- My 1,903rd kite video. Spinning box kites are quite common, but here are a few rather different spinners.
Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz .
This may be your only video that has almost put me to sleep. For a long time I was never aware of spinning kites till I saw yours.
With your tendency to vertigo, Carl, I don't recommend watching the Psychedelikite too much!
Jim, maybe a video one day of how you got into kiting, what triggered the addiction and what your first proper kite was.
It's not a particularly interesting tale, David, but I might do something sometime.
Brasington designs never fail to amaze me :)
He's a smart guy, Amy, and it's amazing how many different designs he's come up with.
Hi Jim,
Just 'discovered' your channel ! Fantastic content. Going to keep me occupied for hours. Been into kites since making a Will Yolen Soaring Delta at age 14 from a plan. Now 63 and still have that kite amongst many others.
Many thanks and keep 'em coming !
Welcome to the channel. Only another 1,900 videos to go! You should have many more years of flying ahead of you. I'll be 82 in two weeks, so maybe not so long to go.
Amazing spinner kites - they are certainly eye catching if not durable.
Durability is quite important to me, Jim - I don't like having to throw away a kite that should have lasted a lot longer.
Definitely some unique items there Jim.
It's good to fly something a little different sometimes, Ken, but I wouldn't recommend the Roto Kite to anyone as it's just too fragile.
A very interesting video to watch...so different.
Glad you enjoyed it, Jim. I like to vary things a little, and these spinning kites, although not among my favourites, are interesting to fly and to watch.
Brilliant video Jim. Great music too..
Thanks, Tony. Looking forward to a chat soon. And maybe a visit before too long.
I have a kite to which great sentimental value is attached for reasons I won't go into, and I fly it only rarely, when I'm sure the wind conditions won't further damage it. But at some point it will collapse like a cymbal crash as the drummer tumbles off his platform into the audience. That will be a day both lamentable and memorable.
All good things come to an end, I guess, but I prefer kites that are strongly built to last through a lot of flying, not like the Roto Kite I showed here.
Very cool Jim. I have never seen those spinning kites. Ron
I've shown them all before, Ron, but not all together. They are interesting novelties, but I don't fly them often.
I laughed hard to what happened at 1:40.
The Spinning Janny was quite repulsive, but I was expecting that Psychedelikite would be devoured by it!
And, you forgot to include Flip Kite and Spinning Jewel!
Anyway, great video as always. 😉
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sir, you have a lot of moths, I like it very much, thank you for sharing the video.
I have too many kites, Vikram, but I am not clever like you so I have to buy all my kites, not make them.
very nice jim
Thank you, Ayon! I hope you're having a lot of fun with your kites.
I was just thinking with this nice breeze I'm having today that my good friend Jim would be also be out and about as well flying some of his magnificent kites. Also I was flying the very same WindNSun Rotor Box kite today as well. Its a great inexpensive rotor kite!
I fly at every opportunity, Armando, as I think you know. That box kite is certainly great value, and I like the feature that has all the spars fixed in a way that means you can't lose them. Similar kites with loose spars can be very annoying - if one of those little spars is dropped on the beach, it usually disappears into the sand and is never seen again.
Nice video Jim. Spinning kites are cool. Thanks Jim!
These kites are certainly fun, Dewey, although not something that I fly very often. The fragility of the Roto Kite is disappointing, as the concept is quite clever.
Excellent, not seen some of those before. Very effective display. Great video Jim.
Thanks, David. I have shown them all before, but not all together.
Felicitaciones. Mí saludo cordial desde mi ciudad Manizales Colombia.
Hello, Miguel. I'm glad that you enjoy watching my kites. I didn't make them, as I am not clever enough, and I just buy all my kites. So I cannot show how they are made, unfortunately.
So fascinating:)
Why aren't you out flying that kite, Abby?
Jim, I hope you could tell us more about the kite, where to buy it, what is the name of it, and the price range at least. Great video !
Hi Elaine. I'm pretty sure I gave the names of the kites in this video, as I usually do.
I've given more details of these kites in previous videos of each of them, and I always try to give such information when I first introduce the kite. You can probably find those videos easily on my channel, or a Google search would certainly find more about those kites and sources/prices. I can't repeat such details every time I fly a kite, or it would all become quite boring for me and the viewers. I fly, and make videos, for fun, rather than to act as an unpaid promoter for kite manufacturers, although they do certainly benefit from my videos. My website also carries reviews of kites and information on good sources, but I haven't updated it for quite a while so later kites are not shown.
I think me next instalment of pocket money goes to that spinning kite from Wind`n`sun
It's good value. I like the fact that the spars are secured in a way that means it's hard to lose any, unlike most similar revolving kites.
Hey Jim where is the big rotary kite similar to the X-Kites/WindNsun? I saw the title and was expecting to see it. Thanks for the post.
My very big spinning box (and the one that Peter built) will probably be seen sometime soon, depending on weather conditions and what else we want to fly. They would have looked a bit out of place with these smaller kites, I think.
Wooooooow !
I guess you liked it, Nara? I hope all's well across the Tasman.
Esses pipas giratórios são verdadeiros?
hi Jim Nicholls where did you buy the kite
I live in New Zealand, where there are no kite stores. I buy mostly from America, usually www.pictureprettykites.com , or from China via AliExpress where there are many sellers with a wide variety of kites.
Where can I find one
You can find the Roto Kite here: www.pictureprettykites.com/single-line-kites/red-yellow-roto-kite/ . I don't know any source for the other one at the moment. They are rather fragile and I wouldn't give them a strong recommendation.
