The CX5 is a UL 437 rated pin-tumbler lock made by CX5 Security in South Korea. It uses six pin-tumblers and five springless finger pins which interface with a sidebar. The CX5 is distributed and rebranded by Marks USA in the United States. The CX5 was originally sold by Scorpion and distributed by Can-Am Door Hardware, Inc. It has since been rebranded by Far Pro Security Solutions and sold through CX5 Security of Canada/South Korea.
Listening to Bill's mind working as he's picking a difficult lock like this is amazing. His intense focus seems akin to a Zen meditative state... or something. He's INSIDE the lock and nowhere else.
Easy way to get past the top pins is by reverse picking. Lift all the pins, use heavy tension BOK, then pulse tension until they drop you into the false set. Switch to TOK and set the sliders. Works like a charm on both of my CX5s.
Yes Bill, a long vid, and I'm exhausted. Both LOCK and YOUR PERFORMANCE was ... absolutely fascinating. I think what most impresses me about you is your varied techniques, and persistence. I'm HAPPY you were able to end it with a clean gutting ;)
This is the kind of video that gives me pause to wanting to pick locks for a hobby. This lock is like a damn Rolex watch. Kidding. Great job Bill!. Thank you!
All those odd lock rating system. I liked the way Assa-Abloy used to label their locks: Record pick/bypass time using max 10 pounds of non-power tools. Choose 5, 10 or 15 minutes. As picking improved, locks were downclassed and massive advertisements run to make people upgrade the defeated locks to the better model.
I bought a CX5 KiK a few months ago an used it to replace the all-standard 6-pin Schlage core on a Stanley S828-145 CD8820. A great "look elsewhere" deterrent for sure...
I'm confused, what has been improved? Scorpion CX5 and Marks high security have always been the same. Maybe it seems improved because many of them were keyed incorrectly. If you don't believe me, check my really old Marks high security video. It's exactly the same pins/design as what you have. And yes mine was picked with lots of practice before putting on camera, was not an easy lock to pick.
"Improved" removed. Like you, I picked the older Scorpion and Marks but didn't keep them around the shop afterwards. I didn't remember the undercut chambers & thought that the new Korean manufacturer had made that change.
I have a soft spot for Stanley padlocks. Bill, it looks like that would drop right into one, upgrading it's pick resistance quite a bit. Any chance you have a Stanley around that you could try it with? If you're looking for a *great* padlock, pick up a few Stanleys. Not only are they a challenge for beginners to pick, upgrading the core to something more substantial makes them truly great high security padlocks. My collection is up to six of 'em now, and still growing. Edit: Oh, and was there any anti-drill protection in the CX5?
Yeah, and if another one shows up I'll simply throw it back into the box along with a whipped paclock! These are just too time consuming... You saw about 20 minutes of execution, but it took me about 2 DAYS to figure out what worked.
I recently picked one of these on my channel, pretty wicked lock.. I think Marks and CX5 are 2 different companies tho. Im not going to link because this will go to spam, but any one curious can search Marks HiSecurity and CX-5 lock and you will find one Canadian company (CX5) and one American (Marks)
Good night! That looks like a giant pain in the ass. It's a shame there're so many other vulns in a typical house/apartment, because that's some serious front door material.
Wow! Pretty amazing lock. Now just need to have more manufacturers try to do something like this instead of the poor marshmallow cores that they currently use. (I know I know, hard to give up profits to make something more secure when sales are good).
Don’t Lockz, check the LockpickingLawyer/Bosnian Bill video. It starts with the lpl trying to start picking an Alboy probably equipped with the Protec2 technology. If that is on the Lab, I’d hate to even try to guess what he has on his home!
Upside down! The hole where you insert these Euro-style locks is supposed to look like an oversized keyhole for a skeleton key. Of cause oval shaped cylinders are mounted with the pins up.
It was a rattle in his voice box. He is working on techniques like singers use to minimize it. Go figure after spent a bazillion dollars on audio gear and soundproofing. :/
It is a (probably permanent) "singer's rattle" in my voice box that occurs around 4600hz. If you look at the spectrogram of my audio you'll see that there is a blank spot along that frequency where I applied a notch filter. Not perfect, but it seems to work.
I love your videos. Can I make one suggestion? I know little about much and less about making videos. Saying that, I also want to say I am a long term noob.. is it possible to be close in enough with the zoom? to show all the detail of the lock and what your picking hand is doing, but, out just a little further to see your tensioning hand. I am struggling mostly with my tensioning and I watch for the different pressure you use by looking at your fingers. Thank you for hearing me.
Unfortunately you aren't going to be able to see the way someone changes their tensioning. It's not something that can be shown or quantified. Every person has to "feel" their own way through learning how to tension properly. The only way to learn it is practice practice practice. Bill has quite a few videos on it, or go here locklab.com/locklab-university/picking-techniques/. Best of luck to you!
That's also part of the reason Bill puts those marks on the sides of the core, a visual cue to when he is feeling counter rotation and therefore applying less tension.
Hey bill, I bought one of these from the same guy it sounds like. But you should try the over lift technique, I was able to open my custom pinned nightmare CX5 within minutes. Just a thought.
Hmm, strange. I was having a tough time SPPing, before I tried the over lift. But it works like a charm on mine. Mine is pinned, 736251, awesome bitting, high-low in a odd-even sequence. Anyway, great video.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxerlent well done bill well picked and I think it doesn't matter how long it takes to pick as long as u try nice lock well done I hope ur neck is getting better nice one thanks stiglocks..r..
Bill that was the best pick I've ever seen in video that lock has a sting in its tail.please keep them coming.By the way hope your throats getting better 8882huytonUK
Oh yeah I have to use round handles and like the larger round handles best. Made a bunch of picks all flat three weeks later had to cut them all down and put round handles on them.

Great pick on a very tricky lock!
Have you had go a yet?
I want to see LPL take a shot at it after Bill says light tension over and over
Nicely done. First video I've seen of yours where a picking has made you raise a sweat.
Listening to Bill's mind working as he's picking a difficult lock like this is amazing. His intense focus seems akin to a Zen meditative state... or something. He's INSIDE the lock and nowhere else.
Thanks for all the content over the years.

The bitting on the key doesn't look too scary but those security pins have turned this lock into a nasty little bugger ! :-)
Wow, that CX5 is a wicked little thing! Excellent pick Bill, and thanks for taking the time for the gut and explanation, very neat stuff!
Yes Bill, a long vid, and I'm exhausted. Both LOCK and YOUR PERFORMANCE was ... absolutely fascinating. I think what most impresses me about you is your varied techniques, and persistence. I'm HAPPY you were able to end it with a clean gutting ;)
Wow, very nice. Extreme patience and expertise are definitely necessary for this cylinder. Thanks!
This is the kind of video that gives me pause to wanting to pick locks for a hobby. This lock is like a damn Rolex watch. Kidding. Great job Bill!. Thank you!
That's insane. Keep up the learning experience for us. Thank you sir.
What a nasty lock, nice job getting that open!
Thank you! It took a couple of days to figure out the "technique".
I swear this mans intros are always great
Interesting video. You should try picking this installed in a lock and on a door. I’d like to see how much time it would take in a real world setting.
Great job figuring out raking/picking method.
I just watched your video from a couple years back of picking the Marks version 👍 lots of good info in both! I just got the Scorpion version 😃
Oh. so YOU are the one that watched it! Thanks! 😀
Haha! Literally about 15 minutes before this one posted! I’ll be sure to let you know when I get it picked 👍
Well done! Thanks for showing
Very impressive Bill. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice pick, love the CX5s they are quite the lock. Lol
Thanks for sharing your pick method.
That was pretty intense, but what a great pick Mr. Bill. Really appreciate your info to.
Nice picking Bill on this nice lock from Quebec, Canada ... Scorpion lock

What a battle! Great job bill!
Wow that was quite the battle and it didn't find it way to the naughty bucket! Great job Bill.
The naughty bucket holds locks that have not been picked, this lock will never visit the bucket.
Oups that was a typo, my bad.

*Great* *picking* *Bill*
Just under 14mins to keep you out. Good pick resistant lock there

tough lock!
for a minute there, I thought you were gonna snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Great job Bill thank you for the video
Fantastic picking skill, How they get all that security in such a small package is a beautiful thing..
Keep it light on tension? I want to see LPL take a shot at this!
How did the ball bearing locking mechanism work? And where was it built in on the lock?
There was no ball bearing. Instead, the spring loaded sidebar was giving the same type of feedback as a ball bearing.
Very nice for a commercial lock!
neat pins. long springs for an even feel even with different length key pins, and that nasty undercut. Congrats
This was actually an awesome video
Tough lock! Too many pick and rake changes and lots of thinking to get this open. My brain computation was lost after the first rake. 😆
Wouldn't it be funny if you had to do the sliders first?
@@two_tier_gary_rumain it would but I'm sure he tried every different combination on this lock.
It's not a combination lock. :)
@@two_tier_gary_rumain 🤔😁🤑
Great pick
Neat lock, Interesting.. Crazy. Nice Picking! 😓 All that raking, you'll be ready to do the yard work!
Not too bad for a factory produced lock. Sounds like you voice is on the mend too bill
WOW GREAT PICK... WOULD DEFINITELY MAKE A GREAT CHALLENGE LOCK.
Lets see you pick one of those Speed Directional master locks
Hey Bill how about taking us on a day trip to a lock manufacturing business tour (similar to how it's made)
Hi Bill, nicely done as usual. Hope your neck is on the mend 👍
Nice pick. I think this would make a great core to modify for challenge locks in future colab videos with LPL.
Yeah, and if another one shows up I'll simply throw it back into the box along with a whipped paclock! These are just too time consuming... You saw about 20 minutes of execution, but it took me about 2 DAYS to figure out what worked.

new manufactures are vulnerable to bypass, search CX5 reverse picking
Just watched your video, I hope Bill try this on his lock.
I would love to throw one of those cores in my Stanley shrouded Padlock.
Can you pick one of those clear acrylic locks so we can see your pick moving on each pin?
He did on # 748 and 750.
Enjoy.
Hi Bill, where can this lock be bought at?
I probably would have grabbed my ramset 5 minutes into it lol
Must be good if it gets the BB seal of approval to put the front door.👍🏽 Now I seen the key, are you putting this on your door?😁
Thats a combination of slider and security pins maybe yes don't you see bill garage door?
@@mayuravirus6134 no, I have not seen his garage door lock. I'm sure he has awesome door locks though. Definately no Kwikset though.
Don’t Lockz, check the LockpickingLawyer/Bosnian Bill video. It starts with the lpl trying to start picking an Alboy probably equipped with the Protec2 technology. If that is on the Lab, I’d hate to even try to guess what he has on his home!
Is it "fault set" or "false set"? Thanks
Upside down! The hole where you insert these Euro-style locks is supposed to look like an oversized keyhole for a skeleton key. Of cause oval shaped cylinders are mounted with the pins up.
Sounds better where you able to figure out the bell noise?
It was a rattle in his voice box. He is working on techniques like singers use to minimize it. Go figure after spent a bazillion dollars on audio gear and soundproofing. :/

Was that your own 3d printed lock holder and was the pick a Breach hook from rare elements ? Cheers
It is a 3D printed holder made by Thor, a subscriber that was generous enough to send it to me. The pick IS the Breach, by Rare Elements in 0.013".

I prefer to just watch it on the big screen at home and then I can also turn the volume up to 11.

Wow Bill, Too much coffee???
Hey bill, I bought one of these from the same guy it sounds like. But you should try the over lift technique, I was able to open my custom pinned nightmare CX5 within minutes. Just a thought.
You can be sure that I tried that. It is one of the first attacks I make on any new lock. It doesn't work.

Put that in a Stanley lock XD
Can you please do a random colab with Ave? You're both a set of hands, one of the same species.
I think you'd make a funny video together.
