I think when ARMS was getting updates everyone was expecting a big shake up to drop in one of them, like how Splatoon introduced new modes stages and weapons. Love both ARMS and Splatoon but ARMS needed its own Octo Expansion or heck just the graphic novel series that never released would have really helped boost ARMS popularity.

Love Splatoon 2 but can’t forgive it for cutting ARMS off at the legs. ARMS is so much fun and would love to see a sequel to see how the game could be expanded
Honestly only one could’ve survived, if splatoon didn’t get its successful sequel, it would’ve remained as a cool little wii u exclusive

My favorite part is that ARMS takes inspiration from Capoeira, a martial art that’s very dance-like and free flowing. It’s also where they get their music from.

Everything about this game reeks of a long running future but it just got screwed over i adore this games lore so much and really makes me think where they were going with the story of this game

Aww, yeah, I agree ^^' It's sad and bittersweet, you can really feel the huge amount of love and passion that went into ARMS as a whole, especially the world and characters, in my opinion! I also really love that you can actually still find fairly many people online, which is really cool, even over, like, 3 (or probably more) years after the last content update!

A really cool detail is that the girl who plays ribbon girl is the one doing some of the vocals and its an actual singer they hired which really blows my mind. i love that game so much ❤ (its the reason i wanted the switch 😅)

YES ARMS WAS AMAZING, still one of my favorites. So many people slept on this game. It felt so polished, even in modern VR havent found a game that does motion controls like this did.
A constantly rewarding game. I just kept figuring out new techniques and unlocking stuff!
It was fun trying both control schemes too.
Also, ARMS reminds me of Anarchy Reigns.
A weird seemingly simple quirky unique fighting beat-em-up with multiple game types, stage hazards, and tons of style that got overlooked.
Fun fact. there are alternate costumes (its just color changes) if i remember correctly you click L3(or R3) and hold a direction before selecting the character

If ARMS never comes back, at least it gave us great music to enjoy forever.
Ever since I played the game way back in 2017, I fell in love with it. Everything about it screams "standing out". Everything about it makes it different from other fighting games. As someone who likes seeing a brand new IP, I wish for it to have a future. I also really enjoyed playing Min Min in Smash, and it makes me happy that the game got representation there.
Honestly ARMS Is Such A Fun Game, Concept, And World As A Whole, All The Lore And Story Behind Each Character And How Their Arms Actually Work Is So So Cool, All The Characters Are Super Unique And Colorful, They All Have Amazing Personalities Showcased By Their Outfits And Their Arms Themselves. AMRS Is Extremely Underrated And As Much As I Love Splatoon, It Really Did Just Overshadowed ARMS Once It Released, Really Hoping We Can Get An ARMS Sequel Some Say Soon! Especially Because Of The Music, THE MUSIC IS SO SO GOOD TOO!
Also, A Little Addition You May Have Missed, Try Beating Grand Prix On The Max Difficulty, There's Another Surprise There As Well! 😉

Me and my cousin are HUGE fans of this game! So glad you’re talking about it 😭 we play it every time we meet up. The lore sounds really interesting with the lab, dc Coyle and all, we really wished they would’ve continued with it, with maybe a story mode or webcomic..
Arms was so peak nintendo poured their heart and soul into every single aspect of it and if they dont make a sequel i will riot in the streets
arms was especially goated BC it had its own way to hold the controllers
Arms was perfect in a way. balance, concept, characters, lore, music, game design everything.
The only thing it lacked was content to keep the people on the game
Used to be active in a server that held ARMS events regularly, I have a lot of good memories with it and those events
Finally, its been long enough that arms is an underrated hidden gem that everyone slept on and not just a game that only I like
I keep seeing more ARMS videos on my recommended and it reminded me of when it came out, and god do I have a smile on my face. I played it since launch but stopped for years, played competitively for a while and took part in online tournaments. Even so im glad people are looking at it now. It really is a great game!
Arms is an underrated gem I love this game
I'm happy to see more people appreciate ARMS. I bought it late 2018 or early 2019, dont remember, but i loved it. The only reason i waited that long was because i had heard it wasnt popular. It was the number 1 game i was watching during the switch launch cycle, though. After playing it and remembering it through this video, ARMS needs a sequel even if only for its music.

5:49 technically there ARE alternate costumes (by playing 2 or more of the same character or when in character select, press down on the left stick and hold it left right or down, then select the character), but the game never tells you that, so I guess not

this video actually made me dig out my copy of ARMS and play it again and even though it was 7 years ago, i felt nostalgic for this game since this legit was my first switch game

Also, fun fact! by clicking in the left joystick and tilting it left, down or right when selecting a character, you can access the alt costumes that you see when there are multiple of one fighter! That's how you'll see a lot of tournament players using other costumes like Mechanica with a pink mech for example

Unlike everyone here I'm not a big Splatoon fan despite my fans trying to get me into it but ARMS? was my jam!! I sadly came in at the end when it was slowly fading out but I enjoyed the gameplay the characters and lore. I really wish Nintendo hadn't given up on the series or it's cut web novel because honestly arms had a lot of potential. And I wish we could have it back id greet it with open ARMS
I really love this game, I remember seeing all the trailers for it and getting hyped for it even though I couldnt afford it, but my parents got it for my birthday and it became my second most played after Splat2.
I remember I got around the same time they introduced the random Springtron boss battle on the GP if you got a Perfect on 7 and above.
I just remember seeing Dr. Coyle get announced in a direct after the next DLC Smash character was confirmed to be from ARMS and thinking Coyle _was_ the Smash character
I've never seen ARMS it looks sick actually 10/10

MAN I forgot how good this game looked! This game was why I got the Switch. LOVED the character designs. I wound up maining Twintelle because of her mobility. Her special ability is if you hold the dash button, she slows down time around her...but heck with that! Dash, then jump, then air-dash, hold dash, release! Dash-Jump-Dash-Charge-Dash! Covers a TON of ground quickly!
As a further sidenote, the game did release kinda unfinished. Bunch of characters and stages and stuff were released post launch with the last one being Dr.Coil who I kinda wish I was good with. She SHOULD be some kind of boss character but sadly due to her late addition, she isn't...which kinda makes the idea of a sequel even MORE enticing.
OH YEAH! And I totally forgot about how the guy behind this game was good at it, with motion controls, and would show up at Japanese tournaments for the game. He was awesome.

ARMS will always hold a special place in my heart. I didn’t get it until like 2019 or 2020, way after it finished receiving updates, but by god I have sunk so much time into it.
I spent countless nights on my sister’s profile unlocking all of the Arms for Dr. Coyle, and when I finally made my own profile I went back and basically did it again (only missing two arms now, I think)
Not exactly related but I really love the game’s medal system, it’s pretty unique. The one you get for defeating Springtron and then completing the Grand Prix as him (or vice versa, in my situation) is my favorite

Im a huge splatoon fan and im glad that octo expansion vrought a ton more love to splat 2, but arms is a hodden gem and deserves way more.

2 week late but you're sooooo right for mentioning the control schemes !
Joycon mode had that feeling of immersion AND control as it was easy to launch your arms in wildly different directions when using it.
Meanwhile Pro controller mode allowed for more focused and longer game sessions. With its comfort, I was playing ARMS all day when more than 3h of Joycon mode was my limit.
Really a gem of a game, still begging for ARMS 2 as I think it has everything it needs to go hard (maybe for the Switch2 or whatever will it be)

ARMS was such a fun alternative fighting game. It has such a fun core gameplay loop with how each character moves through the stage allow for some arms to shine more than others. I just wish that half of the statues effects didn't feel the same as a stun or a knock down.
I love arms. I bought two copies recently to get friends to play with me. Not everyone welcomed it with open arms and one guy spammed, won three games in a row and thought the game sucked and didn't touch it again. We kept playing, growing and when we begged him to play it again with us he couldn't beat anyone cause we got better. That was a big boost to morale and we got a regular group of four who play together once a month.
I remember going to visit with my mother in the mountains for a few weeks (it was in early 2020 so you could guess why I'd be going someplace remote even with no internet access) and an ARMS rep was announced for Smash. Nintendo had announced a free trial of ARMS and I downloaded it to my Switch before going and had a lot of fun with it before going to bed each night. So many people I had heard go "No one has ever heard of ARMS" and I was just... "Did nobody else check out the limited time free trial?"
I love ARMS and eagerly await a sequel. I'll admit I haven't touched it in years, it's definitely one of those games where if I think about it I'll say "if I wasn't playing (insert game), I'd be playing ARMS." If Nintendo released an ARMS 2 I'd be on it immediately.
I remember back when the switch came out. 2 months of only having Zelda and the free Splatoon 2 demos and Arm's demos. I loved the ARM's demos so I pre-ordered the game and picked it up at launch. I love the game a lot. I remember grinding to get all the arms for every character and then grinding to get the plus versions of all the arms. Then every time a new character came out I would get back on and grind the arms for that character. My favorite character is Lola pop. I love her special ability. This is her ability from the wiki. (Lola Pop is able to inflate her body while shielding, which appears to provide added defense[2] and allow her to slowly move around the stage while blocking. While inflated, she can immediately cancel into a fast dash or high jump. She can also inflate in the air while holding dash, causing her to shield herself for a short moment before dropping quickly and bouncing on the ground. She can chain these bounces to change position while retaining charge. This also helps her keep a defensive position while moving, because Lola cannot move from side to side when guarding normally.) I would block and then high jump into a grab while their arms are still in attack animation. It would get me an easy grab. It worked so well playing online. At least when she first came out. Idk how it would work now. I'm sure people know how to counter it now. I remember back when it came out a lot of my friends picked it up as well. We would play together all the time. As far as I know out of all my friends, I'm the only one that has all the arms. Once other games started to come out for the switch they slowly lost interest in Arms, but I never did. if they ever make an Arms 2 I will pre-order it and get it on day one. After watching this I'll have to pop it back in and give it a go.

This was a great video. If you can, try playing the Grand Prix on LV6 or 7. There's still one more secret left to unlock if you didn't know about it yet.

I love how there is still an active community even for a game that overlapped with Splatoon 2, we really need a sequel for this game.
I'm no life long fan but ARMS is a absolute masterpiece of a game. ARMS 2 BABY. Ps this has one of my fav osts and the smash remix of the main menu is my favourite song of all time.
I’m really glad you checked out ARMS, easily one of my favourite Nintendo franchises. There was going to be an ARMS comic by Dark Horse going into the lore of the world but that sadly got cancelled.

ARMS I adored day one, although I got the game in 2021 I still adore its world, characters and story (I honestly wish there was more of it) I hope Nintendo sees our crys and give us the sequal it deserves because I cant see myself getting out of this game I hold near and dear to my heart. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks ARMS is serverly underrated
There are alternative costumes, by holding down left d-pad and turning it up, down, left or right and pressing A, you get a different color for your character
You should definitely replay Grand Pris on one of the two highest difficulties! Don't wanna spoil anything, but after a specific update there were some additions being made there ;)

Btw, were you able to face up against Springtron? I think he only appears if you are able to make it through the Grand Prix without losing a single round on difficulty 4 or higher. If you loose, you also can't redo the fight - kinda like Dural in Virtua Fighter 5.

i have played ARMS one time at a friends house in 2018ish. coincidentally, it was also the same day i tried splatoon for the first time.
the result of that day changed me forever. i ended up getting splatoon 2 a few weeks later and i played it endlessly. however, i never gave ARMS a second chance, despite having much more fun playing it than splatoon. maybe i'll give ARMS another shot soon, another shot it well deserves.

ARMS was one of the two games I first bought on switch alongside Mario + Rabbids and it was the first switch game I showed to my family and friends, and everyone who I played this game with enjoyed it.
Also fun fact this game was once one of the games of EVO japan 2018 which is incredible

the game does explain the character gimmicks but the area is kind of hidden. when i found it i tried learning every character almost instantly, super fun

As we're hitting the end of the Switchs life span Id like to admit ARMS will now and forever be my favorite Switch game its the only game I always come back to again and again
ARMS is that game I love so much about, the characters, the world, the music, the easy to learn and use fighting mechanics, the hidden lore, it felt like the second "splatoon" after how the first game was so well recieved on Wii U
and they looked to do the same thing with the free updates n support. only issue is it stopped after only 6 months...Splatoon 1 on Wii U got 3 years of content! the only issue with wanting a sequel to this game is the fact the devs behind ARMS are also the Mario Kart devs, and it's clear they've had their hands full with the DLC Booster Pass and potentially the new system's next mario kart. so getting an ARMS 2 doesn't seem very likely sadly but I'll never give up hope. ARMS has loads of potential for more things, like more story, more characters, more mechanics, there's so much untapped potential that I really want to see.

I got that game in a package with a switch and its cover for, what was at the time a fair enough deal. I saw the ads, it clearly was NOT the game I wanted to have, I was more interested in Splatoon 2 and BOTW at that time, but hey, I was excited to have a Switch, so I turned it on, played the only game I had, ARMS, and BOY, was I absolutely not ready for how this game would change my life.
I mean, my avatar everywhere is the fricking Dr. Coyle's logo and it is still today the 3rd game on my switch with the most playtime lmao

Arms was the second game I got for my switch (first was breath of the wild) and I absolutely love it, I was so happy when it got added into smash
I guess we either gotta wait for ARMS 2 or some indie inspired game
Actually there are alternate colors in ARMS. You have to be pressing down the left thumb stick, hold it left right or down, and then select your character. My favorite is Purple Springtron.
The main issue with them making ARMS 2 at this point is that the development team behind ARMS is also the team dedicated to working on Mario Kart. That's one of Nintendo's biggest series of course, so they constantly have work to do on that rather than ARMS. I would absolutely bet Mario Kart 9 is considered a bigger priority atm, so I imagine we likely won't see any more ARMS until after that comes out, and even then ARMS might still be left alone.
1 2 Switch getting a sequel also really has no bearing on what happens with ARMS, since there's a whole Nintendo development team dedicated to the more casual and experimental games like 1 2 Switch. 1 2 Switch is one of their most popular games, so it was natural it would get a sequel, unlike how ARMS is vastly overshadowed by Mario Kart.

i'm hoping that with the switch successor being announced within this fiscal year, we'll hopefully see ARMS 2 as a launch title for it. ARMS had such a cool, quintessentially nintendo vibe. it really did deserve way better.
i jsed to play it all the time with my brother. like splatoon. i know, i was always mad, because the splatfests and arms fests were always on the same weekend
