Really all they rate is the body. You've gotta admit that if you take that body and give it a good core then it would be a good lock. Nothing short of a grinder is going to beat it destructively. It's just too bad that Master apparently doesn't consider picking enough of a threat to protect against.
Very interesting. I’ve never seen an M930 with all standard pins. The few I’ve picked have 4 spools. BUT, I have run into a regular 930 with all standards... and it’s supposed to have 4 spools. Looks like a case of terrible QC, because I’m pretty sure that’s not spec. Even with the spools though, this is a 30 second Lock. It’s a shame because it’s not bad otherwise.
They've discretely changed them. In the now 930X, the screw holding in the plug is a TORX. Because, you know, it was too easy to get to the core and see their crap using a screwdriver just about everyone has. I think that's where the "X" comes from. Also, FYI; the "KA" you see in some Master model names means, "Keyed Alike." If you check the shelf at your local big-chain hardware store, you'll find a lot of these locks are keyed alike to others nearby. This makes it easier for people who need to buy a dozen of these at once to get them keyed alike; but of course it kida screws the folks dumb enough to buy one for their home from the store in the neighborhood because all of their neighbors who bought that lock probably have a key to their lock as well as their neighbors'. Master likes to screw everyone they can who is NOT a business. I think the reason they put their best cores into their LOTO locks and crappy ones into their "10's" is so their corporate clients can tell their insurance companies that since they host Master's best cores, the LOTO locks are as safe as they can be, so when it comes to a court case over a wrongful death because someone else removed another worker's LOTO, (These are often supposedly "One Lock, One Key" to ensure no one else CAN remove the LOTO without destroying it)the insurance company gets to say the LOTO was not picked opened and MUST have either been removed with the key, or by a person intent on murder. Either way, not Master's fault, not the insurance company's fault, and not the employer's fault. Wanna know why something stupid is happening? Follow the money. Always....you know that; you're a lawyer!
The drain hole is actually in a good location relative to the top of the screw too; it's offset, so you can't use that as a guide hole. If Master would just use some decent cores, they'd have solid locks.
eak125 : Yeah, I thought the same. I thought this was going to be at least a bit of challenge. We have a Master Lock padlock here where I work... It's been gutted though and a Aussie BiLock core put in it - now THAT thing is a challenge. I tried, took 3 weeks to pick it at 20 mins. at a time (first time on a BiLock) and even then I couldn't repeat it. I reckon I just got lucky (and need more practice).
I had on and I put the cylinder in from one of there plastic lockout locks. Six security pins with that spring tension was actually a very hard pick in a solid body.
Most burglars wont bother picking or raking, if they cant get in destructively, they will move on Also 98%~ of burglars wont use grinders due to how conspicuous it is
Hi Bosnianbill. So at my job we were in the works of purchasing our locksmiths company before we had financial issues and I already did a lot of learning by replacing and rekeying locks but never really learned how to pick but when it was in the talks of buying him out I got a pick set n would always rake with a decent amount of success and since that deal fell through and the opportunity came up where our old locksmith needed someone to handle business while he’s on his trips I decided that this was something I really want to learn and have been watching you and the lockpickinglawyers videos for the past 2 months and I got a cheap amazon and wish set (Amazon was $12 wish was $8) and when I got the sets they were relatively the same the one from wish was kinda rough but after fair use they are same in terms of feel. We use a lot of master locks at work and we have a bunch that we don’t have they keys for (if you saw our key trays which are literally hundreds and with no labels you wouldn’t want to try every key and me just trying to pick them which some were rated 7-9 on master locks ratings I was able to pick (actually picking by feel because I really want to learn the craft) I was able to pick over 40 locks within a week. (Which I now use as my practice locks) we also have some American locks which I have on my keychain which I would love to send a picture of I have 87 keys on my key rings which I use for work and if my set doesn’t open it then I know no one at work has the key and I would have to resort to looking in the bins. My question is what recommendations do you have to be a good learners but also challenging lock where I can learn how to feel security pins and how to handle them?
Thanks for the help Bill!! My wife bought me a magnum 10 and I didn't watch this video but the one on the lvl 9 lock. Picking from the front let me crack this one open.
Anyone else getting constant pauses with this video? I checked my speed and I am getting 170download, the rest of youtube is fine, so I am wondering what else I can do.
I'd be scared that the draining water would open it. I love how you rake it open, then talk about the drain hole Mr. Bill, that probably softened the blow to Master Junk.🔓🔑🖇️📌📎, or a📍
I bought the same lock a few of years back, all I wanted is something with spools.. I was sooo disappointed when I opened it up and it didn't have 1 security pin. I figured a 10 on their security scale would at least have a spool or 2, lol. To be somewhat fair, some of these 930XKADLH do have spools.... I even went so far as to contact Masterlock about this. They did not respond.
Rookie Lock if it say's 10/10, one would only imagine it has security pin's but after all, this is Master Lock we are talking about. 😕 Pretty pathetic of them not to even respond though. 🤔
Like a number of other commenters I'm also having throttling issues with this video. I haven't had any issues with any other video today, just this one. It's really weird.
Knubbers24 Ryan Van Riper I'm having the same problem. Watched a bunch of other videos before this one. Try and watch this video, won't hardly play. Try and watch other videos, and they play just fine. Go back to this one, won't play.
I seem to be having trouble getting, the video to play, im not having the same issue with most any other video either. Iv even tried playing it on my ps4 instead of my phone, it just only loads in small chunks
Hey Bill i cannot view this video without terrible buffering. Im talking every few seconds and it last up to 30 seconds. Other videos like defranco do not buffer. I contacted support and they said to leave feedback.
Dillon Mitchell Sounds like a local router problem. The videos are in 1080 max, so maybe you could try a lower resolution to see if it streams any better.
I'm having the same problem. Tried to watch the video yesterday but I gave up. No other video that I watched in high resolution buffered like this one. I even tried 144p and it still buffered like crazy.
I purchased one of these from Home Depot a few weeks ago. Busted out the city rake and I was in within seconds. However, to my complete surprise, when I gutted mine and inspected the pins, it had 5 spools! Perhaps the bitting was perfect for the city rake. The SSP of it took seconds as well, as mine had the convenient binding order of 1,2,3,4,5
I bought one of these M930XKADLH magnum locks at local Home Depot a month or so ago. It has a crimped core, all spools and an allen screw holding the core retention plate on. other than that its the same. Its definitely not rake-able. Like the one in video. With a slightly filed Sparrows padlock bypass driver Im able to open this lock also.
Tex Patriot it would be tougher to pick, but the way the pin chambers in the plug are countersunk means that you have a much greater margin of error when manipulating the pins. The locks are made that way to allow for sloppier tolerances with pins and keys, but this also makes them easy to pick.
On the shipping container I bought it has one of these lock on the door handle in the open position. If I pick it and take it to a locksmith can a key be made or is it just cheaper to cut off and buy new lock.
Tried watching this video on different devices with different internet access and it never plays, stops, buffers. Been on the page several minutes and only got to 11 seconds. Have no issues with any other videos or channels. Even on 144p.
Solved (at least for me) I disabled a plugin called h264ify. UA-cam streams VP9/8 codec but some cpu's (mine) struggle so h264ify forces h264 streaming instead. This for some reason was not playing nice with this video. I disabled the plugin and it plays. Re-enable plugin, problem presents itself again.
I bought this lock a year ago and it came with security pins (spools) in it. I wonder if they originally had security pins then started to cut corners???? Too bad too, it's one of my favorite practice locks.
MasterLock already makes security pins and threaded cores for their lock-out/tag-out locks. Why can't they just put that stuff in these? It's like they're actually trying to do it wrong!
That is absolutely the saddest thing I have seen from "them" thus far. Not even one single security pin, NOTHING !!! And they dare put a TEN on that.....
Oh no no, clearly you miss read it, that wasn't their attempt at a 10, that was their attempt at a 1.0, the decimal must have just not printed out.... what a joke.
hockeyhacker97 LOL, yes it must be a typo. I don’t understand why they put a good core a plastic LOTO lock and such a POS in a big strong lock like this one. It’s all backwards. So sad but I would fire somebody.
I recently bought two of these for a really good price (12€/piece) and had planned to upgrade the core and use them for low security applications around the house but upon closer inspection both are missing the screw that holds the bottom plate in place and seem to use some sort of rivet instead. Did I get counterfeit ones or is that Masters new way to save some bucks during production?
I recently ordered some sparrows tensioners. And they’re too large for any master lock I’ve got. Can’t get them in just about any key way. Is that normal? Do I need to sand them down?
The same lock I bought over a year ago to play with had 4 spools in it. Now that you've gotten one and gutted it, you may remember I messaged you around a year ago asking if the six pin core from a master lock lockout410 would work in this 930 body? At the time when I asked before you said you didn't know. Now that you've gutted it, do you think the core from a 410 would work?
They have a contract with USPS using these locks as well as model 6121 and other similar weather resiatant models for security on high value packages. UPS and FedEx use mostly American brand.
For some reason I picked up a newer version of this lock and had trouble raking it. Super high resistance to open it. Im a newer lockpicker and figured all masterlocks were created equal.
There is something wrong with this video or it is being throttled. I can view other channel videos and your latest madbob video without any issues. Keeps buffering even when set at the lowest resolution.
I love how master lock has quite some branding, at least in my country yet they are not able to make a damn lock that can serve it's purpose and secure something. Although, the core is replaceable with a standard euro profile cylinder, you could use that good body and put something that actually locks.
After watching Bosnianbill and LockPickingLawyer's videos on picking Master Lock LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) padlocks and how good the 6 pinned core is, and then watching Wayne Winton's video on how extremely difficult it was to cut the 930 (He had to use a bolt cutter with a ratchet strap), I find that destroying a LOTO and installing the core in the 930 is still cheap enough to be one of the least expensive and tough locks for the money. The $23.00 930 is a really really tough lock to cut. Just swap the core out from a $9.00 LOTO.
Steve Kim good idea, as long as the cores match. Sometimes they have different actuators, but I've never taken apart a Master LOTO. Need to get one now, and try your idea out. Thanks.
I'd be a little concerned about attracting criminals with something that screams "easy target", even if it secretly had a better core in it. I'd rather they just walked on by.
have one of these someplace, decent body, crap core. got it to swap the core, but i haven't found one that works with the tail shape just yet in my collection of parts.
Tell me about it... I lost the keys tomorrow 930 I watched this video made my own rake and tension wrench and raked it open. I am not a locksmith I am a carpenter and shade tree machinist. Now I need to have it re keyed since I got it open.
Hi, after watching this video, I bought the lock on Ama*** in Europe. Here it's called "Excel" (instead of Magnum). M930EURDLH. Looks as great and beefy as it is easy to pick. Sadly, my one has two shallow cuts on 1 and 2 and deeper ones on 3 to 5. Once I got the binding order, I can now open it reliably within half a minute (SPP). Great show effect, opening a 30+ Euro lock in 30- seconds. By the way, that little key pouch on the packaging, hiding the bitting from the front but fully exposing it from the rear... Same in the US?
First, I'd recommend some kind of disablement mechanism. Second, I'd recommend some kind of tracker. Third, park you bike in a secure area with physical and/or video surveillance. Last comes the lock and chain. Grab an Abloy disc detainer with a shielded shackle. For a chain, look at the Peweg with a 12mm thickness. Understand tho, that the chain will only resist a die grinder attack for roughly 4 minutes. After that, your bike is gone. So, you objective is to make your bike a less attractive target than the OTHER bikes parked nearby... Sad but true. I have a friend with an older Harley and lives in a nearby apartment complex. To protect his bike against theft, he wheels it through the double glass door into his living room at night. Hey, whatever works.
I remember you doing one that was rated something like a 9 and it had security pins. And they have the tech from American locks, their ProSeries, the 911s, etc. This is weird even for MasterLock.
I bought one of this picked out the toughest bid key i could came home gutted it and put my own special spin on it... use it in the covered bed of my truck everyday... stupid rubber lasted probably 2 days... where the shackle is in the lock is rusted all to hell if i didnt use it everyday im sure it would be frozen
Bill, I have this exact same lock I got on eBay some time ago. Was wondering how you fixed this lock? Didn't see anything else from you on it. I'm guessing you could re-pin it with american lock pins? But I agree the cylinder looks pretty sloppy. Did you find a replacement cylinder? I took an American cylinder and tried it in the lock , it fit but the engagement end is different and I couldn't seem to make it work? I know on American locks I put a spring and top pin in the last cylinder and a #4 pin and it gives you 6 pin security with a 5 pin bitted key. Ironically the exact same pin on Kwikset does the same thing, if you have a 6 pin cylinder. Worked like a charm on my Abus 83/45. Also I'm wondering do the master locks suffer the same problem as the American locks with the Peterson cylinder bypass tool? Sure looks like it would? Speaking of those wafers that you put in up to 3 of them to secure American locks, do you have a source to obtain them? Only ones I found were on eBay and they were $5.00 for a bag of 10. Seems kind of expensive. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
So, after I sent this yesterday, I decided to try my hand at picking this thing. Note I am probably the worlds worst lock picker lol. I wouldn't have much of a career as a burglar..... But any way it took me maybe 30 seconds to rake pick it lol. Wow if the world all used Master locks, i would have a thriving career as a burglar lol. Anyway all kidding aside it's pretty sad. The lock is build like a brick Shit house. And the core is a mess, I can't even imagine re-pinning it with spools and serrated pins is going to help much? Is there a better cylinder that can be put in this thing? American lock cylinders don't seem to work or I could make mine anyway? It's really too bad this lock would be awesome if it had some really secure core in it.
Concerning aspect that could escape many is the part number... the "KA" means Keyed Alike, the "LH" is just the shackle length, and the "D" is Display packed. When I sell padlocks, each client gets a true KD number we randomize when rekeying EVERY American and Master PRoSeries lock we sell. You mention lack of spools and serrations and a 6th pin.... the 6230 has all that, and a MUCH better tolerance keyway. Not everything MAster makes and sells is junk, just the built-to-price stuff from your favorite places to shop, Amazon and Home Depot
You got a junk lock then. Mine came with a couple spools and a serrated driver pins. Granted it wasn't too hard to get in. I used a city rake then spp'd the last pin that didn't set
Bill, I commented on an earlier video but the audio problem is your noise reduction. Please do NOT filter and the problem will resolve itself. I ran into this same problem on my videos back when I was uploading and the solution is to eliminate or drastically cut back on your post processing.
That's the plan beginning on the next video. My filtering experiments to please a small number of viewers is at an end... I ended up making things worse instead of better -my bad.
I stick master lock W600 cores in those and they are much better. The core is $6 on line and it has spool and serrated pins. It also has an AM3 keyway so you can use your American lock keys on it
The newer production ones now come with all spool driver pins. However they are not much better as I can still pick them rather quickly and i am a very inexperienced picker, also some of them still rake open easily even with the new security pins. Not to mention they still have that large nut that can be unscrewed with pliers once the rubber piece is removed. You can always count on master to make sure there is at least one or two ways to quickly defeat their locks with little to no skill so that if you lose your key or are a criminal you will never be locked out lmao.
I bought some really cheap from ebay. 2 of them can be opened with a paper clip as tention tool and some hits with the bare hand to the not pinned side, 3 more can be raked really easy but one has resisted everything I tried so far... Maybe I got the one in a million secure Master xD Btw you can really easy reassemble these rubber seals, if you put them in the fridge for about 30 minutes :)
Enjoy your videos very much. Been watching and learning from you for years, albeit slowly. Based upon your low opinion of Master locks do you believe there is any training value in picking them? Thank you for your tireless teaching, innovation and time you put into your channel!
Bill if the shacle is boron carbide it is a cheramic and might actualy take some timewith a diegrinder. I think you schould test that becous it might takesuprisingly long time and reqiere change of dies
I feel like it's a good lock if you boost the core up. I think a master w600 core fits in them which has an American am3 keyway and spool pins. Plus it could be keyed to American locks
Huh. Mine had some fairly deep spools in it. Four of five driver pins, if I recall correctly. Of course, I obtained it at least a couple of years ago. Seems like ML is hell-bent on plummeting to the bottom. . .
Hello Bill, I have a lock problem I was wondering if you could help me with. This thing has stumped me. It's an old elevator on/off/fire service lock. I have never seen one like it. It's a wafer lock with a very strange like female tail piece. It has fallen into disrepair and I would love to see if you can help ke identify it for replacement. Thank you in advance, I also emailed the lock lab in case you don't see this.
I watched lots of bills videos and I still don’t get it???The body and shackle are decent. It would add no additional cost to out a decent core and pins into it... Could you put the loto 6pin core in it?Then it would be at least a bit secure
Bill, have Mastercrock ever been in touch with you? Or has anyone ever fwd one of Bill's videos to them and had a response? I would be embarrassed if I were the CEO of these jokers.
Yeah, I heard from them a few years ago when one of their lawyers threatened to sue me if I didn’t take down a video (Picking under Stress). I refused and after a couple more threats, never heard from them again.
They don't have any, because they are too busy laughing at people who buy their junk because they make tens of dollars for every penny they spend to make one of these locks.
You know, it's funny. I've been watching Bill's vids for years. A few years back, I noticed that the padlock on the garage door control box was missing/stolen (I think I know what really happened to it but I won't elaborate here). So I went to a local hardware store and bought a Master padlock (a dial one with a key that lets you change the code). It's piss-weak. I tested it a few times. The code I selected doesn't work properly but you can open it with a few tries. Anyway, it hasn't been stolen yet. :)
Been a long time but almost my whole tool chest is full of Wera stuff, from screwdrivers to wrenches (Joker), to Socket sets. Nothing but the best! I bought it all from either eBay or Amazon, mostly the latter.
@@bosnianbill I appreciate the response. Wera tools are very nice and durable, Have been trying to complete my tool set with all Wera tools. Anyways love the videos Bill and stay safe!
I see comments on video and audio problems -- Mr. Bill - I have NEVER ever had any problems with video or audio -- I must admit I don't listen through my Studio Monitors, but your videos ALWAYS sound just fine (maybe a little quiet or variable sometimes in terms of audio levels)
Thanks Ken, I needed to hear that! I've been driving myself crazy chasing gremlins, striving for a level of perfection I'll never reach while recording these in my garage...😋
I got to say the intro on this video is one of your classicist and makes your channel look snazzy Oh and All of those alphabet soup just means that with out to key to open the lock you aren't going remove the lock from the impenetrable Chinese plastic packing material. Next let's see the LOCKPICKINGLAWYER do destructive force opening video using his RAMSET GUN.👍
And while we are on the subject of junk. I just bought a Master lock Magnum M50xkad with a security rating of 8 and racked it open in 30s econds. Then I spp’d it in a minute. And I’m not that good of a picker yet. I could not believe it.
My PS4 refuses to play this video and my phone is loading it insanely slowly as I type this. I've had this problem all day and am only now finally saying "screw it, let it load, I've been waiting all day." I only have this problem with this singular video. Everything else across the Internet is fine for me. Other people in the comments are having this issue too. What's going on? [EDIT] It only loaded to 3:58 minutes... I wonder how many times I can rake my No. 3 open in the time it takes my high-speed Internet to load this one video...
All righty. Finished loading the last 30 seconds while I was watching. Yes, I actually raked my MasterLock No. 3 open 141 times while waiting for this video to load on my high-speed Internet (at 480p, btw, because 720 was just unplayable). I kind of cheated though. Not only did I not close the lock between rakes (doesn't have to be closed to engage the lock, I merely reset the key position) but I also have in muscle memory the exact position my Southord W rake (thanks for the suggestion, Bill!) needs to be in to open this particular lock without actually raking back and forth; just like a key. MasterLocks make you look like a freakin magician. Aside from the horrendous throttling - or whatever's going on with this load time - the audio compressor and/or limiter you're using, Bill, combined with whatever background noise was in this video (guessing AC) caused for some drastic dropouts in sound between sentences and other sound peaks. You definitely should experiment more with base room levels so it's just not picking up that AC at all; even when you're talking. If that's a no-go then you can make a box to insulate the sound of the blowing air. It's essentially an insulated S-shape the air travels and expands through; kills vent hiss on even the toughest blowers in my experience.
Tophie Sorry for all the problems you had loading and I appreciate you sticking with it to finally watch the video. I have nothing to do with the download streaming from UA-cam, but I checked this on my laptop, iPad, and Android phone and it downloaded with no problem. I even downloaded it over the LTE network with good download speeds. It appears the problem is with your ISP provider or phone company, not YT. The video is fairly compact and was processed as I process all videos - nothing out of the ordinary. Could it be that your provider has speed limited you? I'd recommend you re-boot your phone and re-try if you run into this problem again.
Bosnianbill I'm with Cox... You know, the cable company whose name is more than just a coincidence? Of course you don't throttle your own videos; that'd be ridiculous. I just wanted to add my name to the list of people who were having trouble with this one video (which loads perfectly fine now, even in HD). Also, it was fun. I haven't touched my No. 3 in a couple of months. When I had to wait to watch you rake yours open I decided to pull mine out and do the same. Lastly, the annoyance wasn't that I had to wait, it's that this was literally the only thing on the Internet that wasn't behaving as expected. I'm not sure how or why this happened, but I neither like nor trust it...
i really don't understand their philosophy.. i mean they actually do make really nice quality locks, apart from the locking part. it's not like it would be twice as expensive to get some security pins in there. just... why...
I haven’t tried but am willing to bet it won’t. If nothing else, their mechanism is really well designed and resists physical attacks pretty well. Only the lock itself is a piece of junk. If they’d correct that, they’d be golden.
I think their 1-10 rating system is meant to represent how many seconds they take to rake.
Really all they rate is the body. You've gotta admit that if you take that body and give it a good core then it would be a good lock. Nothing short of a grinder is going to beat it destructively. It's just too bad that Master apparently doesn't consider picking enough of a threat to protect against.
Kris Sisk It says MAX pick resistance. Maybe it means that it won't break when picked?
Even better, it won't come remotely close to breaking your pick.
I think it refers to the age of a person that can open it!
Peter M Heh. Actually, I have a 10 year old and...yeah. She can pick a Master.
Why don't they always put in spools, etc?
They've discretely changed them. In the now 930X, the screw holding in the plug is a TORX.
Because, you know, it was too easy to get to the core and see their crap using a screwdriver just about everyone has.
I think that's where the "X" comes from. Also, FYI; the "KA" you see in some Master model names means, "Keyed Alike."
If you check the shelf at your local big-chain hardware store, you'll find a lot of these locks are keyed alike to others nearby.
Do you think Master uses their own locks to lock up their factories?
braindeadtiger 4297 I'm not sure, but they definitely could. Who'd want to steal Master locks
If they DO, then there must be one of those “take a number” systems for all the crooks lining up...🤔
That's a great question. I think NOT
We could send them a mail to ask
Nah Bill. There's nothing in a Masterlock factory that crooks want. They know how bad those locks are.
You opened my eyes a few years ago. Thank you for continuing to put their feet to the flames.
The drain hole is actually in a good location relative to the top of the screw too; it's offset, so you can't use that as a guide hole.
If Master would just use some decent cores, they'd have solid locks.
Yep, "Maximum Pick Resistance" - exactly as advertised... Doesn't matter how much you pick on it, MasterLock don't flinch!
They said pick resistance... not rake resistance... /s
Seriously though, with that key bitting, it shouldn't have even been rakeable... yet it was.
eak125 : Yeah, I thought the same.
I used to use a lock that looked just like that to lock my motorcycle up. Nobody stole my bike lol.
Stef60s but they are tough under fire
10 stands for amount of time in seconds required to pick it.
I had on and I put the cylinder in from one of there plastic lockout locks. Six security pins with that spring tension was actually a very hard pick in a solid body.
chevelle rr1 what is the key blank number for a 6 pin key for these cylinders?
I also have done exactly that and still have not been able to pick it.
neil
Different from this 930? Or other master 900s?
I did same thing now I can't pick it. It was easy to rake the old one.
So if you wanna troll burglars, you put a good core into a master housing and then watch them trying to rake it LUL
that would be funny....
Yeah havent seen a master lock or and almost no american cores that isent a joke. For good stuff look at assa-abloy or fas
Most burglars wont bother picking or raking, if they cant get in destructively, they will move on
Also 98%~ of burglars wont use grinders due to how conspicuous it is
Hi Bosnianbill.
Ya
Travis Pachal I was about to ask that
Travis Pachal yes
Same here, this video loads slowwwwwwwwwwww
Me too, no matter what resolution I pick. Pity we can't report the video to UA-cam for technical issues.
I guess the "10" -rating comes from that you shouldn't "secure" anything over 10$ value with that lock.
I'd be scared that the draining water would open it. I love how you rake it open, then talk about the drain hole Mr. Bill, that probably softened the blow to Master Junk.🔓🔑🖇️📌📎, or a📍
My momma told me to ALWAYS find something nice to say, even if it is a struggle.😀
Thats what I thought, pretty sad..
Like a number of other commenters I'm also having throttling issues with this video. I haven't had any issues with any other video today, just this one. It's really weird.
I think the rating is how many seconds it takes to pick.
PERFECT definition!😉
It's rated 10 because it has 10 (TEN!) pins - counting both parts of course.
I score better than that when 10 pin bowling.
This video wont play on any of my 4 devices while every other video on yt works fine. Odd.
Knubbers24 Ryan Van Riper I'm having the same problem. Watched a bunch of other videos before this one. Try and watch this video, won't hardly play. Try and watch other videos, and they play just fine. Go back to this one, won't play.
Maybe Master is blocking the video so their secrets aren't revealed. Ooooooo, conspiracy... :-)
I've been trying since 3hrs after it was released. Only thing it plays on is my tablet, for about 10 seconds at a time, then buffer...
I seem to be having trouble getting, the video to play, im not having the same issue with most any other video either. Iv even tried playing it on my ps4 instead of my phone, it just only loads in small chunks
And its annoying as im always pleased to see a new one from you
Hey Bill i cannot view this video without terrible buffering.
Its only this video of yours. Other videos are ok. Im trying to dl it. Hope it works. Anyways i enjoy your vids.
The SSP of it took seconds as well, as mine had the convenient binding order of 1,2,3,4,5
Someone please send this poor guy a C-clamp removal tool!! He always has to use a screw driver or something hahaha
Drop a Lockout Tagout Core (6 pin core with security pins) in that and you'd have an amazing lock...
If you simply replaced some of the standard pins with security pins of the same size. How much better could the core be with the same key?
Tex Patriot it would be tougher to pick, but the way the pin chambers in the plug are countersunk means that you have a much greater margin of error when manipulating the pins. The locks are made that way to allow for sloppier tolerances with pins and keys, but this also makes them easy to pick.
Those aren't standard pins, those have nano-serrations! The newest in security. Serrations so fine, you can't even see them.
1:36 "We don't have any alien tech"
Bill never fails to make me laugh!
Cool logo there towards the end. :) about 8:28
On the shipping container I bought it has one of these lock on the door handle in the open position.
What if you lose the key it helps to be easy to pick
I have the true master level 10, a heavy shrouded pro series with a bowley rotasera cylinder inside it lol
Bill vs Masterlock...always fun clips!
If they put in a sixth pin, they could rate it as 11/10!
bashful I sense a Spinal Tap "This amp goes to eleven" vibe all the sudden....
The appearance of the padlock looks intimidating. LOL!
Thanks.
William Mancel The cores are interchangeable. Just drops right in. I have put together two of them.
Was there an anti-bypass device (thing) on this one?
Yep, identical junky packaging.
Bill what would you recommend for a chain and padlock to secure a motorcycle?
Did you notice that the longer key pins sit right at the shear line? You would have only had to pick 2 pins if you spp'd it.
I remember you doing one that was rated something like a 9 and it had security pins. And they have the tech from American locks, their ProSeries, the 911s, etc. This is weird even for MasterLock.
I bought one of this picked out the toughest bid key i could came home gutted it and put my own special spin on it... use it in the covered bed of my truck everyday... stupid rubber lasted probably 2 days... where the shackle is in the lock is rusted all to hell if i didnt use it everyday im sure it would be frozen
so why do i see other videos of these opened up with all spools?
No clue, this is an unmodified core. I can ASSURE you that it WILL have serrated and spools before it leaves the LockLab tho.
Should read , American lock cylinder don't seem to work or I couldn't make mine anyway.
It is actually a *tenths* scale.Master marketing departments didn't want to put that on the packaging...
I think this video is being throttled by youtube
hmmm. the last one of these that I bought was all spools in the top. good foundations for challenge locks though
An excellent video as usual. What size pin set and type would you recommend to repin the lock please?
Grab a Master/American pinning kit. The diameter of the ones for Kwikset and Schlage are too large.
Thanks for the speedy response much appreciated
Bill, I commented on an earlier video but the audio problem is your noise reduction. Please do NOT filter and the problem will resolve itself. I ran into this same problem on my videos back when I was uploading and the solution is to eliminate or drastically cut back on your post processing.
That's the plan beginning on the next video. My filtering experiments to please a small number of viewers is at an end... I ended up making things worse instead of better -my bad.
I stick master lock W600 cores in those and they are much better. The core is $6 on line and it has spool and serrated pins. It also has an AM3 keyway so you can use your American lock keys on it
These are actually pretty good locks if you recore them to something good. Everything but the core is rather sturdy.
Why is this only video specifically not loading more than 3 seconds at a time before buffering again?
These usually come with a crimped core and yours has a c-clip. Is this how Master is shipping these now?
Is kryptonite 1415 any good
Bill if the shacle is boron carbide it is a cheramic and might actualy take some timewith a diegrinder. I think you schould test that becous it might takesuprisingly long time and reqiere change of dies
I feel like it's a good lock if you boost the core up. I think a master w600 core fits in them which has an American am3 keyway and spool pins. Plus it could be keyed to American locks
You are right Bill The housing may be a 10... the pick resistance was a Typo it should have been a 1
Huh. Mine had some fairly deep spools in it. Four of five driver pins, if I recall correctly. Of course, I obtained it at least a couple of years ago. Seems like ML is hell-bent on plummeting to the bottom. . .
Everyone: "Master should really use security pins in their locks."
Master: "What's a security pin? You mean a pin slot with no pin?"
At least the core can be replaced with something more suitable. That black retaining nut though, is it plastic or steel?
It is case hardened steel, pretty tough stuff. Still, it is the weak link in the system.
No leg to stand on obviously.
Sorta unrelated, where do you buy your vices? I'm in the market to buy one but I can't seem to find one that fits locksport. Any tips?
Mine is a panavise. Check the description for models and links.
Thanks, Bill! I'll definitely do that.
Long story short, if you're buying a masterlock you buy their lockout/tagout lock and this one and you swap cores.
Master Lock management should be bowing their heads in shame. 😕
seppuku sounds reasonable.
I think they don't have any shame.
They don't have any, because they are too busy laughing at people who buy their junk because they make tens of dollars for every penny they spend to make one of these locks.
Does MasterLock use the same small set of cores in all their looks? It sure looks that way.
bill i know this video is a old upload, but i would love to know where you bought your wera tools from?
Been a long time but almost my whole tool chest is full of Wera stuff, from screwdrivers to wrenches (Joker), to Socket sets. Nothing but the best! I bought it all from either eBay or Amazon, mostly the latter.
@@bosnianbill I appreciate the response. Wera tools are very nice and durable, Have been trying to complete my tool set with all Wera tools. Anyways love the videos Bill and stay safe!
The core from the master lock 410 fits this lock perfectly.
By the knog security standards this lock would be grandmas house level of security
FYI I mostly always watch your Videos on a PC with WiFi connection
Bill, I'm detecting a squeaking sound after you speak. Sounds like it could be a problem with the microphone. Are you aware of it?
Another joke, scoring 10/10 brought to you by: Masterlock
Master lock must be REALLY proud of their craftmanship :)
well they can. the housing is crafted really nicely..... just the core is garbage.
I got to say the intro on this video is one of your classicist and makes your channel look snazzy
Oh and All of those alphabet soup just means that with out to key to open the lock you aren't going remove the lock from the impenetrable Chinese plastic packing material.
Next let's see the LOCKPICKINGLAWYER do destructive force opening video using his RAMSET GUN.👍
And yet the plastic safety lockout padlocks from Master have various security pins....
I've had this problem all day and am only now finally saying "screw it, let it load, I've been waiting all day."
I only have this problem with this singular video. Everything else across the Internet is fine for me.
Other people in the comments are having this issue too. What's going on?
[EDIT]
It only loaded to 3:58 minutes... I wonder how many times I can rake my No. 3 open in the time it takes my high-speed Internet to load this one video...
40 rakes, but it only loaded to 6:52 minutes.
Here we go again...
Literally 101 rakes later and still not loaded...
Wow. I wonder what features they thought were pick resistant.
These are good locks if it has deep biding like the one I found. Could only pick it twice.
i really don't understand their philosophy.. i mean they actually do make really nice quality locks, apart from the locking part. it's not like it would be twice as expensive to get some security pins in there. just... why...
Would love to see if the two wrench trick would work on this to bust the hasp
I haven’t tried but am willing to bet it won’t. If nothing else, their mechanism is really well designed and resists physical attacks pretty well. Only the lock itself is a piece of junk. If they’d correct that, they’d be golden.
If you don’t include the core i truly think this would rate pretty high compared to most of their other locks.
