For Profit Prison are dangerous on many levels. There's a financial incentive to incarcerating people, especially if politicians happen to have a financial interest in the prison, leading to laws designed to hoover people up. I'll never forget this Anatole France quote

the problem with private prisons is the shareholders are incentivized to lobby for tougher sentences to guarantee a steady flow of "product". the reason Oklahoma prison pops are declining are due to electronic monitoring is now the new cash cow, now lobbyist that own stock in the monitoring companies are pushing for more ankle monitors. ankle monitor use has gone up 5000% in last 5 years, every bond now gets one, and every moniotor is owned by private companies charging 300 plus a month

private prisons are way better because they actually have heating and air and they give you fresh boxers and socks and shirts. State has no heating and air and they give you used boxers and socks and shirts and also, privates aren't any more dangerous than state. Also, the state gives your worse food and beans the majority of the week. Privates have better food and less beans. Lawton gets rough but it's no more rougher than the other yards. I Iive in okc and the DOC is so terrible. Oklahoma county is the worst! The amount of inmate deaths a year is very concerning. The prisons and jails here filthy way worse then you could imagine. Oklahoma county is shutting down and they have been trying to find a new place for it. No one wants it near them. You should look into the complaints and investigations at the county jail. They have bed bugs, no water, no heat, no air, contraband galore, the CO on inmate abuse is extremely high! It’s absolutely vile! Nice that someone is bringing light to this I’ve never even heard about it.

It’s hard to find people to do this job because they ARE always short staffed. I worked as an officer in the private/federal sister prison to this one for 3 1/2 years and we were always short but we would immediately get canned if we didn’t make our rounds. This prison in particular just got shipped the worst of the worst that was at hinton(the one I worked at last year for 6 months as a nurse and prior to state owning it for 3 1/2 yrs.) even as a nurse I saw the security being short and I was scared working there. I saw some extremely messed up stuff and honestly a majority of the officers were scared too because there was NO limits these guys wouldn’t go to.

I worked in a private prison for 4 years until i was hired by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, i can say first hand private prisons care about profit ONLY. If someone calls off sick? They go short staff, where other prisons offer overtime to fill the spot. And if nobody volunteers for the O.T. they MANDATED someone at the bottom of the seniority list! But private prisons will pull an officer from medical, so medical goes short etc, etc.

A good friend of mine's son 'committed unalive' in a super suspicious way in a PA county jail. The investigation lasted like 8 hours and they closed the case, I can't give too many details but there was a note, however it's unclear if he was the one who wrote it and he was unsupervised for over 12 hours before anyone realized. The jail took 2 days to call his mom and already closed the case by he time they called mom. It's a systemic problem at its core, and hardly anyone cares. It's so disheartening to hear it isn't isolated and happening every day, everywhere.

There will always be blind spots from cameras. Inmates learn and see any patterns. They do anything bad where they wont get caught or found. Its not as easy as sticking in cameras

Staff gets lazy because they stop caring. They get too comfortable. And the inmates took advantage. Unless they were told to turn the other way that night. Either way, it sounds like the staff is in trouble. Don't. Get. Comfortable.

Lack of staff does not justify lazy staff. There is no excuse for not making rounds. The counts were obviously falsified. The next big question is how many assaults and falsified documents have been passed and certified.

I was in southwest Virginia regional jail Abingdon facility multiple times. Private prisons/jails are sketchy in general. In most places if you get doc time (more than a year) you go to receiving at most a month after you are sentenced. In the regional jails they keep ppl 2 or more years. I'm not talking about ppl fighting trial either. Regular sentenced inmates stay 18 to 26mths on average so they can get that state check longer. When I was on outside trusty duty one of the sheriff's broke down how the regional came to be. Basically the prison company comes to town and says well build a facility no charge. All you have to do is agree to a minimum occupancy rate. They say they will even handle transport and well charge less per inmate than you pay now. A lot of these small coal country counties only had 50 beds sometimes less in their county jail. So when oxy hit judges were handicapped on how they could sentence ppl cause there just wasn't room in the jail. So the in their minds the min occupancy requirement helped them and didn't outwardly seem as sinister. The jail company also had good timing. Because of the oxy and pill problem many poor counties were facing having to expand or build new jails they couldn't afford. So at the time I guess it seemed win win win. All these counties had shrinking population and tax base. So this freed up officers that would normally be involved in transporting and housing inmates. As time went on, it was found that these places actually cost the same or more per inmate. Especially when they are kept in jail so long.
As for the inmate experience, it was like being in a bad prison. There was much less oversight. There were dudes getting with punks, the place was flooded with tobacco, suboxone, and spice. Ppl getting drunk on hooch and seriously injuring others was common. I personally witnessed a dudes leg getting split like a spare rib. It was treacherous. The food was better when it first opened but was horrible a few years later. We even had a full scale riot one time. The jail staff couldn't handle it. They called in every cop from a 4 county area. 30 real cops, 3 hrs, and tear gas being dropped from the ceiling finally quelled the riot.

I think most guys like to think that if they went to prison they could avoid getting hogtied and stabbed to death by minding their business and staying out the way. But some of these prisoners are straight up maniacs and there are times when no matter how hard you try to avoid it, trouble has a way of finding you.

Short staffed does not mean there aren't enough staff present in the facility. It means CO's are forced into working multiple 16 hour shifts per week. When you work 16 hours at a clip, performance decreases. When you work with an exhausting population for 16 hrs at a clip, you're not in a good place. I agree PVT prisons are mainly trash and State run is better.

  • @Keeper_91

The problem with a private prison is no matter what they put on paper as long as that unit passes accreditation everything else is secondary. Buff the floors, clean the kitchen, sweep the corners and once the inspection is over it’s back to business as usual. If you can fool the state and feds over a week or so the rest of the time could be hell and no one bats an eye.

Private prisons are owned by a large number of investors that pooled their money together to build the prison. They contract through the state to house inmates and get paid a certain amount of money per inmate, also I know they get paid more to house higher risk inmates like psych inmates and such. Keeping the beds full is the name of the game, building more prisons and filling them up for profit ( something not right about that to me) they are governed by the state and have all the same restrictions and guidelines as state, standard operating procedures are the same...

I’m so happy I found your channel. My name is Val. I also have a channel but no where near your followers. I was a a tv show called Born different. it was a short documentary about my life living with cerebral palsy. It is now over 10 million things on Facebook. It talks about my real estate career being a mommy of three and a wife. I never expected so many amazing people to reach out. So because of that, I started my own channel, but it didn’t excel the way I was hoping, lol now I have started a channel that I truly love and it’s not based around cerebral palsy. In fact, I don’t even really talk about it much because I’m so used to it but it’s all about crime jail courthouse everything you do lol I would love to work with you someday.
