- My 1,945th kite video. With our NZ summer continuing to provide very few opportunities to fly, I offer instead a look at some of the many kites that Peter Dennehy has built with his self-taught skills in the past seven years. His creations have added greatly to the kite scene here in Christchurch, and no doubt there will be more ideas still to come.

Great idea to collect all Peter's kites together in one video. Its easy to forget how creative and busy he has been making and flying his creations. I hope he has a few more ideas for 2023. Hope to see some on my next visit.
I hope the three of us will get a chance to fly together at least once or twice during your visit, Carl. You might need to bring some good weather with you, as it's in short supply here.

With all the kite companies either out of business or unable to restock certaint kites its a pleasure to see an artist at work. Thank you for showing what you have, and keep the videos coming... always a treat to watch when weather for many of us is unfavorable.
Weather here is largely unfavourable too, Mark, despite the fact that it's supposed to be summer. That's why I made this compilation of Peter's kites, to remind us of times when the conditions actually allowed us to fly regularly.

Good to hear from you, Carsten. Our weather is grey too, at the moment, and our summer has been far too windy so far. I hope things will improve soon. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your wonderful designs in the future. The Starlight and Kaleido were definitely my favourite kites of 2022. I don't know if I'll ever reach 2,000 videos, but I'll try to keep them coming for a while.

He certainly is. I've only ever made one kite, and it was pretty basic.
Peter is an inspiration to everyone interested in kites, he has a great artistic eye and a talent for design, always a joy to see a new creation appear.
He's probably working on something right now, Colin. It's usually a surprise when he turns up with something new, and always a good one.
Incredible designs, skill in building them, and amazing videography in documenting these exquisite, unique and graceful kites! You two are a wonderful “dynamic duo” in kiting!!! Thank you both so much for sharing your talents with the world!
Having Peter join me on the beach with his creations has certainly made flying more interesting, Mary, and his kites are very popular.
Brilliant kites. Peter sounds like me in that 'fussy, time consuming to assemble' kites don't get seen so often.

Our summer has been mainly either grey days or strong, gusty winds that are not fit to fly in. I have almost given up flying, but there's still time for things to improve.

It's certainly a nice kite. I have a somewhat similar Chinese-made one, but it has been out of action for most of the time I've had it because of one problem or another.
A great collection of selfmade kites.Peter is playing in the Champions league of kite builders.I think Jim and Peter together a great team.

I love Peter's "wrong turning" spin socks. They're the second ones I've seen, almost 30 years after I made my 3m sock (circa 1992). 98% of people ("normal" or kite flyers) don't see that they are turning in the "wrong" direction 😉
Peter deliberately made his spinners to rotate in opposite directions, of course. My friend Graham Vaughan in England did the same with some spinsocks that he made for me, and that I've shown often.

I have to get back in it Jim , cold Winter & lack of motivation caused me neglect some building plans I had . All is not lost , I still have three months before our first festival.
I hope your plans work out and you are fully prepared by the time the festival date arrives.

I really like the parafoil at 03:24, as well as the others, but the graphics are pretty cool on the foil kite!

Peter only makes kites for himself, and not very often now. He doesn't sell any.
