- The plaintiff says the defendant hired him to work on his 1978 sailboat, which had sunk twice. He claims the man posted defamatory comments online and he wants them taken down. He’s suing for the max for defamation, slander, and injunctive relief. The defendant claim the plaintiff didn’t know what he was doing and admits posting the negative comments. He’s countersuing for the value of stolen items.

That's because it's rarely defamation. Listing opinions, like someone is a jerk isn't defamation. It has to be factual statements that are lies, and (in the USA) meant to harm the person's reputation.
Defendant just needs to admit he was trying to negotiate, procrastinate, and lie his way into getting the job done as cheaply as possible.
Definitely defendant is a dopey doofus.
We all know he's a liar because we all just watched Milian point out no less than 5 lies.
In his recap, he just continues with his lies as if we're supposed to believe what he says, regardless of what we just witnessed.

Defendant seems to be someone to whom facts just get in the way of their argument. He claimed in the Yelp review that he had filed a police report but never did. In various places, he claimed the plaintiff demanded $3,000 or $4,000 or $6,000.
He's someone I literally wouldn't believe if his tongue came notarized.
Why does a guy with a yacht like this have to "move funds around to get you 500" to pay the plaintiff? Sounds like he can't really afford that luxury right now.
Also sounds like he's trying to hide what it's costing him from his wife. One of the few things that came out of his mouth that I actually believe is that he was doing financial dealings about it behind his wife's back.
"A yacht like this"? Its a 1978 twice sunk piece of junk. If the defendant had money he wouldnt be trying to repair this mess, he'd buy something better.
This is no yacht. My friend bought a boat like this that he bought & fixed up for less than $5,000.

Glad the plaintiff won this one! He had me laughing. The defendant is a liar. He lied and said whatever he needed to to delay the carpenter from stopping. Luckily the plaintiff did have some sense to realize the deal. Though, he never should’ve started without full deposit. JM was right when she said if it didn’t have the full deposit at the beginning. Then he would never have it and the rest to pay by the end.
The defendant at the end, “I’ll have our people take it down.”. The defendant lives in a mansion, with butlers and private chefs, but he couldn’t afford to pay the plaintiff for his work. LLLAAAWWWWWLLLLL!!! 🤣🤣🤣
The defendant is just a liar and a bully who didn't want to pay full price. He is a creep who cannot admit to his lies even when caught out on them. His arrogance shows when asked to take the reviews down and he says 'I'll get my people to do it'. He kept changing the amount from 3000 to 4000 to 6000. So he had a narrative he wanted to give and the facts didn't really matter. He probably made up a story for his wife, she responded and he took her response as justification. Shady behaviour.

Whenever some litigants lose they always claim it wasn’t fair, their evidence wasn’t heard completely, or other excuses. This boat owner obviously wanted work done, but wasn’t willing to pay a reasonable price for it.

The plaintiff wholeheartedly deserved the whole $10,000. There's no telling how much business it cost him. There should have been punitive damages awarded, too, if guy doesn't immediately take those reviews down.

HRAC, but the plaintiff kept promising to pay off the rest of the deposit, which is something you're supposed to pay before start of project, right? He also wrote that in his slanderous reviews. Why was that never brought up? Plaintiff was just asking for the rest of the deposit. Why was he never called out about that as one of the lies?

Ummm... verbal is hearsay for one. Especially if the parties disagree. You can't decide who's truthful or not. Hearsay is usually not used as evidence in ANY court. Secondly if you did have a verbal agreement but then a text agreement that both agree to, the latter becomes the agreement.
