I wouldn't say that. A turbo charger or challenger means more tunability. It costs big money to tune a 5.7 NA. We're talking heads, cam, and forged internals. 💵💵💵. Out of the box they probably would be faster than their predecessors all while getting better fuel economy. I say it's about time for some turbo charging.
@@Turshin I'll say I'm intrigued at the possibility but There's something about the soul of a V8 that a turbo 6 simply can't replicate. Yeah, tuning the Hemis is 'expensive' but who has that really stopped.
The 3.6 Pentastar can only go so far. it doesn't seem to respond to bolt-ons like the Hemis, and boosted I've heard of the rare case of getting 500hp to all 4 in the GC (best conditions though I suspect it was one of the earlier iterations) Solid engine for sure but certainly not a Phoenix unless we're talking in relation to surrounding external circumstances at best. This straight 6 has got me curious though. Want to see what they've got.
Speaking of going old school, Chrysler could theoretically survive on 2 engines, a 2.0L four and a 3.0L 6 as long as they keep the Hemi for trucks and muscle cars.
Thanks, Andrew. First, I say thank God for my redeye. And believe it or not, I have a pentastar logo on my Demon/redeye engine block. And I remember the 80's with turbo 4 cylinder engines and 400 hp seemed like only a dream. The GDI (gas direct injection) is a bad idea. It increases fouling behind the valves and shortens the engine life. Thankfully FCA hasn't stepped in that one.

Take notice FCA, Don't replace the V8 hemi with a turbo 6, people won't like it.
I’d prefer to have a straight six if the choice is between the v6 and in-line 6. Chrysler had some bulletproof in-line 6s like slant six in the past, they just hamstrung them on purpose. I’m sure 3.6 twin turbo in-line 6 will be great
There should still be a V8 option like Ford is doing. You can get a F150 with many different engines and if you want reliability and simplicity for the most part the 5.0 is still available. It's fine if they want to offer different motors but keep a diverse lineup. Sometimes these newer motors are so high strung and over engineered that whatever fuel economy gains you get you end up throwing that money towards repairs in the long run so it's pretty much a net zero.
I wish they could just leave it like it is. The 3.6 and 5.7 are In cars that are actually somewhat affordable. They have proven themselves to be reliable and both fill their intended roles well. SRTs, Scat Packs and Hellcats are low volume, high end models that are geared toward enthusiast with deep pockets who could care less about insurance premiums or high monthly car payments. A turbo v6 doesn't make sense, more stuff to go wrong would probably be cheaper to own a V8 after the warranty expires , a straight six is an extremely long engine and will only fit in a limited amount of vehicles. Just fire the bean counters and keep on keeping on !!!
I currently have a v6 challenger. I'm working on saving enough money for a ripp supercharger. After 3 or 5 more years I will trade or sell and get a scat pack challenger.
I'm a Hemi lover but after watching this great video and seeing that they probably might killed the Hemi I decided to ride my grandmother's bike to work
I don't know where everyone's been getting this mis information about the hemi going away. I've been hearing that since 2006 rt after they dropped them into cars. Calm down they aren't going anywhere for awhile. Chrysler is working on one rt now that is bigger than all the current ones. The engine will be in the trucks first at 550hp then cars following with 600hp naturally aspirated. They are currently also working on a vehicle that will be able to turn mid to high 8s in the quarter. So people need to quit speculating on the end of the hemi. Even if it were true and the left the line up tomorrow, Just be happy the big three restarted the horsepower /muscle car wars. We live in a great time for car guys and gals.
The 3.6 pentastar is by far my most beloved v6 platform, the v6 Camaro sounds nice but isn't nearly as smooth or fuel efficient, and Ford's v6 is a joke. I'm okay with the hemi no longer being made, it turns all the American v8 cars of the last 20 years back into american muscle cars that will be classic in another 20 years, but as far as modern engine and fuel economy demands go there is nothing wrong with turbo charged v6 engines.
Chrysler screwed up on the 3.6 which because of the open deck weakness will never be a high HP engine . Not to mention the cast in head exhaust manifolds.
I really suggest a supercharge and a turbocharge combo, boost is made from beginning to end of power band. Playing with turbo lag compared to the hemi, off the line its kinda garbage unless it make serious boost to compensate. That compensation will destroy the standard street tire. Oil cooler location could be changed, (wish it would be) the valley underneath the intake manifold makes it tedious and somewhat difficult to change gaskets for the cooler or just replacement. With the mentioned intake manifold will need to be stronger (ditch the plastic) to compensate the additional boost delivery even if its just 12psi there about. i can definitely write a light novel about my wants but the 3.6L has not failed me yet, i just have a suspicion that it may not be liable to take any additional power without changing a few things up, namely getting rid of some plastics. Don't mind a debate let me know what ya think.
Tbh the Pentastar V6 is a very nice motor. But I'm more a fan of the I6 because of the simplicity of its design and its inherently smooth operation. The 5.7 V8 should absolutely not be axed but, for something completely different, I have an idea: FCA makes, say, a Mild-Hybrid 3.5 turbocharged I6, then hands it over to SRT to tune it to about 600-650hp and we have an awesome I6 Challenger SRT-6, as a spiritual successor to the Pontiac GNX (yes, the GNX is a V6, but the point here is 6-cylinder firepower in general)!
if they make a inline 6 engine, they need to take all six pistons from the pentastar engine and line it all up to make a inline 6 out out the pentastar engine with the same 3.6 liter but in inline 6 configureation.
That "Multi-Air" engine is a FIAT engine. TRANSLATION: A PIECE of *JUNK!!* If this upcoming I-6 is based on THAT engine, It will just be a BIGGER piece of JUNK !!
The rumor has and always will be the return of the barracuda with a forced air V6 on some “smaller platform” as long as that small platform isn’t the dodge neon, I mean the dart then it would probs still be a hit.
I'd hate to see all of the V8's go. The Challenger 6.4 392 is the only true naturally aspirated muscle car remaining. The 5.7 Charger AWD police package I am a big fan of and love listening to and watching those things fly! The Hellcat engine is the meanest Detroit V8 since the original muscle car era. The Challenger has had steady sales figures since it was reintroduced and beat the Camaro in sales last year. The 5.7 in a Ram 1500 makes it better than Ford and GM. If Mopar was to concentrate more on a turbocharged V6, I'd say continue production of the V8's but in smaller numbers to save money. I'd be so concerned for Dodge and other Chrysler brands if the V8's are dropped, causing issues for FCA.
They been working on turbos with the pentas long ago. It’s not a new thing. The official numbers were never released. The 5.7 will be around for a while still with modest improvements. There will be finally a bump in hp also. This is info from ppl I know who work at the proving ground at FCA in Auburn Hill Michigan.
No replacement for displacement. Naturally aspirated all the way. It will be a sad day when the 5.7, 6.2 and 6.4 are gone. You might get a i6 or a v6 to produce V8 power numbers but they will NEVER sound the same as a V8. :/ 4 cylinder variants? Hell no! Get that crap out of here!
I have both the 5.7 and the 3.6 ... I like the mileage and economy of the 3.6 , and it may be low on torque, but it pulls great near the top end... reading the comments about the exhaust sounds .... the 3.6 no matter what you put on or how much you pay , still sounds like a 6... period....
Agreed. The way I see it is that in a few years the lineup will look like: Base - 2.4 turbo Next up - inline 6 Higher end - 6.4L V8 or 426 Top - Hellcat engine
Talked about some of that when I made a video about the Durango hellcat a few weeks ago, Durango is probably coming back but the next gen will be different, body on frame so more truck like as opposed to now
Brian R is sarcasm, you know. I’m pretty sure they can improve the 5.7 mileage from 16/25 to 18/28. That will make it efficient for that displacement and power.
@@josemanuelruiz2036 I was commenting on making a 6 sound like the 392, ain't gonna happen. But why dick around with the 5.7 when the 6.2 and 6.4 are far superior engines?

Pretty sure the I6 is meant for Alfa Romeos and Maseratis. Unless its the engine in the new grand cherokee that's already been caught testing then the engine is going to be Euro only. It wasn't in the 2019 ram either, which it would have been had it actually been meant for Dodge, Ram and Jeep.
I just got a 2016 300 as my first big purchase and I’m in love with it, I’d hate to see them go to 2.4 liter. the 3.6 is great I’d like to see them do more with that and bring in the srt8s. Dodge will fuck themselves if they do this I just don’t see the upside tbh.

I don't have anything against the 5.7 I just won't buy anymore. After driving the 6.2 and trading it in for the Camaro SS I don't personally see the point in going down to 5.7 again. Additionally it can't compete with V8 Camaro or mustangs, it does compare to the 6 banger versions of both vehicles. I'm sure it's a viable option for someone else just not me.

Been waiting on the tornado !!!!!! Thank you for the news, I have the 4.0L and I couldn’t love it more , the in-line setup up is built to take a beating !
I want to see a compact challenger-esque car to replace the Dart with a small displacement boosted engine to take on cars like the mustang, Camaro and 370z type of cars.
Please don't kill off hemi V8's I drive a 5.7 hemi challenger and dam proud of it
A V6 is for minivans and entry level motors! V8 is the real deal.
The turbo four cylinder Mustang and Camaros will beat almost every V8 car made in the 20th century with the sole exception of highly modified cars or expensive and low production run cars like the ZR-1, the Hemi Cuda, and GT350.
Heck... a new Dodge Caravan will embarrass a 1968 Camaro with a 327 at a stop light. ;)
@@Bartonovich52 It does not matter, a V8 always sounds better and you dont need to floor it every time they have low end torque. And a fourbanger with a turbo is not going to last that long.
Got a Pentastar 3.6 in my MY17 wrangler unlimited. Great engine. Strong, powerful and smooth.
Screw the downsizing... America should keep the legends alive and innovate in V8 engines not kill them off for biturbo V6s.
Why? 6 cylinder turbos are vastly superior
Vladimir VojtaML Vlad wake up guy ... Hemis will be gone with in the next five to seven years. This is a fact.
@@Vault13CanteenFNV only if it is an inline 6, v6 are never superior
LONG LIVE THE HEMI!! Hey FCA, how about a brand spanking new Slant Six? Say with 2.7 LT, DOHC VVT, Twin Turbo, E-85 compliant?
I feel like getting rid of any of the V8's would be problematic right now. FCA has truly one of the best engine line ups available. You got your decent V6, small and big V8, and supercharged V8. And a few 4 cylinders here and there. They shouldn't mess with them, not yet just keep. Improvement going on especially for the 5.7 and 3.6
Been waiting for the pentastar v6 turbo for years but an inline 6 turbo would be a cool option, like a modern day slant six!
All regular people car about when it comes to buying a new car is:
Tech
Comfort
Space
And fuel economy
Thats why manufacturers focus on that stuff, since a vast majority of the consumer is a bunch of people who see a car as an appliance.
PENTASTAR-PENTA= 5 Chrysler Corp. Divisions: It WOULD HAVE stood for: 1) PLYMOUTH 2) DODGE, 3) DeSOTO, 4) CHRYSLER, and 5) IMPERIAL. However by the time the PentaStar logo appeared, DE SOTO was discontinued...so, it THEN stood for: 1) PLYMOUTH 2) DODGE, 3) DODGE TRUCKS, 4) CHRYSLER, and 5) IMPERIAL.
If anything, get rid of the 6.4 and just Supercharges the 5.7 hemi!
not with the lifter spindles going out destroying the came shaft, thats why the 5.7 might get replaced
@@SkyRecruit18 don't forget that the hemi is known for valve seats crack dropping the valve in the cylinder destroying the engine. I just wish Chrysler would make a better pcm as most Chrysler's are plagued with pcm failures. I'm a mechanic so my views might be different than most. But it's not a muscle car without a v8.
Chris Atkinson I’m in the market for a 2015 to 2018 charger rt with the 5.7 so it not worth it? I want one so bad 😭
YES do this FCA and leave the Alfas out in the cold they are junk!
@@repnatl is there a way of fixing that issue? I plan on modifying my 2018 5.7 in ther future, but what work can I do when the time comes to bullet proof my engine?
I won't be building a 1000+ hp engine either.
I miss the Pentastar logo, I loved seeing it in the car.
Lets hope they don’t get rid of the 5.7. Just means they will charge more for performance parts and replacement engines.
I don't think anyone buying a V8 is worried about gas
Yeah they mostly worry about keeping up with tuned 6 bangers with fat turbos lmao
I'm on board fkr a straight 6 as long as there is still a hemi v8 available. Gotta love a straight 6.
I agree
That’s tough bro something is going on with Dodge man trying to cheap out well
Yeah seems like most companies are going this route, hoping FCA at least keeps some Hemis around
Hopefully the Hemi engine is a nice powerful engine if they take it out it’s like cancelling the production of the Challenger or a Charger
@@MaddJakd 👍🏻
The 3.6 Pentastar can only go so far. it doesn't seem to respond to bolt-ons like the Hemis, and boosted I've heard of the rare case of getting 500hp to all 4 in the GC (best conditions though I suspect it was one of the earlier iterations)
Solid engine for sure but certainly not a Phoenix unless we're talking in relation to surrounding external circumstances at best. This straight 6 has got me curious though. Want to see what they've got.
Should be interesting in a few years to see how accurate these predictions are.
How do you fit a straight 6 sideways in a front wheel drive car?
Speaking of going old school, Chrysler could theoretically survive on 2 engines, a 2.0L four and a 3.0L 6 as long as they keep the Hemi for trucks and muscle cars.
This new Pentastar 3.6 is not your father's V-6. I've got one in my 19 Wrangler and it kicks ass and still gets 25 mpg on the highway.
The pentastar is good on paper, but an inline 6 turbo for the jeep would be amazing
The Twin Turbo Straight six all the way hate those V6's and as an Ultimate Option a Twin Turbo V8
Nah, single turbo inline 6. Twin turbos don't sound as good
They should just rework the slant six into a sohc and give it all adjustment cam. Better yet they should work with freevalve on it.
Pay the international displacement tax! Don,t ruin a good thing that works and works well, Yeah HEMI V8! My next car is going to be a 5.7Litre HEMI Charger. I have a Charger now with the Pentastar and it runs nicely but the HEMI has the sound and extra performance I want.
This will be the death of Dodge and it will surely go out of business the 5.7 and bigger Hemi is this the only engine they have that will last over a 100,000 miles within no problem.note I am a chevrolet man but I would take a Hemi over a junk ford or some foreign-made dual overhead cam junk engine
+AI3xZJE41 YT can’t beat a single cam 2 valve pushrod v8!
5.7 needs to be left in the trucks and suv and stop being pushed as a performance platform, a turbo straight 6 has amazing potential and id love to have one
How about a slant 6 with fuel injection, VVT and electronic ignition optional turbo(s).
Dam I can’t imagine how much Business will go down with out the hemi’s
Hopefully they keep a couple in the lineup, if not the 5.7 then the 6.4 or 6.2
Most of their sales are v6, guarantee muscle cars would die without the v6 option because all the money comes from them. Nobody wants v8s anymore (which is crazy(
@@billyray4716 Also feeds C.A.F.E. to allow for the V8s
@@billyray4716 Nobody wants V8's anymore? I must be nobody then, because I just bought a Camaro SS in February, and am loving my 455hp of V8 Detroit muscle, and with 6 speed manual to boot
They will gain my buy with an I6 turbo
I watched a video where they polled 17 Ford service techs and sales/parts people about which truck engine they would personally choose. These are people who have knowledge about turbo 6cyl engines. 5.0l V8 scored 14, 3.5l twin turbo scored 3. Take notice FCA, Don't replace the V8 hemi with a turbo 6, people won't like it.
I'm all for the Turbo I-6 and smaller Turbo I-4.🤘
The closest Chrysler dealership to my house still has the pentastar logo on it sign.
I’d prefer to have a straight six if the choice is between the v6 and in-line 6. Chrysler had some bulletproof in-line 6s like slant six in the past, they just hamstrung them on purpose. I’m sure 3.6 twin turbo in-line 6 will be great
V8 will stay because of Ram Trucks
Yes!
Chances are the 6.4 from the 2500 will be brought down considering it's better on gas
You said it'll be the first straight six since the 4.0 liter V6. LOL
Heard that too...
Very informative thanks!
thanks for watching!
Bitemyshinny Metalass skip the supercharger and just get the hemi
Skip boosting the car and save for the scat pack.
I'm a Hemi lover but after watching this great video and seeing that they probably might killed the Hemi I decided to ride my grandmother's bike to work
Maybe they're getting sick of having to replace them under warranty after the camshafts grind themselves flat
#savethe57hemi
A inline 6 with a turbo? Hmm?... I see lots of realiability and easy power gains.
Wish I got a 3.6 gt when my mopar 11 had gotten sold instead of my 2.4 latitude cherokee
Very useful information once again thank you!
I drive an sxt, dropping the 5.7 would be criminal, these cars are supposed to have v8s
right.
Do toyota/lexus next, I'd like to see the 2jz, 2grfse, and the 1uz.
if they make a inline 6 engine, they need to take all six pistons from the pentastar engine and line it all up to make a inline 6 out out the pentastar engine with the same 3.6 liter but in inline 6 configureation.
So the 3.6 pentastar doesn't have direct injection?
That "Multi-Air" engine is a FIAT engine. TRANSLATION: A PIECE of *JUNK!!*
If this upcoming I-6 is based on THAT engine, It will just be a BIGGER piece of JUNK !!
Chrysler still uses the pentastar in all of their v6's just look at 03:34 and you will see it if you look close enough.
With stellar reliability I'm sure.
Death of the mopar v8s is the death of Chrysler as a company know one wants v6s! TURBO OR NOT.
A unique camouflaged jeep gladiator was seen in testing. Rumor is it will have a straight 6.
I used to work for Chrysler. Honestly I'd rather swap cams in a 3.6 than a hemi!
Solid little motor
They need to make an L6 Ecodiesel
I have both the 5.7 and the 3.6 ... I like the mileage and economy of the 3.6 , and it may be low on torque, but it pulls great near the top end... reading the comments about the exhaust sounds .... the 3.6 no matter what you put on or how much you pay , still sounds like a 6... period....
I like the inline and I'm ok with no more 5.7s but if not more hemis I hate it
Agreed. The way I see it is that in a few years the lineup will look like:
Base - 2.4 turbo
Next up - inline 6
Higher end - 6.4L V8 or 426
Top - Hellcat engine
People thought the 300 was fakin! If this was real, anyone that got one would be laughed into non-existence!
0:52 - that lady seemed really happy about being on camera.
So there is no info about the Durangos going forward
Talked about some of that when I made a video about the Durango hellcat a few weeks ago, Durango is probably coming back but the next gen will be different, body on frame so more truck like as opposed to now
Can you do one about the new 2020 dodge dakota I hear it was going to have a v6 with a 8 speed automatic transmission. Thank you.
They renamed it 2020 Jeep Gladiator... they've sold about 8000 so far.
The Pentastar is one of the most iconic images in automotive history.
Thanks very informative
No dont go direct injection then we would need to do walnut blasting/carbon cleaning like BMW,VW,Audi, etc those service run about 1k at the dealer
Anyone with a brain knew the hemi wasnt/isnt going anywere for awhile. I hope the come out with a turbo straight 6
If they can make the 3.0 V6 twin turbo sound like a 392 I’ll buy it.
@ Jose, yeah right. That will happen when Nancy Pelosi becomes a Playboy Bunny.
Never happen. Firing order in a 6 produces a destinct note, no matter what you do to it, will sound terrible. A fluttery v6 sounds trash, a smooth inline 6 is the way to go. Still wont sound like a v8, but will sound amazing nonetheless
I heard on in our local police car today. Definately boosted
I will not buy a challenger or charger if they get rude of the hemis #savethev8
Dammit man, FCA sure loves a good rumor. Whatever happened to v8ing the pentastar?
I just got a 2016 300 as my first big purchase and I’m in love with it, I’d hate to see them go to 2.4 liter. the 3.6 is great I’d like to see them do more with that and bring in the srt8s. Dodge will fuck themselves if they do this I just don’t see the upside tbh.
I6 to replace the Pentastar would be really cool
I've been talking about FCA gettin onboard with others like"Ford Ecoboost"for a while now,I'm sure they can muster up something suprising to surpass hp gains and torque.Bring on the Turbos,And yes a Boosted 6 will NEVER EVER COMPETE with a Natural Asp V8
Why not a Hemi v6: ?
Back in the day Chrysler Australia made an inline 6 Hemi. Heck, some of the K cars had Mitsubishi built 4 cylinder hemis!.
5.7 Hemi supercharged will kill the twin turbo 6!
How about turbo charge the 5.7L Hemi or supercharge it and have it available for a wider body Dodge Dart scat pack?!!
