You deserve an A for effort, but definitely get a copy of the Factory Workshop Manual (what is called “The Big Green Book” or BGB) and you’ll have an easier time of it. The buckets around the valve springs allow for the different size shims, which is how you set the correct valve to cam gaps. That’s where the real fun starts!
The comment might be late, but the head was designed by Yamaha. Actually looks kind of similar to the old motocross bikes Yamaha had. The used on the top of the valve something called pill which help prevent damage onnthe valve due to high rpm, and repent gear changes because of drifting. Actually the "pill" is just a pill shape object made from magnesium or a similar material
These "First-Gen" MR2'2 where "Little Rocket Ships, but they lacked "Sufficient Weight" over the Front Suspension... I had one for 7.5years, untill I took a Corner too Fast on Wet Wet Asphalt, and Totalled the Front Subframe.😿
Hi, I have a red Corolla GTS coupe, with a 4A-GE engine. I brought the car brand new in Germany 🇩🇪 while serving in the military. It runs and I would love to have my engine rebuilt as well. There’s about 230,000 miles, I would love for you to rebuild my engine, would you be interested?
Be prepared...lots of time lapses!
This makes me want to rebuild mine in my aw11, Nice music
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing! I will be removing the engine from my wife's MR2 and installing a rebuilt unit in a few months.
what a relief, first startup sounded ROUGH dayum
My Daughter ABSOLUTELY loves your Video "Background Music" & so do I!
Haven't seen any Video's from you lately and was getting VERY WORRIED...
Thank you for sharing this Video Story of the 1986 Toyota MR2 Engine Rebuild!
This makes me want to rebuild the 4age in the my ae86 (mostly to kill time before figuring out how to fix body rust)
with you there mate, my ae92 has some cunningly placed "air vents"in the boot, but hidden behind the rear bumper
Nice job man!

I have a manual but it didn’t go over the shims, I just reassembled the head how it was taken apart without changing anything.
Very beautiful job man. What things did you do to the machine shop? Any lightening or balancing or anythings else? Thanks a lot keep going ✌️✌️✌️
4ag ftw!
Thanks for the vid. Do you know where i can get the parts to rebuild my 85? There's kits on ebay but am not sure about them.

Great example of Toyota's contribution to society philosophy: "lift hooks on the head"
U know if you can clean the engine bay with out all those emissions or what? I'm about to do a rebuild and was wondering if you did and deletes?
What did you use to clean the block where the head goes so well?
A sharpening stone with wd-40 to get it as flat as possible, then just brake cleaner
Right. You had a manual. Didn’t see you check the valve lash. ?
Are those oem pistons? I've never seen bigport pistons that style. Cool vid btw!

How long did the rebuild take once the engine was out if the car
I had to wait on parts a couple times. But probably only a couple actual days over the course of a couple months
Sounds like a new car
so fucking sick!
Pretty sure those were 4afe pistons, motor would've been pretty low compression.
Really like the music. Do you perhaps remember the title of the rebuild manual you used? I’m in desperate need of one :)
I'm having a hard time doing mine wish I know how to rebuild it or know someone lol
Sent 👌🏻
Where did you get the gaskets?
eBay if I remember correctly
hey, do you have all the torque specs? we are rebuilding one too.
You can find scans of the original manuals online
And we never heard of or saw the car again
Got it running and enjoyed it for a year then sold it
@@Milehighkei We’re did you get the rebuild manual I have been trying to get one
I sadly blew my connecting rod down my block so I'm on a hunt for a new block. :(
