i just got some wes audio gear. im using 2 phoebe preamps into a dione on my 2 bus. and i can use the preamps when i track. yes it is pricey....but the digital recall is revolutionary for quality outboard gear and i ahve to say. if i would have went more budget id be saying i need to upgrade later but not with these units !!! thanks for the review and the great content
Thank you for leveling matching. Too many content creators miss this important stage and just boost volume making it hard to hear what the hardware is actually doing.
At our studio, i print a one cycle square wave blip on all hardware channels before the song starts, and then i line it up with the digital file, There is usually about a 50/50 chance the analog prints will not line up automatically.
Hey Christian, thanks for the review. Since you have both the mimas and the timbre, how they compare to each other? i guess they're supposed to sound the same considering wes using same components, but maybe more headroom on betA?
Hey! I only demo'ed the units but the Mimas is a FET-1176 style compressor while the Timbre is a classic VariMu tube compressor. Quite different designs and sound. The closes to Timbre is WA _Rhea comp if you're looking at the 500 format. I hope that clear things up 😊👍
I think the lesson here is it IS worth it but maybe not to much hardware. The ssl bus com, the ssl eq, the 1176, but do u really need the la2a or the pultec eq? Not really. Pultec u generally don't do much eqing with and la2a is usually used in parallel with the 1176 or in other specific places like acoustic guitar.
Yeah, i agree but I do think there is a sweet spot. Probably like 4-10ch is more then enough. For vocals and for buss duties. It is very nice and makes you reach the end point faster. Allot of fun 😁✌️
@@piotr803 it depends honestly I wouldn't get an ssl eq because u could do subtractive eq with a plugin emulation as for boosting I would prefer an eq with more character and recallability. API 550B would be perfect. But if u realy want ssl EQ I would get the WesAudio Hyperion. Its stero mono and recallable. Expensive though.
To be able to control the HW digitally is the biggest advantage. Otherwise there are plenty of options on the market. I really enjoyed all the modules though when I demo'ed them 👌

The first vocal example you have completely different attack times on both CLA76 and Mimas? How is that a comparison? It should all be about texture and feel. Some 1176 compressors are great at smashing transients others let a bit through etc. it’s an artistic decision not a flaw 🤷♂️

Nope, I haven't tried any Bettermaker products I'm afraid!

You can use another chassi but then you need to hook up every module seperateley

Which ssl eq though? 611 or ultraviolet for example?

The Waves plugins are modelled after the originals so fastest is 10 and slowest 1.
