11:58 don’t lie to yourself man, it makes perfect sense that the arm broke there since it’s the place with the least carbon on the arm, plus it has a joint with metal, which isn’t flexible, meaning it won’t absorb the energy, therefore making the carbon take all of it, what u need is to reinforce that small point and maybe compensate for the weight with a couple holes elsewhere. Great video, and crash tests. Have you looked into carbon foam sandwich for your arms at all? The boltrc kraken worx v3 arms are similar design and were very light. But also strong and ridge. They held up pretty well with 2207 motors at the end if them. With a ligher build and your design skills i really think could be a nice weight reduction and not have to really sacrifice durability. Example I used some of the k6gt 6" arms same foam sandwhich. On a source one frame and saved 12.6g's and these are longer arms. Either way keep up the good work and look forward to following this journey of design.
I remember that! originally tested on heavier 5" and it didn't hold up at all... but on this application... might be worth a shot if frame resonance doesn't rear its ugly head
Lol, I really wanted to get into more detail on all that goes into making a frame, but that could be a video all on its own.... because it does hurt to break one just for the sake of breaking it
Fyi, Aluminum wire is about 1/2 the weight of copper, but it's a whole world of pain to work with. (special crimp terminals or ultrasonic welding are required) Looks like silver wire could save 20% of the wire weight and would still work with standard solder joints. Higher temper insulation on thinner wire might be a better attack, as you can get insulation rated up to 200C pretty easily.
Cutting micros is a pain because that 2mm hardware. Snapping 1.8-2mm burr bits for the small guys. Larger frames that let you get away with a 3mm burr bits are pretty trouble free by comparison. As for dust, that is why I chose the machine I did, all my milling is done under water and runs through a filter to capture my spoil/dust.
Idk if it's practical on the router you are using but I found that it was worthwhile to cut the carbon underwater to deal with the dust. I just used a cookie sheet and put double sided tape under the carbon, just be careful not to cut into the cookie sheet!
That’s strong I brake arms and motor bells almost every time I’m out . Plus the ease of change is really nice when I hit a wall full on only a few minutes to swap one out on location 👍
I think what you have created is less 5" replacement and more of a better explorer lr quad. Some pretty interesting stuff even if a little misguided. 3.5" props, 1806 motors and keeping it dense with a smaller build body is really the answer for what you want. A 5" doesn't fly like a 5" because of the prop size but because of a balance of parameters such as thrust, weight, density and disc loading.
I think that's subjective (a 3.5" on 1806). It sounds like it would be fun. But I'm simply trying to see what can be squeezed out of a 5" lightweight setup, having flown 2.5, 3, and 4" already
@@ummagawdFPV I've built one before, they're a blast for proximity and small area flying and I'll be building another. Also, I found back then that 5050 props tended to "swim" through the air and were actually more efficient than lower pitch props.
I ordered your motors.. but couldn't wait for frame. I lost 2 drones in 2 days 😢 but damn that is light frame and strong.. to be 269g with 6s 450mah. Def under 200g dry. I'm expecting with analog to be at 205 to 220g
Love seeing this come along!

I love all of your frames
All the preparation, planning and work just to shatter it against a wall... kinda like my hopes & dreams. - I like it
Lol, I really wanted to get into more detail on all that goes into making a frame, but that could be a video all on its own.... because it does hurt to break one just for the sake of breaking it
@@ummagawdFPV I know it couldn't of been easy but you sacrificed for science.
i ordered my aerolite already....patiently waiting on this frame!!
thanks for the support!
what fc you use in there?
I still love my Acrobrat...that and my Droner are my favorites
really beautiful Frame and kwad. 😍👍🏻 you gonna hit HomeRun!!!
I really don't get why you have 62.5 k subs only, in my opinion you deserve so much more. Excellent video and nice frame, was this 4 or 5 inch ?
Great videos. Love his video but Think just cause he doesn't post often enough
Thanks man! Yea I can’t seem to tickle the algorithms enough 😜
5”!
@@ummagawdFPV Would like to see it with 4 inch arms as well, it should be even stronger I guess.
looks good, shocked those motors survived so well,
3mm shaft, big oversized bearings = stronger than you think :)
Perfect design man, get it to break on the arms before anything else. Multiple impacts will damage any frame design. Send it!
Loving the frame Tommy! Keep up the good work!
Idk if it's practical on the router you are using but I found that it was worthwhile to cut the carbon underwater to deal with the dust. I just used a cookie sheet and put double sided tape under the carbon, just be careful not to cut into the cookie sheet!
Yup tried it, I it’s been more hassle than it’s worth the few times we’ve done it.
I'm digging the soundtrack, especially that first jam!
That’s strong I brake arms and motor bells almost every time I’m out . Plus the ease of change is really nice when I hit a wall full on only a few minutes to swap one out on location 👍
That was the goal 👍
really enjoy this series 🤘🤘
Well, I am on your same journey. I pre-ordered your frame!
🤙 thank you
grate video tommy . can't wait to get my hands on that quad
Loving this series
Happy new year Tommy!
Happy new year
I ordered your motors.. but couldn't wait for frame. I lost 2 drones in 2 days 😢 but damn that is light frame and strong.. to be 269g with 6s 450mah. Def under 200g dry. I'm expecting with analog to be at 205 to 220g
I’m actually at 186g dry on this specific build. So yea, even lighter if you pick lighter parts
I have the same hat. Looks great on the 3 y/o daughter too
Oh well... We had Schrödinger, the cat torturer... And now Tommy, the frame torturer! 😂😂😂😂😂
Fantastic job, dude!!!
Stay safe there! 🖖😊
