  • International Superstar Soccer 2000 (officially abbreviated as ISS 2000 and released in Japan as Jikkyo J-League 1999: Perfect Striker 2 for the Nintendo 64 and as World Soccer GB 2000 for the Game Boy Color in Japan) is the second game in the Nintendo 64 Perfect Striker series and the last in Konami's Jikkyo Soccer series of N64 games developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Osaka. For the North American and European release in 2000 the rosters were updated. Introduced in the North American and European versions, it was the first and only game in the series to support the high resolution mode through an expansion pack however it suffered from some performance issues.

    ISS 2000 is my favorite N64 game. I found that the biggest improvement in ISS 2000 was that the ball no longer stuck to the players' feet so "magnetically." When pressing an opponent, the ball could roll freely at times and be won. Also, the ball bounced off players more realistically. The RPG mode was implemented too rudimentarily for my taste.

    the music and career mode alone made this game brilliant.

    What I liked about the game was that the ball could bounce off players or that you could take the ball from opponents without the ball sticking to your foot like a magnet. I didn't want anything more "simulation" than that. I still find the game very playable and it is in fact my favorite soccer game of all time, though of course I fully acknowledge that today's PES and FIFA games are much more accurate representations of the sport.

    So many hours spent on this. The RPG mode was really tough. Think I only made the national team once. Very realistic in many ways and much more personalised than modern career modes. The dating aspects were funny too. Cracking game all in all. ISS2 & 3 on the GameCube were such a letdown meaning this kept my N64 alive for many years before I found PES 3-6 on the PS2. Takes me back to happier days with the N64.

      +Mark Lee This Career Mode has defininitely no equal in modern footies =)
      If you think that you have HUNDREDS of random situations that can suddenly give you new special skills, attributes, skill points, injure your player or something else...well, it's really fun. And in the end you can use your "guy" in the game as reward.
      I still create whole teams through Career Mode...hehe

    The main difference between this and 98 is that there are less exploitable cheat goals. It's much harder to score overall if you don't know the setups. Other main improvements are around aftertouch and general handling.

    not much of a soccer (football) fan but I have always enjoyed the ISS titles. This is the premier soccer game on the N64 in my eyes. had no idea my American cart was deprived of such a neat RPG mode... will definitely give it a look! thanks for the heads up!

    On youre advice i bought the game and im enjoying it. I was lucky to pick up an CIB one in mint condition for a very low price. The game is not rare but not easy to find complete in my opion.
    As a kid i played many hours ISS64. The game is an improvement and i think the best on the console. Keep up the good reviews.
    I LOVE N64 !!!

    ISS series on N64 are the BEST. WHY? 1: Always play with keeper on LEVEL 5; work for your goals! 2: Create own player, you can't copy memory card so UNIQUE TEAMS! 3: Formation and A.I. programmed to set how YOU want and do what YOU want. (not like modern PES & FIFA) You could place attackers at the corner flag if you wanted. You could place defenders next to the keeper and they would STAY.
    4: Skill points for created players are awarded RANDOMLY. So if you had the time.... (it was exciting to build your army, I felt like Saruman lol)
    5: CLICK-CLACK! All you had to do when visiting friends is bring your memory card and your ready. Team, formation, tactics...click-clack. (a bit more awkward on modern "hi-tech" consoles like PS3 &4, Xbox 360 & ONE) The memory cards of the N64 and PS2 were PERFECT.
    5: I'll say it again, if you did not play this with the keeper on level 5....you did not know this game. And overal...the level of control over the team and A.I. made this feel very realistic. We had a lot of home tournaments. (put some money in the jar on the TV)
    I only started liking PES from 2007 & 2008. But after that, Konami ruined PES again to earn money like EA. So ISS 98 and PES 2008 for me I guess. And I regret not having played ISS 2000 as much as I should.

      Sometimes famous footballers get something called a 'super injection'. It's a legal thing that stops newspapers reporting on something.
      When it comes to footballers, it's usually used to stop newspapers reporting about them having affairs and the like.

    For me it has to be International Superstar Soccer 98 on Nintendo 64. That version is still the ultimate soccer game for me. So much fun, such good controls, just so good. Neither ISS64 nor ISS2000 compare to it imo. Is it just me? Or the frame rate is super choppy? I guess it could just be the PAL/NTSC thing.

Konami had a few bad years as well (with pes 2008, 2011 & 2014) but overall they’ve been consistently a lot better than FIFA! I’d seriously swap if you want a superior gaming experience! Go for the pc version and get the patch to sort out licensing issues and you’ll have the best football game ever!

  • @Filsantos86

    The reason the Career Mode wasn't at the US version is probably due to time. Konami wanted the game available at 1999, a year before it was planned to be launched, so the programmers didn't had the time to put the Career Mode at the game, even though the box art and the manual shows it as part of the game. The game has other strange flaws that supports that theory, like the Edit Name mode not working, and the inability to load data from the memory card for the second player. There is also another theory that states the Career Mode was removed due to the game being launched as a blockbuster exclusive only, but I doubt that.

    • @igorbragalha
      @igorbragalha 3 роки тому

      The issue with the memory card for the second player is shared by both versions.

  • @MetalMatt2510
    @MetalMatt2510 3 роки тому

    I never got this. I already had 64 and 98.
    The next ISS I got to play after 98 was ISS 2 on the Gamecube. It wasnt that great playability wise but did look good graphically.

  • @igorbragalha
    @igorbragalha 3 роки тому +2

    Hye Gregg !!!!A few differences I've notice on the both versions. The NA version was released on the hurry of KONAMI, besides the absence of the Career Mode, the game is full with bugs, like if you change the name of the players even with the memory card on, the game wont save the changes. This version is faster but also took easy on the AI matter than the PAL version. The PA version is way harder. But dont be fooled, both versions share horrible and stupid bugs , like in every mode ( beside the tournaments) the game dont seem to recognize the second player memory card so you are not allowed to play with the changes saved by you on the game, I mean the names and customisation on the edit mode. This game is great, I love playing and I think its a shame that KONAMI didnt give to much attention to it and the details.

    At the time when this was out, I'm ashamed to admit I played Fifa 99 (which I'm utterly ashamed of now!). Soon after this I discovered Pro Evo on the PS2 and (with the exception of Pro Evo 2011 and 2014) have been a loyal Konami fan ever since. If I'd given this game a proper try at the time, I'm sure I would have swapped from crappy Fifa a lot sooner!

    I have all three ISS. For the first one, I payed 170 Mark, which is about 86€. Dont know why it was so expensive. Anyway, loved all three ones, had lots of fun, but the time I got ISS2000, I dont know. Still great. like the littel imrpovement here and there, everything fine. But the gameplay started to feel a bit stale for me. Maybe because I played it so much, and mainly against CPU. The defense was a bit too weak, the goalie, at least on higher difficulty, was too strong. Made mostly the same scoring situations, which get a bit boring. Its basically impossible to score from a distant shot or even a shot in the box with the goalie infront, without him blocking. You have to score the rebound then. Fifa was better in that regard imo.
    There was an option that you play the goalie yourself, which is a great idea for advanced people in multiplayer.
    But man, I missed out on that RPG mode. I think I have to check it out again. Its very strange though if you choose to be a Goalkeeper there.
