  • Searching for Bob "Ninja" Poras on Google won't yield much, but you might be lucky enough to find one image. Bob spent decades in the shadows with the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D), also known as Delta Force, Combat Applications Group (CAG), and the CIA. He had a 36-year career as a Federal Government Supervisory Special Agent, U.S. Army Infantryman, and Special Forces Soldier, specializing in combat operations, personnel protection, supervising/leading special mission teams, firearms training, military/paramilitary training, and coaching. Recently, Bob has started a tactics company, teaching a variety of training based on his real-world experiences at the highest level. He emphasizes the importance of mindset, something we often forget. After a life at war, Bob has had to confront the many invisible wounds that are deep within him. We don't always realize the toll it has taken on us until we hang it up, and then we become aware of the damage and everything creeps back in. These wounds are not visible, but they can be felt in conversations, dreams, nightmares, chronic headaches, tendinitis, and other internal injuries that cannot be described. They also carry the loss of their brothers and sisters and try to make sense of the common question: why? Bob reflects on Operation Just Cause, the Benghazi Attacks, the Khost Bombing, and the Tripoli CIA evacuation, among others. In Episode 045 of the Shawn Ryan Show, you can see similarities to the Kyle Morgan episode, where there is distant memory of the fine details and an attempt to unpack what has been pushed away. The Shawn Ryan Show gives you a reality check and a glimpse of what war does to the human body. Our next guest on the Shawn Ryan Show is Bob "Ninja" Poras.

We were running a check point and pulled a truck over. The guys looked like straight up locals even had a goat in the back of the truck. They Spoke perfect English. We got a call on the radio to allow them to pass and no further information. The occupants of the truck asked us to pull them out of the truck and do a full search because "they were watching". They said they had submachine guns under their robes and to act like they weren't there. We searched them and the truck like normal and allowed them to leave.

Best way to do it even as a civilian speaking to an officer.. except it works better when you go like this, "how ya doing officer, before we continue on I'd just like to let you know out of professional courtesy I have a loaded firearm(say where weapon is.. on my right hip, glove box etc etc).. let me know how you want to proceed".. oh and both hands on the steering wheel from before he can even see you from his car and until he directs you after you've told him about said weapon.. it's a great way to not get shot, keep the officer at ease(hands on steering wheel), while also letting him know your on his team(that's the, out of professional courtesy, part), also keeps him at ease.. imagine having to be a cop in America where regular people can legally have a 5.56 with a 100 drum, level IV vest/plates etc etc.. that's got to be nerve racking.. not too mention a lot of gangbangers have smartened up about their choice of weapons.. they're all using hi cap mags, "switches" on their Glocks, green tips for their 5.56's and run away choppers.. I really don't even like police though, I just don't wanna get shot because some idiot is under trained, nervous and or looking to use his service weapon for the first time..

When i first got to the fleet i was FAPd to military police because they were understaffed. One day i was working the gate and a few SUVs pull up with the darkest tinted windows I'd ever seen. The driver rolls the window down maybe 2 inches, just enough to fit a badge through. We never had someone show us a badge, it was always CAC cards that we scanned. I asked him to roll the window down and asked if he had a CAC card. He said "i can't do that" then just tapped his finger on his badge twice. I lean in close and i tried to grab it from him and he pulled it back through the vehicle and said "i cant let you have that." He put it back through the window for me to see it, i take a look and its a secret service badge. While I'm leaned in i also had the opportunity to take a look through the small opening in the window. I look in the back and sure enough its a bunch of guys in suits and all of them were holding ARs/SMGs, i couldn't really tell, it was a quick peak lol. I radioed it in asking if we were expecting secret service and yeah, apparently Trump was visiting our base and no one told us. It all checked out but the sketchiness of that situation could've easily been avoided with a little communication lol.

Best moments I’ve ever had in the military was providing airstrip security for SEAL Team 3 in Iraq in early 2017.
I was the vehicle commander for our humvee. As soon as the bird touched the ground, a few dudes in board shorts, work out tees and combat kits got out and one of them came over to my truck and got in. My buddy (240 gunner up in the turret) looked at the dude and said, “who the fk are you?” The guy answered, “I’m one of the SEALs that landed.” Without a hint of sarcasm, my buddy said, “Idc if you’re the president of the United States, gtfo of my humvee.”

As we were standing there a huge beast of a man came marching through the terminal the crowd of people spread out like fish in front of a shark. He was carrying two huge bags in each hand, I’ve never seen such corded muscle on a human being. He was wearing civilian clothes, jeans and a tee shirt and had long black hair. My boss cajoled the Colonel into telling us what’s this guy’s story? He said I shouldn’t be telling you but he’s Delta Force. I doubt they’re all as big and bad looking as this dude was. They drove the wrong way over the tire rippers past the signs saying past this point we will kill you. 10 guys come running out MG in tower draws a bead they are screaming American American pointing to their flags. A very bad mistake was avoided that day no loss of life but honestly the mistake was the seals and our guys not opening up on them. They got that Suv close enough to our CP to completely turn it into a crater which is exactly what happened to the last CP on that checkpoint on the 14th of July bridge right before we took over a car bomb turned it into a crater about 5 meters in front of where our CP was set up. I would have been killed in the blast because I was in the CP. we are very lucky it was seals in a hurry and not a suicide bomber by the time people saw the flags and heard English it was way too late I am shocked the terrorists didn’t use those tactics to their advantage more. They could have targeted checkpoints without a attack for awhile and put a few American uniforms on them acting confused and boom boom unimpeded access to the base/ zone.

He said it was a tense moment and he was afraid of accidental friendly fire so why he made sure flag patch clearly exposed and pointed gun because if someone was gonna die it wasn’t gonna be him. He said he didn’t realize everyone was pointing their guns until he realized one was over his shoulder. Can’t remember exactly what he said but it was something like “you’re interfering with our mission back off” lol my dad enlisted into the Navy though and told me he wasn’t a SEAL but at his funeral they presented 2 flags and the guy presenting the flags was a Navy SEAL. I still have no answers to why but hearing his story from another POV makes me question things even more. I also saw a young Mike Glover in real life because I had the honor of seeing “Black Hawk Down” in theaters 2 weeks before it was released to the public at the Eisenhower movie theater in Savannah GA. I was playing an arcade shooter and he says to me “You should join the Army so you can do that for real”. I remember that all these years later because walking out of the theater in silence to the sound of mourning is something I’ll never forget. Before driving home my dad turned around and said “if you’re too afraid to be one of these guys then you need to be brave enough to support them.” I love your podcast because you and everyone on here reminds me of him. The triple tap thing came on as a suggestion from Andrej.
It was depending on the type of gun / bullet that was being used.
The purpose was that you want people to stop when you shoot them. A lot of guns/bullets will leave the person standing for a while if they go down at all.
Sometimes you want a gun that won't shoot through people and you want to spread out your shots so they don't create through shots as you could be in a crowd etc where you might hit unintended targets.
Head shots will leave them standing as do heart shots. Sometimes it takes a few. It isn't like the movies.

I used to bartend at this little mini resort in Bocas del Toro Panama. And about a half mile walk down the jungle path, and it would open up to an abandoned complex that had a runway and a mansion and all this other crazy stuff.
Turns out it was one of many of Manuel Noriega‘s. Houses that he would use not only as a getaway, but also for Pablo, Escobar’s planes full of cocaine to land.

Funny story the guy in the DEA jacket is Rene De La Cova who was in Panama on a DEA plane to buy shrimp, yes shrimp. They called him and told him to jump in on the arrest. He and his wife also an agent were later arrested in Florida during their money laundering operation. They we’re working both sides of the fence. Setting up Narco traffickers and laundering for them. The old days

I was working at a hotel doing the night shift when I had a guy from Navy Special Weapons come in. He's was the loudest most biggest asshole I have ever met, and I absolutely loved him. His every word was a shout, and he had no problem showing his racism. He was a straight up Patriot, which means he was a straight up asshole. Definitely the guy I want in my corner.
When we got to talking about his service, I somewhat impressed him with a little know-how that most civies don't get. NavSpecWep, 12 Seal teams, Training regime and whatnot, just stuff I picked up from reading or having a general interest in Military.
Well! He decides that I'm cool enough to show his rifle to! So he goes to his truck and pulls out the fully kitted M4 assault rifle. Scope, flashlight, infra-red laser, front grip, black coated, loaded with hp, the whole she-bang. As we're standing in the lobby, handling this monster piece of hardware, we suddenly realize that having this equipment in the open in civilian life, is a big fucking no-no. So we split ways and I left work without ever seeing him again.
Special Forces guys are fucking special. I love them with all of my heart. Even if they are occasionally loud mouth, racist, show off, sons of bitchs.

Just another poor, sad, lonely loser who took the road he so chose to feel better about himself. All he saw was a glimpse of his true self in you. Which is cool. Poor dude.
