FNaF VHS. It was a trend that was popular about 2 years ago in the community that helped spiral the analog horror genre. While everyone knows the Squimpus tapes, Walten Files, and MemeBear tapes, I feel there is one that is heavily slept on. Harmony and Horror is a FNaF inspired analog horror series that deserves a ton more recognition. Not to say that it’s unheard of, but I generally feel it is left out a ton while in the discussion of FNaF VHS, or even analog horror as a whole. I am to change that. This is my analysis of Harmony and horror, season one.

Actually, the FNAF VHS genre didn't start with Squimpus McGrimpus. They popularized it, but they didn't start it.
That honor goes to Junior0437, who made the first FNAF VHS video back in December of 2016, nearly 6 years ago.
Had no idea FNAF VHS tapes were being made so long ago, I'll have to go check them out!

Fun fact: the distorted music at the end of "She Can't Sleep" is actually from Fnaf 3 when the phantom puppet hovers right in front of you and disables your controls, just slowed down quite a lot
ALSO: the video name for the link in the description of "Are_You_Happy?" is a code that translates to: "Don't you want to be happy?"

Poor Bonzo he just wanted to be a good boy. Everytime I see Martin blaming poor Bonzo for killing Ava I never wanted to punch a clown more than that moment. Poor Bonzo did not deserve this fate. But he will always be the goodest boy in the analog horror community. Bonzo did nothing wrong. Thanks for talking about this series it's grossly underated and needs to be talked about more.

I 100% agree that Harmony & Horror is incredibly underrated. I remember watching it before I knew the Walten Files was a thing, and even after watching the Walten Files, I still found Harmony & Horror much more enjoyable.
i fell the same way
H&H is pretty much one of the scariest analog horror series I've seen up to this point. The Walten Files has some of the strongest writing and characters, as well as having incredibly unique art. I love both.
same. so glad it’s getting some recognition :))
@barf simpson how? I watched the entire series before watching this video and I have to say that shit was fucking mid. There were some good parts to it but H&H is literally just all the classic clichés of analog horror into one series. Like c'mon there has to be a point where distorted faces in photoshop aren't creepy anymore and are just straight up goofy.
@@thc_freebaser yeah H&H fucked me up a lot more than Walten Files.
When I first started dating someone, she went over to my home, put this on my TV and we just watched all of it. My poor brother walked in and saw the usual dating thing of two people snuggling but on the TV was static and horror ice cream and he was lost for words. As was I.

my big issue with harmony and horror is the flip flopping on canon theres a ton of videos in the playlist that are marked "non canon" yet deliver big lore drops and details making the whole story alot harder to put together outside a basic summary.

"The screen does an analog horror" why is that so funny to me
"Remember kids: dreams can be forgotten, but nightmares last forever" lmfao I'm dead
It’s actually kind of poignant to the series. The dream of making the perfect toy, a dream he’d forgotten the reason for perusing, gives way to a nightmare that’s scarred the people he’d claimed to care for forever.
51:32 is probably one of my fav parts. arthur was sobbing and wanting this to be all over, he still care for his brother even, he wants him to be better i felt that sm
It’s so sad, too.
Maybe because he knows that it's not him, he's controlled by the devil.
I assume that he's damaged like that, because maybe Martin counter-attacked him, with a gun and maybe with an axe or something that could crack the shell, when Arthur tries to stop his brother, Martin lost temper and destroyed the ice cream due disobeyed him
Tbh I appreciate battington more for the effort than anything.
The animation, modelling and story in it is well thought out and looks amazing but I feel like sometimes it tries *too* hard to be scary sometimes.
The fear factor of H&H feels a little lacking in comparison to some of the other series where I've had at least one "oh shit" moment in each of them (i.e. contingency, "found you" and "where are my children Felix") and the jumpscares arent really all that affective IMO.
I agree with all of this. But Season 2 adds more fear into you.
tbh h&h is the scariest shit I've seen, I can't even finish watching it because it scares me that bad, so I give props to battington for that. Stuff like the walten files was easier to consume for me, still scary but not enough to make me paranoid like h&h does
I think it's because I'm an easily scared shit, that H&H always gets me with it's jumpscares and also psychologically messes me up. But despite all of that, while yeah it scares me, the jumpscares in general aren't all that compelling (well, except that Jack-N-The-Box clown scare, that was fucked up). The feeling of having my hair stand on end though is what I like about this series, despite the fact that it's probably just me experiencing that.
Big agree. There's a lot to like about these series and it has some genuine effort poured into it...but I sure wish I didn't have to risk going deaf every time I watch a video. I'm fine with jumpscares if used sparsely, and I won't deny some of the ones here got me, but I'd rather get genuinely unnerved than just startled and having my ears ringing with unreasonably LOUD white noise.
It was probably the beginning of battingtons type of slow draw-in technique that increases the duration of the scare and the unsettling images being breif or vague, even that's a bit scar, but maybe just a predictable mix...
48:28 Love this comment because for me, that's what made The Walten Files so terrifying, the fact that once you remove all of the spirits and scary imagery, what you have is an alcoholic who accidentally killed two children and spiraled from there. Fantastic video, glad to see H&H being talked about!
So I have been deeply afraid of the dark since some super bad experiences as a child. As of Jan 2021, I had completely beaten it. Then I saw Gloria Greywinder. Battington is singlehandedly responsible (well i guess i am for watching it) for making me terrified of the dark again BECAUSE OF GLORIA. She's technically the good guy!!! She literally only stands there, *menacingly!* Yet, I literally slept with the lights on for like two months until I was comfortable sleeping with a night light on and my tv on, which is my current sleep set up. The design of Gloria sets off my brain, and it goes "DANGER DANGER THAT'S THE LAST THING YOU'RE GOING TO SEE BEFORE YOU GET UNALIVED IN A TERRIBLE FASHION!!" especially in the darkness. I've also had a nightmare about her.
Okay Macey/Sophia and that horrible, pink, hollow eyed version of arthur that shows up the in through broken windows haunted me too. I actually showed that weird demonic arthur to my roommate and they went "I need to forget that."
Right, that demonic arthur face is the most terrifying thing i've ever seen in any horror series, it's simple but somehow so effective
I’ve never had a problem with darkness or jumpscares or even distorted faces but what gets me 110% of the time is fucking robots. Shits scary
I have the same problem, I know how freaky it is when just a visual sets off a whole mode.
Boy: Is there anything we can do to help?
Toymaker: Yes there is...

Gloria looks the scariest when in reality she is the most peaceful and is more of a protector

The animation style of the episodes with The Toymaker, but The Toymaker's design especially, reminds me of Popee the Performer (an early CG anime that's heavy in gore, but in a slapstick, comedic way.) It's not one to one enough to know that it was an inspiration for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was an influence on those segments of the series.
I fucking adore poppy the performer . Can’t believe my mom let me watch it as a kid

@@beastmaster0934 It's surprisingly a really good show if you actually watch it. The slapstick comedy gets across well without any dialogue and the early CG, while surreal, really grows on you. It's basically Tom and Jerry with a little cartoon blood, but it does have its weird moments, especially after the third main character is introduced
Whenever I hear Martine yell at his wife or his kids, it give a sinking feeling to my stomach.
a concerning pattern I'm noticing with these analog horror breakdown videos is the lack of epilepsy warnings. I get that analog horror is just like that, but not everyone knows that and some people might come to videos like these because they want the video described to them in order to avoid triggers while consuming the media. Videos like these mostly cut out or describe the worst parts but when you take the most colorful, flashing scene and say "I'll just play it for you" (38:37) you're just asking for an either an incident or to thoroughly annoy someone who wants to know what happens and is trying not to have a seizure.

As much as we all loved the ideas and story of fnaf I feel Scott cawthon was unequipped to flesh out the kind of complex story it COULD have been i mean the man spent the first part of his career making Christian games
To be fair, you can make complex Christian games. El Shaddai: Ascension of the Mettatron comes to mind, based off a book of the Old Testament only recognized as canon in Ethiopian orthodox tradition.
The part where "We'll Meet Again" was sung gave me SO many goosebumps. I have no idea why, it was probably because I didn't expect it, and because it's one of my favorite songs, haha

"the screen does an analog horror" is going right into my vocabulary actually
ok why did the toymaker episode really strongly feel like a grizzly tales for gruesome kids episode but without the cautionary part lol. even the "i really do hope you enjoy it" sounds like the narrator. i love that show so that makes it even better haha
honestly in that show half the time the stuff the kids did wrong was the most trivial stuff on the planet and yet they get horribly maimed or killed or whatever over it so it may as well be the same lol
I swear that show was amazing,is it still on Netflix?
Season 1 in a nutshell: Martin greywinder is a failing toy maker who resorted to using satanic rituals. It works but to make more he needs more victims/1
/2 he starts by killing the family dog, then Arthur(the ice cream man),then Thomas and Macy and Gloria(the ghost lady). Eventually it’s somewhat of a hit, allowing him to kill more kids and make more toys. One night the ice cream man nearly kills Martin. Martin escapes the house and is now on the run.
Season 2 so far: someone else took martin’s place as lead manager of harmony toys(the company) and creates two new toys: magical Sofia and the fuzzy buddy. Despite being robotic, they have the homicidal tendencies as the toys do, a fuzzy buddy killed two kids and almost another until mr Stewart (he was in the rebirth tape in season 1)stops him. It’s revealed in the first episode of season two is that he has been on the case despite the police told him to stop. Martin also disguises himself as Arthur to run the company and opens a mall that has intelligent robots with springy arms
TLDR : man goes insane and his family for toys. And Satan gets his ass
51:22 holy shit i have never been more scared by any analog horror series before this as i got by watching this tape. I couldn’t stop myself from crying and the breathing sounds are so viscerally disturbing to me that i could feel my heart literally sink, i’m so disturbed

Glad to see the issues addressed! The audio still seems low in places but at nothing just cranking up my volume a bit can't fix! Will give the video another watch proper tommorow, to make sure nothing slipped through the cracks and well, because i want to!
Honestly I love the mix of horror and comedy here. It's a fresh take on the analog horror genre. You're not the first to do it but it's been awhile since someone has.
Looking at the text at 12:00 I don't think it says "rebirth you" I think it says "behind you" and with the ice cream man pointing towards you
i noticed this too lol
Definitely didn’t expect to click onto a fnaf video to immediately hear Jerma985’s teacher noise, but I can’t say I’m unhappy with it 🤣
When you're making a series inspired by FNaF that brings things back to a more spiritual aspect, you only have two directions: this series, or Willy's Wonderland
hey daggz, i love the video. this series is really close to my heart and i’m afraid you might’ve missed something or at least didn’t mention it >:)) when the warning comes up in the happy video and instructs you to pray to god, turn ur head 180 degrees, and cover your ears and eyes, it somewhat correlated to the deaths at the end of the video. richard who suffered a seizure watching his favorite show (cover eyes and ears), nathan was found with his head facing backwards (turn your head 180 degrees), the only one i can’t really connect is amy and praying to god. amy’s spine was severed, and i can’t really connect it with praying to god as a last resort unless it’s to assume her last resort and possibly her last action/words were to plead to god.
this is late, but perhaps amy was screaming out prayers as she died/was being killed? that could make sense, since the others connect. other than that, it could just be tying into the whole religion aspect
The 3rd episode says “behind you” not “rebirth you” I don’t mean for this to sound disrespectful but I just wanted to tell you
This is the only way I can "watch" this series because it's damn horrifying :')
I cannot agree more that this series is absolutely amazing! I pretty much binged the entire thing after seeing Matpat react to the first couple of episodes. Not to spoil anything for season two, but the second episode had me crying, man. 🎭🐶
My favourite analogue horror series is Gemini Home Entertainment, it just feels so cool. It even comes with its own, fully playable video game, which ties into the lore!
i tried getting into this series and bear in mind i can put up with a good scare but there were just a few too many well built up to yet loud, long and screamy jumpscares (at least in the start idk about later) leading me to quit watching, but it so far seems like a cool story
I can understand that. I typically watch more analog horror stuff because there’s not that many jump scares, but the loud noises feel the same. I usually just lower the volume before the event happens.
Same here the only difference being I never quit watching them because of it. I can safely say that he does less and less of those as the series went on.
Does no one get the part where the kid said I was dreaming of a man dressed in red with ice cream cones on his head
OMG 😱 I just realized what that means! Nooo! That’s Satan’s description from a child’s point of view.
38:14 And this, is when Martin truly became Heisenberg.
37:07 actually this is a base64 code! it translates to "Don't you want to be happy" which honestly ties well into the whole thing with martin making them "happy" by stuffing his family members into toys (cuz yk, toys are happy, fun etc.)
I genuinely appreciate the use of cry of fear music. I love that soundtrack
14:00 I fucking love this, whenever I first saw this I personally couldn’t sleep for 2 nights, I have no clue why it scares me so much.
I tried getting into the series, but the intense audio spikes in the jumpscares felt really cheap. Lowering the volume made things worse because it's hard to follow a story where the story-relevant audio is so heckin quiet
harmony&horror is a series i could rewatch 100 times and still find scary asf
maybe my mind is just twisted and fucked up but this has to be one of funniest yet creepiest analog horror I have ever came across on 😂
Nah man, I get it.
Henry: look to the right of you
*triple face demon jumpscare*
Thank you for the audio fix, now I can finish watching this video and be able to hear it way better
there was another video talking about analog horror with a small section about harmony and horror. there were several comments about it being "tryhard" with the sound. though i can sometimes compare the loud sounds with flashing lights and jumpscares.
personally i like it! find the visuals extremely impressive. though there are some complaints here and there. i find it extremely underrated.
There are a few moments in the video where audio volume increases for a long time but then drops. It's a little awkward having to adjust volume during the viewing. Example of it at 34:13, after the Bonzo clip the next segment is noticably quieter. That's it though, other than that the editing is solid
This is incredibly underrated, in fact this is the first analog horror series ever to genuinely keep me scared the whole time. I am incredibly impressed honestly.
my favorite moment in the series is when the Sophia doll face starts to come closer to the camera while "you belong to me" plays on the background, also, gloria's face is really scary, i can't look to her withou getting chills
Welp, guess I won't sleep tonight
Seriously, the scene with Arthur talking through the Ice cream man i terrifying, but almost horrifically beautiful. His spirit lives on and persists even though his situation is the worst in can be. He is in hell and still has hope that his family will hear his words. But maybe that's just me
I'm more confused on why no one has brought up the age of Amy Willson. Her picture depicts, on what could be a child, but her age speaks otherwise. 21 years of age, thats a whole adult.
One of battingtons’s tapes legit shook me to the core. I had to listen to relaxing music for a couple weeks since I was scared I would have nightmares-
arthur's final dialogue gave me more chills than the rest of this entire video. it genuinely made me wanna cry. :(
6:33 hey wait a second its past 6 am, why the hell are the doll's still trying to give me heart attacks? - the dude with the camera

@@GarfieldEnjoyer1878 that would be pretty funny i believe
i appreciate the funny jockers in this video :) rlly brings a lighthearted mood to a spooky video
My problem with most horror things in general is that most of these depend on jump scares and also considering how people can see horror nowadays
Makes sense! Jumpscares are only really good, if they're used sparingly, and even better, if the thing acts logically, if it's a living thing, you would expect it to attack how that living thing would, a dog would lunge and attack with tooth and fang, and you wouldn't expect it to randomly swing at you, and you're dead. Or Jitter uncontrollably. And you'd expect a possessed and intelligent robot not to kill while rattling and jumping around. What's that supposed to do? Jiggle you to death?
You did a great job figuring out what's really going on. The non-canon Christmas special basically confirmed thet Martin is the husband of Gloria and father of Thomas, Macy, and Ava.
There was no evidence that the dlg belonged to the family, in fact a video in season 2 showed how Martin got the dog corpse for his experiment (it ran right in front of his car). Here's some details you probably wanted to hear:
- Its possible that the dog may of belong to the victims of the broadcast incident, as in the same video where we learn of how Martin got Bonzo, we sees hints about the two kids that died from the program, as we hear about the owner of the Arcade next door who suspected Martin was up to no good and revealed that Martin dealt with his victims while dressed as a clown (much like William used a Bunny suit to lure kids away).
- Martin's first victim was his assistant who the police officer interviewed him about. Her "empty skin" was seen in the cartoon.
- In the videos where Henry kills Martin, its inplied that as Macy was being killed and he begins reawakening her in the doll, Thomas (in the Henry Doll) skittered to where his uncle was locked up in and freed him in hopes of saving his sister.
- people assumed that Arthur was the one who saw Bonzo and got attacked. It's theorized that he learned about what Martin did with the dog from Gloria, who told Arthur as Martin's abuse of his wife and kids pushed her to Arthur (implied lovd affair)
I'm gonna keep it 100, I think the "my daddy loves me" poem sequence is just so utterly goofy. It comes off so forced (adding an unnecessary "though" just to rhyme with "so"). When I first watched the series that was the moment that made me drop it. If they wanted to do a creepy poem they could've made it at least slightly more subtle, or they could've just had this doll thing talk normally about the horrifying abuse.
Really happy to see someone finally give this series love. I only ever seen one video about it way back when it came out when I discovered it.
Although I do wish you didn't keep the sounds for the jumpscares. Its not fun watching a video like this and never knowing when its safe. Like, I'm here for the comedy and talk about it, not to get scared. If I wanted it, I would've watched it again on my own.
This is a great video, it needs to get more attention, well done sir.
so far i'm enjoying the video, everything except the volume levels. holy shit your voice is set to 2% of the insanely high volume jumpscares that you include directly after you talk LOL
I was a little confused during the bonzo scene. I was listen and not watching. I thought my Spotify cut on and started playing Xavier Wulf. I kept waiting for the beat to drop. Great video, you got a new sub.
I think tape 8 takes pov from the clown, which is why he's always in the background. He's in the reflection

I'm sorry I have no idea how you got rebirth out of that. It's just 'behind you' /Lighthearted
Very very good video! One thing I wanted to mention is that you kept mixing up the words throughout the video. One’s discography is their library of *musical* releases (think “disco”) while the word you meant to use was filmography or videography, which is a collection of an actor director or producer’s video work.
I love analog horror and the harmonies and horror so it’s cool to se you talk about it 👍
I know the video is 6 months old and someone likely said it already, but 12:02 it clearly says "behind you" not "rebirth you", the ice cream cone is clearly pointing at the screen, behind the camera.
37:07
The title is actually encoded in Base 64
Decoding it gives the result:
"Don't you want to be happy"
That Arther one where it’s just him speaking os the one that by far got me the most, the ammount of pain his voice sounds like it’s in hurts my soul
As much as I like this series, I can't help but be confused by the series of events in it, chronologically speaking. Martin alludes to having killed his family before killing Arthur, but uses the Arthur Icecream Man to kill Thomas, who then alerts Gloria to his disappearance, leading to her death. Either Martin initially lied to Arthur in the beginning or it was a mix up on Battington's end.
I absolutely love your sense of comedy, I’ll stick around and look at your other content.
…Mr. White why is she killing the dog, she isn’t killing the dog Jesse I am-

The worst thing was in a Christmas special I think, when the little sister, a baby, is crying uncontrolably, and the girl can't find her
I have tiny people in my life, that part was pure distress and horror for me, and seeing what actually happened to the baby made it even worse
I understand how you feel that shit had me sleepless cuz of the damn Gloria ghost and that fucking song about the family playing had me shaking
I'm very happy that someone made a video about this series :D
It’s always the business partners who gets into trouble
So basically this series is about a man who meddles with demonic rituals and suffers the consequences.
