- In this episode we talk about fleas and how to get rid of them. There are some important steps in flea control that have less to do with chemicals, and more to do with approach and method. Understanding the flea life cycle helps to let you control and eliminate them from your home. We all love our pets, but fleas can be an inevitable part of pet ownership. Where do they come from? Great info as usual, Ben! Thanks for your expert guidance. We had a bad infestation several years ago and I used food grade Diatomaceous Earth on the animals and in the house. I was really skeptical but it actually worked like a charm! Like you said, many, many vacuuming days and re-applications but it was cheap and it worked. When used on the animals, be sure to dust them well and rub it in so it gets down to the skin. In the home, get the carpets and pay special attention to baseboards. Look forward to more tips and advice from the Pros!

Flea treatment is simple. Treat the pet with a good flea treatment and occasionally treat the home, pet and yard with feed or food grade diatomaceous earth. If the pet eats the feed or food grade diatomaceous earth all it will do is kill and clean out any eggs or worms in the intestinal tract which is a good thing.
To the flea its like rolling around in broken glass and gets in-between their exoskeletal plates causing them to basically dehydrate and bleed to death.
Only draw back is that it can stain light colors such as white carpets and upholstery however if you don't live in a white on white home that isn't usually a problem.
My daughter pet sits and hasn't had any problems with home infestation even after highly infested dogs are dropped off. She just treats the home and rubs down the infested animal with feed or food grade diatomaceous earth and is trouble free without resorting to chemicals. The residual of diatomaceous earth in your carpet and furnishings will help kill the fleas in your bag-less vacuum too.
She didn't believe Dear Old Dad at first until she saw how the fleas reacted to the feed or food grade diatomaceous earth but now she's a believer. You may notice I keep repeating the Feed or Food Grade part which I do since this is important as it will not harm you, your pet or children if ingested unless they already have some very serious health issues.

Yes, dust or diatomaceous earth is very useful. However, I'd say that over half of those that buy it so not use it properly. That tends to give it a bad wrap. Used correctly, it is great. Thanks for watching!
@@pestcontrolguys Dealing with our year round sand fleas it works out quite well. Most feed and grain stores here carry it in 40 lb bags.
Like most things if you deal with them before they become a big problem then it won't take much effort to clear things up.
Best thing I did was rip out the carpeting and polish the terrazzo floors underneath.
Only problem now is nobody wants to wears shoes or socks in my house when they can walk barefoot on cool polished terrazzo.
