We are not allowed to landfill stuff like that in the UK, our dump is a series of containers for all the different stuff , you have to place each item in its correct container, these are then recycled.

It's that way most places even in the US. Thought what people put out at the curb that have curbside pickup for their recyclables and garbage it's hard to say if the Garbage company takes it to landfill or they sort it out before loading the trucks that hall to the landfill.

I can second on that free advice. Be it logs or anything else, don’t leave it in front of your trailers.
Also, I used to be that guy that would take any little bit of scrap and save it for taking to the yard. I’m finding more and more that it’s not worth my time. Which is a good thing. It means my time/labor is more valuable than it used to be.

There is a knife maker somewhere watching this and crying that you threw away those saw blades. I would have cut sections to make some nice hacksaw blades for trimming large branches. Maybe welding two sections together to stiffen it to make ice saws for going ice fishing.

Have you considered making/modifying a chain conveyor for sawdust removal through the wall and directly into a trailer. Then you only have to push up the sawdust a couple of feet for cleanup. Plus, you can carry the trailer directly to the compost pile. And if you have walnut, you can dump the trailer at the burn pile.
And slabs and cut-offs are sold here for firewood. If you let them, people will come haul away your slabs and cutoffs for free.. Or they may pay you or Bruno (for handling the marketing).. Strapped 3ft x 10 foot bundles of slabs go for $30 here..

      John Haas,
Our local metal recycle center where my cousin works ships all their metal back to China currently, the diesel it takes to transport the metal from TN to the port then on a ship to China pretty much cancels out the recycling of it, way more pollution is produced by shipping it to China than me throwing it in the landfill, also the recycle center and land fill I showed in the video is just over the state line in VA, not in my home state of TN, I live about 5 miles from Virginia, I conduct a lot of business over there,

    Taking things to the dump...
I'm watching from suburban Chicago (have been for years), where the population of the metro area is about 20 to 25% MORE than the entire state of Tennessee. We take things to the curb...the end of the driveway..., and the local waste management company picks everything up once or twice a week depending on what neighborhood you live in. Big items like refrigerators, couches, beds - you just phone the company, pay an extra couple of dollars, and they pick those up too. And where it's all dumped is affectionately known as 'Mount Trashmore'. It would give some of the smaller Tennessee hills a run for their money.
"Scavengers" come around the evening before 'trash day', in beat up old pick up trucks, and pick up metal items of all kind, and then take their truck to a local metal recycler.

  • @simonpaulbaker5986
    @simonpaulbaker5986 Рік тому

Nathan, we have to separate all our trash when we go to the tip/waste centre. Metal goes into a metal bin, wood into a wood bin, paper/card the same, green waste in its own bin, non-recyclable stuff in another one. Cant just drop it off in one pile now.

You could ask a local scrapper to come by and pick up your metal. You don't have to go to the landfill with it and they aggregate to their total weight. In the end you save money. There is someone who collects scrap in your area just ask around. Every little bit helps and as my very young daughter the accountant says nickels make dimes.

Having a pneumatic grease gun out there made me change my mind real fast. Lol

Actually having a BIG HEAVY log in front of your trailers is a real good idea and get some apple tags and find a frame or channel with a hole and drop in or superglue it and set it and leave it, being preventative is better than looking for a needle in Tenn. unfortunately it is a big problem in S.C along with boats and RV's anything with a hitch.

Maybe half a turn up on the legs at that end? I don't even know that it would have any effect, but I know you are a stickler for accuracy. I wonder if you have to pay for having a trailer load at the dump? The two council tips available to me do not allow trailers, period. Unless I pay for them (north of $50 per visit) and they are extremely picky about what I could tip. The most likely scenario; they would have a row of skips and I'd have to sort the load myself into the appropriate skip. Have a good one.

I guess I missed something. Why do you cut boards on your Woodmizer, and then haul them to another sawmill site that had a Woodmizer and a bunch of logs???? Donating them to a friend in need?

I seen the video of when you did a shop tour of another sawyer. Georgia I think. He had a dust system that traveled with the mill/motor. Have you ever considered something similar. I’m a hobby woodworker and my sawdust piles up pretty quickly. Can’t even imagine how much y’all get. Just wondering! Keep up the good videos. Peace!

Landfill ?… oh that’s SO disappointing Nathan , is there no local recycling centre nearby ? Here in the uk , ok it’s a very much smaller country granted , there are local recycling centres everywhere, they separate metal, cardboard, wood , plastics etc … I’m shocked that a high tech country like the USA still dumps waste in landfills . Doesn’t change the fact I adore your channel and your content , I’m just shocked I guess .

He said it ain't worth taking two salvage yard for what he would get. It's a shame that Isn't a dumpster for metal at the landfill or the township garage to throw that stuff in. Red states might not care about recycling as much

@@johnhaas2523 yeah I caught that about it not being worth his while , but in most of Europe and def in UK it’s illegal to do what was seen in the vid, the local council , your local county I guess , are required by national law to provide these services as they are penalised by national government for every ton that goes into landfill , it’s been going on for years here and we are all pretty much in the habit of going off to our local facility to bin separately ,glass, aluminium, wood, plastic, domestic appliances, rubble etc and the council recoups some or most of the cost selling the scrap etc and making compost from organic material . It’s a crying shame this is still an ok thing to do in such a developed country as the US . Ps … I never did figure this out , what is a red state ?

Are you using the sawdust as compost or just burning it or...? You generate a lot of the stuff and it seems like some creative way to use it would be in order. I am just curious what you do with it.
