That anode wear might be stray current from the boat. I'd change those out (suoer eawsy on the hard of course), give yourselves another 6 months stress-free. If those anodes wear away much more, you'll start eating props.
Re. Turkish breakfast. Looks gorgeous, I was introduced to çilbir recently and could hapilly have that for breakfast everyday given the chance. (Poached eggs on a bed of warmed thick yoghurt with minced garlic, covered in a sauce of browned butter/olive oil with chili flakes/paprika)
I just realized that the big thing that looks like an ice chest that is stowed neatly in the stern is your life raft. It looks like it is very sturdy and a well thought out placement by the builder.
They talk a lot about life raft placement in their catamaran tours and reviews from a few years ago. I believe this was an option they specd from seawind. Their standard location is somewhere else…
Nick, your mainsheet top block, needs to be same sheave width, but much larger diameter, to accommodate a Becket, underneath, that the sheet can terminate to, instead of the boom itself. Best wishes from Northern Canada.
Cool episode! Wow, now that's what I call breakfast! I hope all of the shipping issues work out. You waited so long for delivery of your boat, now it's time to enjoy it! Thanks for taking me along again!😊😊
Visited Turkey many times, always considered it a very rich country given the quality of the food in markets and restaurants. Also some remarkable nature.
Ha, I was just typing about the rust again when you started to mention the follow up rust info, grinding dust is a vicious beast that is for sure. Have you considered stray current being the cause of the anodes disappearing so fast. I would say check your engine ones for sure. Sailing Wynns found that one out the hard way.
the engines themselves do not have an anode. The anodes on the sail drive (which is bolted to the engine and its components subjected to salt water) are the anodes which protect the engine. There are 2 of them on each engine/saildrive. A cone on the propp and a collar on the sail drive forward of the prop. The wynns might have different situation since they have some strange engine/electric hybrid
@@krionic Stray current is a big issue no matter what, it can come from alternators, battery systems, solar panels, electrical connections, etc, etc. The Wynns problem was not a result of their electric hybrid systems, it was an overlooked design fault. I work on a a lot of carbon fiber toys and it is a very real issue no matter what type of toy. I will summarize my views on the engine anodes in relation to your comment above. --> Hey Nick, you should check the anodes on your engines! 🤣
The viewer who commented on the actual cause of the rust specks is quite right. This is exactly what I would expect to see if someone was grinding, steel/SS, and the flecks, the sparks, they burn themselves into the paint. This is not because of the boat being painted when it was dusty in the yard. It is hot spatter from a grinder. Good luck!
Marinas are well known sources of stray current, from shore power and/or other boats. So much so, many warn people not to swim in them, there have been drownings. As for that chafing, what about a short length of small diameter fire hose around the line? Might last longer than tape.
For the zinc rapid erosion, look at getting a galvanic isolator to separate the ground from the marina from the rest of the boat, or an isolation transformer to completely separate the connections. The galvanic isolator will be a lot cheaper and easier.
Regarding the mainsheet: The routing is wrong. You need the dead end of the sheet to go to a becket on the upper block. Trying to run it past the block to the boom forces it to cross itself. The same is true of the run up to the forward block on the boom; the last upward run should exit the lower block on the forward side so it doesn’t cross the rest of the lines. Was that line removed by the shipping company?
Glad you're now de-rustified. Now that breakfast rivals my well known, "Greasy Eggs, " breakfast which is very English but includes lots of Prosecco and Bloody Caesars and you''ll appreciate it, Marmite, not that Vegamite. for Wuzzie Aussies...LOL! So nice to see you both smiling again. Un abbraccio forte a due!
WOW that breakfast looks so ....... lolol The 2 of you really make my week every week!!!! Im 51 broak but one day just one day!!!!!!! Nico from South Africa Saldanha Bay !
Hey Guys, you are preaching to the converted here, yes Turkiye is fantastic ! With regards to the anodes on the sail drives, do you have an isolation transformer? If so your marina shore power will have no effect with regards to electrolysis and degradation of your anodes and ultimately your sail drive. Cheers Bryan & Denise willow II
I have been looking into prop paint but I'm somewhat hesitant because many of these require sanding the prop with around grain 40 before applying the primer which feels so aggressive to me
I saw another boat that was shipped and they shrink wrapped the entire boat with a white plastic wrap, would you do something like if you ever shipped a boat again?
Has RR2 got an isolation transformer or galvanic isolator on the shore power input to the boat. If not that will be the reason the anodes are wasting away so quickly.
Good luck with the sub stack and paid subscription stuff. That is very ambitious. Please let us know on this free UA-cam channel how that endeavor goes.
@@LuxPerp it's not snark. When you build a following of loyal viewers and then tell them they can find out what happens, but only if they pay. Bit disrespectful.
I guess the lesson is to never ship a boat unwrapped?...and I guess you need to make sure boat gets wrapped before anyone can damage it. The downside to wrapping is damage won't show always until wrap gets taken off but it will keep it protected from non-structural damage from grinding, sand, etc.
I think the only thing I wouldn’t like about that breakfast is the olives. I’ve always found the taste and texture of an olive to be really gross. Everything else looked amazing.
Erosion of your anodes is most likely as a result of cathodic delamination…..there’s a “stray current” between two dissimilar metals somewhere on the boat. Seek and you will find - then fix!
So very sorry you had to go through all of this. Do either of you think that it is beneficial to have your first boat be a monohull to learn better seamanship?
WOW…. Are you sure that’s not an exhaust deposit? ….wonder if it has anything to do with the new catalytic converters, since cargo ships burn the nastiest fuels on Earth, and just the last couple years are they regulated….
I wouldn't have a clue what to do with most of those Turkish dishes. Give me five strips of crispy bacon and my breakfast is great. Not much else to watch on this one. Half of the episode was Terysa talking.
Turkey is a fine country but be very careful if you're a woman. My wife went there in college with four girlfriends and all but one of them were molested in some way or another during their 1.5 month stay. I know it's antidotal evidence but my wife is very conservative as are her friends so they definitely weren't acting loose inviting negative attention. Stay safe!
Pretty sad all the Money you put in this Catamaran and see the Cheap steel rusting and is that was Stainless steel very BAD quality in that Stainless to me that not Stainless steel. Well hope you sail back Home someday
My dad visited Turkey when he retired, and he absolutely fell in love with the culture and history there, he said it was the trip of his life.

Turkish breakfast is amazing, enjoy!
Wow - that breakfast!
previously a Gemini 105 with centre boards owner. So different dynamics at anchor however we always used a bridal linked to bow cleats.

That truly looked like the most amazing breakfast ever. How I wish I were able to visit Turkey and try it.

Spray can silicone works real good to stop rust on stainless steel

The Whynns had a similar problem with their new boat.. might be worth comparing notes. Part of their problem was carbon fiber conducting ..
The breakfast of champions !
Not FOMO, just straight up envy.
If you had to Greece, Paros and anti Paros is a must visit. Especially Naousa on Paros. Must try food is Sagonaki, a fried cheese! Omg it's amazing.
A delicious episode!
Glad RR2 is no longer a rusty bucket.😊

Breakfast like that in California would cost many time as much but would get coffee.
I'm looking at my Weetabix and feeling very deprived at the moment.😂
Prop Glide comes highly recommended.

How about a Turkish Delight?
Won’t the “harsh” chemicals used to remove the rust along with all the hard rubbing effect the longevity of your paint?
Sorry. I posted this before finishing this episode!

Can to say this
Just a thought from a wantabe sailor, why not use "deflatable" tubes or fenders? They are so large and use up alot of space, maybe you do?
Only special stainless steel such as 316L is saltwater resistent. Great videos, boat and sailors.

Who would have known that you should have wrapped the cat before shipping 😢

I was thinking about wrapping…
For me, the big question is, would you ship you boat again? If yes, would you use the same company?
there's nothing posted in the substack....
I could do with one of those breakfasts
I think the only thing I wouldn’t like about that breakfast is the olives. I’ve always found the taste and texture of an olive to be really gross. Everything else looked amazing.
I do indeed have the most massive food envy.

I think that they should use bigger tables.
Do you stop sailing during the winter months?
You don't run a bridal on that anchor chain?
So very sorry you had to go through all of this. Do either of you think that it is beneficial to have your first boat be a monohull to learn better seamanship?
Geez hauling out already what a shame good luck
Gotta pay for the boat I guess with this paid subscription stuff
It all looks so familiar! Oh wait, WE WERE THERE! ❤🎉😂
Dam makes my toast and coffee look boring enjoy.
😮all that food for $9-$10? That's a bargain ❤
Can your get doggie bags?
Folks unless you changed the anodes, you want to go ahead and order new stern drives.
WOW…. Are you sure that’s not an exhaust deposit? ….wonder if it has anything to do with the new catalytic converters, since cargo ships burn the nastiest fuels on Earth, and just the last couple years are they regulated….
Did Nick cut his own hair again? Is that the problem in the thumbnail?
As I eat my one egg white on one half English muffin… 😔
So many issues on a new boat..
I wouldn't have a clue what to do with most of those Turkish dishes. Give me five strips of crispy bacon and my breakfast is great. Not much else to watch on this one. Half of the episode was Terysa talking.
sorry I would prefer the full Irish breakfast anyday

Slime line?
Term for a line that stays in the water to secure the bow to when “Med moored “
It keeps the boat’s stern from hitting the dock.
🙏🙏🙏🤛👍🦅😎🇺🇸

Pretty sad all the Money you put in this Catamaran and see the Cheap steel rusting and is that was Stainless steel very BAD quality in that Stainless to me that not Stainless steel. Well hope you sail back Home someday
Inferior hardware. Boats and RVs build crappier and crappier.
the teenage children comment really shows you what type of person he is
Somebody needs to open a Waffle House in Turkey asap
Bye Bye.🤷♂️
Moral of the story....don't allow idiots to ship your boat again. Enjoy your breakfast. Had enough. Just Unsubscribed. Good luck on your travels.
Such an unnecessary rude comment.
Wow this bro gets real mad about other people's lives! Probably good he unsubscribed
