yamaha, this really is a fantastic product.

    Tons of really impressive playing, for sure, but I have to say that Julian's seemingly-effortless licks on EVH's "Hot For Teacher" were the most enviable. so true, the sounds you hear on youtube have gone though there conversion from the original vid that was uploaded, there your soundcard on your pc/laptop and then your probably crap little speakers on the laptop, to the people that say its crap, go listen to it live before you start saying its crap etc, anything on youtube isn't going to sound as it really does because of what I outlined earlier

  • @JordanWallac3
    @JordanWallac3 10 років тому

    Here's a story I heard.
    The VH1 tone was achieved by getting an old Marshall (1959SLP IIRC) and put a resistor box after the transformer or something along those lines. This resulted in distortion and a lower volume. The Variac was used to further lower the voltage, which resulted in the amp not blowing up instantly.
    Wouldn't recommend this mod though, you will go through transformers and tubes super quickly. The reason Eddie got away with it was because he only needed the amp to survive one show...

    You are correct Lee in its called the "CRASH TEST" but i have 2 other Brown sound stories, first i heard it was called that because in club days people were so close to the stage and with Marshall stacks totally dimed that it was so loud it would have such an effect on people it would make them sick and crap their pants, the other story which i have come to find out is actually the true story and i've heard Eddie say this is when he origannly used the term Brown Sound he wasn't even talking about his guitar tone, he was actually talking about how his brother Alex's snare sounded and he called that the Brown sound

    Orange amp check...fuzz pedal check...distorted tone that destroys the world...check!
    so my main amp and pedals are all fine to get that doom tone that i want...i'm really looking for something small and quiet that i can play at night and while the baby is a sleeping.
    I did have a go of the old 5w versions and played around with the EQ and put it on British hi-gain channel and it came very close to stoner tones...so i think that will be the one for me!

    Kinda cool. Sounds Very muffled like there's a Big Thick pillow over an amp that sounds good.

    THR10X VS HT1 Metal : which you prefer and why ? I'am gonna need one of these two for practice in holidays far from my house. I play mostly metal, nu metal and stuff. I like the tone of the mesa dual rectifier to get you a idea of what i like in tone term.

    Can these THR series of amps be plugged into a power amp and 2x12 FR FR cab?

    • @ianorr8168

      You can use the headphone out jack to connect with powered speakers. Not sure how well that works. I modified all three THRs to power a Yamaha 212 cab. Takes about an hour to modify a THR10 by splitting the speaker wiring to two DPST 1/4” jacks which connect the cab. The sound quality is great and can be extremely loud to whisper quiet. I also use an ABY foot switch to change between THR10 and THR10X for example...so clean to dirty tones using the foot switch. Hope this helps.

    Message to Yamaha:
    Since everything is done by the VCM, instead to release multiple versions of the THR-10, I'd better like you to release one version (even if it's a little bit more expensive) that could be updated to have more than few amps... similar to the Line6 approach.

    here they put mics on the small amp speakers.. can you add an external cabinet ?
    i guess it would be better to add it to a 2x12 for a small gig, or else it just for home recording..

    Line 6 should be very nervous...if they make a more powerful THR with an XLR out and footswitch then Line 6 is done!

      +Mark Wilkinson could you use the headphone from amp using a 3.5mm male to an rca female to the input of a power amp and cab ,I wonder what that would sound like , using the headphone out disables the internal speakers I think

      I think so. Since they have come out with the THD100HD they have solved some of that problem

      I just got it confirmed from Yamaha that you indeed can use the headphone jack as an output to a pa or poweramp , I'm in the market so hopefully someone will do a demo using the hp jack as an out

    I'm living in an apartment and this really appeals for its scale and purpose. But to anyone who owns it. Does it really do modern metal well? Would I be to tweak it to get a truly heavy, tone? Does it sound good with 7 string guitars and 5 string bass's? Get more of a gritty djenty tone?

    Does Yamaha plan on making a "metal" version of this? I love this high gain amp, and i'm getting one next month, but was curious.

  • @JeffBarberDigideus

    To be honest, this sounds a bit modern to me for those sort of tones. Basically, to get a doom tone, put a fuzz pedal and put it in front of a Marshall, Laney or Orange head and revel in a distorted tone that destroys worlds! :)

    Completely right-on!!! LOVE Yamaha but they will suck every penny out of you if you let them. I love my (original) THR-10 but there's no reason to have 3 different amps (not to mention the THR-5's). ALSO, PLEASE come up with a pedalboard version with footswitches to finally put away the Roland and Line 6 junk out of their misery - PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
