Man, I love Abzu. I bought it on PC, and then Switch so I could always have it with me. I disagree with your title tho - you didn't really go into how it plays on your fears, but you did talk about how beautiful and relaxing it is 😆 It's like an anti-anxiety tool for me, but even so I can see how it's spooky in a lot of places. Not scary, more... giving me that uneasy feeling like walking through an abandoned house. Even beyond the aesthetic, you see those red jars everywhere, and then learn what they were for, and what you're up against.
Thank you for checking out the video, I guess it's ABZUs subversion tackling people's fear of the unknown and my personal fear of the ocean. Had know idea I could find such peace in the place I was found terrifying
I didn't see it as a scary experience at all. Maybe I didn't play through it properly, but I saw it as a beautiful experience
Oh, it absolutely is. It subverts the players expectations of the unknown perfectly. The unknown being a big fear for a lot of people, myself included.
I adore this game. Not gonna lie, it terrified me at times the first time I played it. I remember being scared stiff to swim into the open ocean after the shark jumpscare, but I was diving to the bottom and leaping back up from the surface and back down again before I knew it!
It truly is something special, I didn't think I'd finish it because of that fear. Now I'm making videos about it haha.

This has been on my wishlist forever and now I feel like I have to give it a try. I was half expecting a comment on Subnautica but loved all the examples!
