I wanted an R to replace my leased A4. The dealer told me they wouldn't let me test drive an R because it was "special". Over the years, Land Rover, Lexus, Audi, Mercedes, Jeep, and Infinity dealers had no issues with me taking a car. Porsche forced a salesman on me to go in a Macan. VW *literally* said there was no way to get a test drive beforehand. Baffled at the entire "no test drive" concept, I went to leave and they said I could come inside to "run some numbers" on a car they wouldn't let me test drive(?) Needless to say, I was very disinterested in that option and bought an S3 instead. (In 2018, the Audi dealer suggested I drive a convertible S5 "because it's such a nice day out.")
@@TimWilliamsHD thanks mate, appreciate the reply. Looks superb, was hoping it was the standard paint, not the more expensive one 😂 We won’t get the 8.5 until mid-2025 in Australia, but definitely going to get one…. Just have to decide between white and red!
They also said no mk8 gtd....lie...i brought one.... but that's now going as ive placed an order on a brand new golf Gti expected delivery February 2025 ( first time leasing so hopefully im doing the right thing 😬)... And pocket the money from the sale of my gtd and not worry about depreciation anymore
It sucks in the U.S. we can’t “speck” these cars. You either have to buy the S, SE, or Autobahn. I just want the light bar and front logo 😂😂. Hopefully the S has that
100% m135 over this, without question. Better quality interior by a mile, more power that you can use all year round with x-drive. The fact a GTI is the similar price bracket is embarrassing for VW
I love a m135i however when I’ve pushed it on the road and also on the track the understeer is quite noticeable as it’s slightly heavier and cannot rotate as well…the GTI doesn’t have that issue
@@davidmaslen6063 closer to 3k. Golf R is more expensive again than the m135. A spec’d GTI is similar to an m135 and actually if you were to finance it, the BMW would be cheaper. I’ve owned both and my bmw was £100 per month cheaper than the mk8 GTI

@@davidmaslen6063 incorrect, m135 is 43k with no options. That extra £600 you added is the OPTIONAL 19” wheels. ive owned R and GTI and the generic "more fun factor than the R" comment that reviewers always come out with when reviewing the gti i find laughable tbh im sure most who have owned and lived with both will agree 😁

Dude has a very valid theory going on here…this comment is getting pinned 😄
I concur.
Greetings from the USA.
Picked up my 8.5 GTI last week, absolute beast
It’s a real gem of a car 👍
Got mine last Saturday in germany, very happy and fast enough
Perfect timing. I'm considering one of these as a next purchase.
Hope I’ve helped mate 😄
Awesome review man, enjoyed your enthusiasm
Thanks a ton! Loads more coming, please sub if you haven't already. Really appreciate your comment mate!
Nice to meet you on the day Tim and love the quality of your review here. Weather was a tough one to film in too! 👍😊
Thanks! Yours too mate, great to meet you in the flesh also! Weather was a tad tricky 😆
Hi mr Williams thanks for the WSR stand!
Ma man what a nice cam 📷 that have been you used yooh 😮 nice video also pictures it's amazing 👏 👌 thank you Dog🎉
Glad you enjoyed it bro
Nice review, shall i change my faithful Leon FR for one uummmmm? Subbed
Love the MK roads. I lived there a few years ago and driving at night was great fun
It really is! Love MK!

That dealer let down VW, that’s not a thing over here in the UK… 😞
Yes Tim. Thought you’d be at THFC watching the NFL. Vikings v Jets game!
😄 not today! Thanks for watching!
Need a bit more room so looking at the Octavia RS, BUT haven't seen a single review anywhere. Have they released a press car or 2?
Not sure, I’ll see what I can do…
Give this man a Clubsport!
😄 you legend
Great video! Is this the Oryx White or the standard white paint?
Oryx White mate, good spot! Thanks for watching too, have a great week and sub if you haven’t already! Got a few more VW’s coming you might enjoy 😉

You think mk9 will come out before 2028?
I'll take the Club Sport, personally.
Can’t wait to get one in a few weeks! Will see how it drives!

M135 is about £4k more. More comparable with the Golf R.

Can you feel the extra power over the mk8 GTI?
100% yes 20bhp is definitely noticeable 😆
@@TimWilliamsHD 😂🤣
Love to see the clubsport on the channel, for me it has a way better standard interior also does the extra 35ps work in the latest version.😊
Stay tuned, could have one on in a few weeks 👍
What do you mean way better interior GTI & Clubsport have the same interior apart from the pattern on the seats lol.
@JohnGuidetti751 yes the patten ,honeycomb, way better for me personally!
Wouldn't buy a gti , pay bit extra and get the clubsport makes much more sense
Will have one soonish, curious to see how different it is…
@@TimWilliamsHD brill tim 👍 I'm sure visuals and driving will be much better for these than £2k
Top work tim
Great cars for about 20k miles then the interior panels start to creak and rattle like crazy. Poor buildsmanship
They make the GTI an EV, they will destroy the GTI and probably the whole brand!
😄 fingers crossed
Do you really want to spend 50k tho 😏⚠️👋🏽 think about it now in march will be old.
Man VW is going to lose so much money. They're already closing plants.
乁( •_• )ㄏ what do I know. I just have a keyboard
