I prefer the plastic anti-rotation bracket over the metal because it typically doesn’t break anything else so having a sacrificial part is cheap to keep on-hand.
I prefer plastic antirotation brackets as well. A lot of people like metal which is nice and strong but they do not break in a hard crash as well as carbon fiber. They are strong, but break other parts. Having sacrificial parts is very important!

Tail belt on the m4 was one of the things I thought was very easy to install... at least compared to my previous helis I have owned. I like that you can take it off without messing with anything. I assume the Venom is the same way though but with more room to get at it.
I found the tail belt to be the hardest belt to install out of any helicopter I’ve ever built. My biggest issue with the RS4 is that you have to remove the main shaft to pull the tail belt which I do not like.
I agree that the I thought the M4 tail belt went on easily. Just fished it through the wider slot in the frame and spun the motor around, went on first try.

Jeff the Comparison test is not quite complete. We need to see a 70% throttle inverted crash on the M4, as demonstrated in previous video with Goosky.😅
Thanks for the review. I have both of these helicopters and the OMP is slightly better in durability and flight time. The RS4 is good but the skids tend to break to break easily for some reason. I have no idea why? Maybe their quality control is still not up to scratch as I have gone through two sets of skids in somewhat light crashes. Also, from my experience, even though I have both helis set up the same and use the same 1800 6s packs, the M4 comes down with more left in the pack.
I’m glad you had a great experience with the M4, I wish I did. It seems like a great heli but needed work. My biggest issue with it is how hot the motor and servos get after a flight. Especially on a hot day. That is very weird about your skids breaking on the RS4? I’ve got the original set on both my RS4 and RS4 Venom. Maybe it’s a bad batch. You are he first person I’ve heard have them break like that.

I want to build an M4 for myself because it's so damn sexy, I had a rs4 and unfortunately the look is just awful... (this is purely a matter of taste), and most of all I didn't like its frame design, it's too complicated, and quite soft metal ( most likely the problem is a too small head) I bent the shafts and the hub of the main rotor. I regard this helicopter as a cheap option that can crash constantly, I fly extremely low and very fast, in 600 and 700 class I can't afford to fly 10-20 centimeters from the ground. And in terms of repairs and the price of spare parts, the M4 is beautiful in every detail! My M2 has been dropped more than 400 times, and in all the drops I have never bent the main shaft. The day before yesterday I hit him at high speed against a brick wall, lifted him up and flew further, this says a lot.
It’s definitely all a matter of taste to which model you prefer. If you wanna build a M4, then go ahead and build one! Definitely a nice helicopter but unfortunately the way a situation was handled. I personally would not support them but I still think the overall design of the helicopter is very nice.
OMP gave many people good 3d performance for a lot less than others. The most reasonable price parts. In the M2 models first. That means something to me I like to stick with the girl I bring to the dance so to speak. I also won't cut my nose to spite my face the rs4 performed better.
I agree! I have been flying OMP models since they came to the market. They definitely gave a lot of pilots. Great models and they still make free models despite their terrible customer service. But the RS4 performed better.

If you have no flight experience at all I would recommend neither. A 400 size heli is not a toy anymore! IMHO the xk k110 is a great heli to begin with. A friend of mine just learned with it. He crashed it at least 50 times meanwhile with minimal damage. You should just fly over grass.
I highly recommend getting a Goosky S2 for your first beginner model I would also highly recommend picking up a simulator and practicing a lot before actually flying. I definitely don’t recommend going bigger than a 200 size model for your first and to get started as the bigger they are the more dangerous they are and the S2 is very inexpensive to replace parts in a crash and keep flying.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 hi you recommend the S2 as good beginner Heli but then warn about high cost of spare parts in event of crash? Do you think an M2 or even an M1 might be a better option then than the GS S2 due to cheaper parts? Great vid by the way, I'm trying to decide which 150-200 Heli to get as my first 'proper' cp Heli.
Do you think if you threw a Hobbywing 80 on the M4, would it help with the bogging issues? I want to build the M4 because I just like the way it looks. Plus I obviously have my Raw 420 which is very similar to the Goosky as far as looks are concerned so I'm looking at building a more traditional looking helicopter for my next build. Still deciding between these two though.
HW 80 will make zero difference in terms of bogging. BUT 100% throttle is way too much. 80-85 are more than enough with enough headroom that it won't bog. set pitch to 14° and you are good to go.
@@GrimesRic so you don't think having a better ESC would make any difference? How would turning the throttle down help avoid bogging? I'm definitely not even capable of flying it to that point right now, however I want to get to that point. That's why I am future proofing all my models and just building them nice right now. Do you think it's just a limitation of the motor?
@@jiawenbao3698 I have a HW 80 on my Raw 420 and I had so many issues trying to solve the tail wag on it. I finally sent it to Jeff himself to help me get it figured out after trying everything to get it resolved. Turned out that I just had the gain on the govnor too high. He also did some other tuning on it as well and got it flying really well. With all that being said, what ESC would you recommend on these 380-400 size direct drive helis?
I have had to to reinstall the belt on the M4 due to a crash, and did not find it to be difficult at all. But 5 minutes with a Dremel would give you ample clearance to make it "easy". In my opinion, having to remove the main shaft to change a belt would be more annoying. In ten years, I have had one motor fail and it was due to the bearings wearing out. But I did check mine as you did (after 5 packs), and I found it to be warm at best. The RS4 motor is bigger and therefore seems to have more head room. But ultimately, how does that translate into real world flying? They seemed to perform nearly identically. I guess what I am getting at is that you have split hairs to an extreme and picked a "clear" winner on two items that most people would deem fairly insignificant. I think most would appreciate more comparative information on parts availability, documentation and support. Because they are near twins in most physical aspects. Not trying to piss on your Cheerios. I just think you would have received less heated responses (in forums especially) if you simply stated the obvious fact, which is, you can't really go wrong with either. Instead, you have left the door wide open for fan boys to tear into this review. I will mention that I did receive my M4 kit missing the receiver board. There are others reporting some minor issues with their kits as well. But these things happen. And Omp, well the retailers anyway, seem to be making efforts to take care of anyone with an issue in a timely fashion. Attention to detail with the outgoing M4 kits would be more of a concern to me than a warm motor after hard 3D. But it does seem as though parts are now readily available, which I know was not the case not long ago. My M4 is now my go-to heli without hesitation. I sold my 470L almost immediately. I really love it. That being said, I am thinking I would have a similar experience with the RS4. Thank you for your efforts. As a whole, I really enjoyed the video. Nice flying btw.
I have done a bunch of side-by-side comparison reviews on so many different helicopters, and I never choose a helicopter because at the end of the day it is up to the consumer and what is best for you. So I’ll give you some contacts on why I chose the RS4 over the M4. It all boils down to customer service, and how issues are reported and taken care of. The M4 could be the best flying helicopter ever invented and I still would not like it. I had some issues with my kit which a bunch other people have as well. I simply made a post on a Facebook group, just stating and showing the issues that I had. I was immediately bashed talked bad upon and hated on by the designer of the helicopter, as well as multiple of their team, pilots and representatives. Prior to that post I sent out an email to where the helicopter was purchased from and got told that they didn’t have the parts in stock and to go somewhere else to buy them, the parts I had issues with was a bent tail shaft which I purchased a brand new packet not even caring about the three dollars. When I opened up the canopy, it was completely destroyed, cracked in multiple places, then having to drill the carbon fiber frame sides out to fit a traditional driver that everybody has was just some of the issues that I stated in the post Again not comparing bashing or saying anything about any other helicopter manufacturer. The issues were never resolved. I got a big F you left in the dust now I have to purchase a $80 canopy as well as having to purchase tail shafts. ( witch again I don’t care about $3 but it’s the point) there has been several other customers that have been treated the exact same way and that really put a bad taste in my mouth so I cannot feel comfortable to report and say to purchase this helicopter when the customer service has been so terrible and the bashing of people just simply having issues. There has been several other customers that have reported issues on different groups and immediately bashed and talk to like they are dumb, which you do not get that kind of treatment when you purchase other helicopters, no matter what brand.
I have seen a bit of what you are talking about, unfortunately. That's too bad. I will say that I have gotten parts quite quickly. My backup canopy was only $50. I do love the heli. But I definitely understand your position based on your experience. It is amazing to me that some people do not understand the importance of the after purchase experience. I'll gladly trade my autographed frame for a better attitude from you know who. He seemed annoyed that I mentioned I was missing a piece from my kit instead of apologetic. Fortunately, mine flies great, and I have enough spare parts to last a while.
Great Video. The high Motor Temperature is a big problem at the M4 because the Servos are getting pretty hot too because of that. Goosky made a better job there in my opinion. Maybe i should have waited for the Rs4 Venom 🫤
Thank you! I appreciate it, yes! Higher motor temps is a problem. And that was just with one flight. Normally, I fly multiple packs through my helicopters at a time and I think after three or four batteries, it would be so hot. I wouldn’t feel comfortable flying it! The Venom is a beast! Love that Heli already. Tons of power and handles flight after flight, pack after pack and motor is around the same temp from first to last flight. I have a video with the difference between the regular RS4, and RS4 venom
Yes. Maybe it will get better with the new Motor but these Motors are pretty expensive. I think it will cost about 200$. Before i Upgrade to a new Motor it would probably be smarter to sell the m4 and buy a rs4 venom. I mean the M4 flies good but its no fun when i can just fly in the Winter cause the Electronics get to warm in the summer
Jeff, it would be nice if you could quantify the "Hot" motor temperature by measuring it and do the same on the motor of the venom. This makes the review more valuable. Thank you and keep on going with the reviews!
Nice comparison thanks for your work 😊 How do you compare RS4 Venom to Trex 470. Both fly 380’s blades. 470 is much lighter. Is RS4 Venom more powerful, more rigid? For medium/hard 3D which one do you prefer? I have a Trex 470, in your opinion is RS4 Venom worth it next to it? I absolutely love my S2, so I’m pretty convinced by Goosky BTW.
Thank you! I greatly appreciate it. So owning both models, I will say that the RS4 venom is a well worth upgrade from the 470 in a couple aspects. Yes, the 470 is lighter, but the venom has more power way better tale performance at lower head speeds. You never have a tail blow out. If you like the S2 you will love the venom even more!
I have two 470s and the M4 and the M4 tail is way better. The M4 feels totally locked in stable and has plenty of power for me. Amazing heli, easy to build.
This is what I don't understand with these, 5000 rpm! I know it's unloaded but why does it need to be that high on a 380mm blade heli when most people won't be flying above around 3000?! All the videos I've seen, people are running the throttle at 60-80% and not one video or mention to run this heli on 5s! 5s 2200mAh would be perfect and you'd get so much more flight time with only marginally reduced performance! Even 4s with something like 4s 3000mAh at 90-100% throttle would still give you 3000 rpm and probably 7+ minutes 3D!
That has nothing to do with it. No matter what I’m always honest in every video. If you watch the RS4 VS RAW 420 I say the RAW 420 is my favorite. Not sponsored by SAB…
@@westhobbiesrc8051 I think he is just suggesting that by not saying that up front, the perception could be taken differently that you might be trying to hide it. That person who made that allegation on RCG is an OMP Hobby dealer. He has absolutely no evidence to back that up. That is what typical OMP fanboys do, they smear people whose opinion they don't like. I prefer the plastic anti-rotation bracket over the metal because it typically doesn’t break anything else so having a sacrificial part is cheap to keep on-hand.
Tell me about it, I just messed up a servo on my M1 after I replaced the bracket with a metal one from rakon heli
I prefer plastic antirotation brackets as well. A lot of people like metal which is nice and strong but they do not break in a hard crash as well as carbon fiber. They are strong, but break other parts. Having sacrificial parts is very important!

Get an Omp M2! You will love it.
Believe the cost difference between the two. Omp about 399, the goosky is 500 to 600!
@@Norm8179 OMP M4 is $550 that’s PNP (no battery or FBL) Goosky RS4 is $699 PNP with battery and FBL.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 ok that makes up the cost difference.
@@Lance57Hrunning 100 throttle leaves no headroom for the esc. If you want the best performance, consider using governor in your FBL.
From my personal experience, the HW Governor is not designed for direct drive motors. The I gain there is way too high (even 0 wasn’t low enough)
I agree too I prefer that the M4 tail belt comes on and off easily without having to pull the main shaft. It's easier than my trex 470.
My personal choice is the SAB Raw 420 😊.
Because you’ve done a comparison between the OMP M4, GOOSKY RS4 Venom & the SAB RAW 420..?
Later maybe M4 Max?🙂
I love my raw 420!
@Chief351L I've got them all, my favourite is the M4 then the Raw 420.
@@lachlangreen8389Interesting, what convinces you to choose the M4 over the raw 420?
Do some with auto level, for the new heli people. Not everyone fly's 3D.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 thanks for your feedback
@@jeanrochat you’re welcome! I will do a review and compensation on the Trex 470 and RS4 Venom.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 Cool can’t wait to see it 😀
I have two 470s and the M4 and the M4 tail is way better. The M4 feels totally locked in stable and has plenty of power for me. Amazing heli, easy to build.
who is better.....both😅
This is what I don't understand with these, 5000 rpm! Even 4s with something like 4s 3000mAh at 90-100% throttle would still give you 3000 rpm and probably 7+ minutes 3D!
should probably mention you're sponsored by goosky.....
Certainly possible to have a non-biased review even if you are sponsored. I only own one of them so can't compare anything at all myself. It is great to have lots of options and I don't think anyone would go wrong with any of them.
That person who made that allegation on RCG is an OMP Hobby dealer. He has absolutely no evidence to back that up. That is what typical OMP fanboys do, they smear people whose opinion they don't like. In addition to Jeff West, at least 3 persons on Helifreak with both the venom and M4 have said they prefer the venom, having more power and feeling more locked in at the same time. The behavior of OMP fanboys will just put people off the OMP completely.
@@zxpro1684 I am a Goosky “team” pilot. But that means nothing. I’m not a SAB “team” pilot and prefer the RAW 420 over the Goosky RS4. So many people think being a “team” pilot (witch I didn’t ask for) they did because Ive tested and helped them improve there design since the beginning. OMP can’t help and take criticism about issues they have. I bet Jonas won’t talk about the bashing on Facebook because of the issues I had and made a post saying I was disappointed with build and never got any help because I’m me. It’s terrible customer service. If the M4 was better I would of said it’s better. I ALWAYS speak the truth and will never let a “team” pilot name persuade my opinion on like some others.
The layout on the Rs4 Venom looks way better and stronger
So I just read that you WestHobbiesRC is Sponsoer by Goosky and could sway to Goosky over others like the M4. Hmmmm
