    Damn! Her playing is surreal. How original and creative her mind is. Her independence is superb. That opening piece was one of the coolest things I've ever heard.

    So that's what I've been doing for 55 years! This is very different than the usual triplet subdivisions we hear so often.. The potential for development is staggering.. Awesome drummer and teacher and wonderfully humble.. Quite refreshing.

    Also, she can sing. I saw her live in Paris 2 weeks ago. She played and sang over a backing track of only her voice with nice harmonies. It was surreal. She is an amazing artist.

    Camille Bigeault is a genius. I feel like i am barely comprehending these huge ideas. I bet she could explain them even better and more comfortably in French...unfortunately i dont understand French. I appreciate her ability to speak multiple languages, too. Shes amazing.

    Thank you Drumeo for bringing a french drummer up in the place! She is awesome!!! That made me think Maxime Zampieri would have a lot to teach us as a host in your show!

    When I saw the first part, I was like "oh that's cool stuff, she plays really good but I've already seen and played that. Nothing incredible."
    And the come the grooves 4 and 5...
    Especially the 5, it's mindblowing. We can see the huge work behind that

      If you go on her UA-cam page she shows off how she can keep completely different time signatures with all four limbs independently. It's actually a little bizarre LOL

  • @josephmonaco4503
    @josephmonaco4503 3 роки тому +1

    Camille is fantastic. She explains everything very well, but it's a lot more difficult than it looks. It's like a pianist with 6 hands and he is playing 3 different parts of a concerto all by himself.
    That's why what Camille is doing is very difficult. She is also very pretty and I can tell that she is really enjoying herself while she is playing. I'm proud of you Camille... Great Drummer and
    well advanced in drumming.

  • @markyatchak2112
    @markyatchak2112 4 місяці тому

    Wow, now this is truly next level. I wish my mind had the ability to think of how to manipulate time the way her mind does. And even if I one day I could, I can already foreshadow the more difficult part for me would be to get my limbs to immediately fall in sync with displacing time in an instant. This makes me realize just how “basic” keeping something like a 2/4 time signature from the start of a song to the end of the song can be as compared to Camille’s abilities. She’s truly inspiring!

  • @Tristanrgreene11
    @Tristanrgreene11 3 роки тому +1

    I just love your tone and ease at which you play. Great dynamics and seem one step ahead of the next thing you play. It’s not easy to play a big kit.... easy to want to apply and play everything all the time... but she doesn’t and as soon as ya think about the last thing she played she’s already spitting out another tasty fill or groove twisting the downbeat or backbeat. She’s got amazing ease of layers and knows and feels everything she playing. Its one thing to be able to play fast or flashy loud, but to be able to play soft and strangely effortless she’s not just playing illusionary grooves, she even looks like an illusion as she’s playing that much while not looking like she’s really doing that much. Interestingly you think she’s not going to be able to play the way she does as you watch her and her subtle technique...she’s a complete illusion in my favorite way. She’s a magician musician, I can imagine she would wow frank Zappa at one of his mind blowing auditions, with her independence and interesting approach... I’m sure she reads the hell out of some crazy sheet music cus shes got every part of the groove down pat. Ok I’ll shut up now. Thanks for the inspiration and your humble truth in your playing. She knows exactly what she’s doing because she can explain everything she’s doing...in her second language on top of it. Love it.she’s like prog old school and new and plays permutations like garibaldi, great mix.

    Oh man I had no idea there was actually a name for this concept! There’s a song I talk about all the time called Sun Spat by EMEFE. It opens with this really powerful horn part that sounds like it’s slamming downbeat quarter notes, but then the back beat comes in and OOPS NOPE the horn part isn’t straight quarters, it’s the e of 1 and the & of 2. It’s absolutely mind blowing, and listening to the song with that frame of mind becomes trying to resist an optical illusion and it’s such a mind fudge. I aspire to create music that has people dance, but also has moments that are musical tongue twisters like this. Very funky and very cool to hear

    Her out of rhythm grooves are as mathematical as Indian tabla Kayda, thihayees, a very intricate and classical way of playing two rhythm cycles simultaneous (polyrhythmic) and finishing at the same cyclical point. A feat requiring lotta practice which only real masters can achieve.

    Great video! Camille briefly mentions the exploration of these concepts in jazz toward the end of this video. I first became aware of the use of displacement, grouping and, metric modulation listening to Wynton Marsalis' "Standard Time, Vol. 1" w/ Jeff "Tain" Watts on drums. Other drummers in the jazz world that do incredible things with these ideas are Ari Hoenig, Marcus Gilmore, and Chris Dave. Thanks, Drumeo & Camille for the awesome work!

    • @thedarktruth9417
      @thedarktruth9417 5 років тому +12

      In fairness though, there’s a little more going on here, than just knowing how to read sheet music. For sure being able to read music, and then sit down and play that section (or even better; read and play along with a section you’re seeing for the very first time) is not only a great skill to have, but it’s also pretty important (the former more so than the latter). But on top of that, she’s got a pretty solid sense of rhythm and tempo, and an understanding of how to bring the different elements of her kit together without it sounding squeezed or lost. But yeah, certainly reading music doesn’t hurt.
