That's the exact setup I want. I'm glad you did this video. I have seen enough of the rs4 to want one. It comes down to performance to dollar ratio with every rc model I purchase. I may use my radiomaster. Other than that I'm going with exactly what you got.
I’m glad the video was helpful! Next video will be the maiden flight of this model! I think it’s a fantastic helicopter in the best buck for your money. It always comes down to performance for dollar on any helicopter. you want to get the best that you can for what you can afford/spend. I am thankful and lucky for each and everyone of you to support me follow the channel and keep it growing so I am able to do these kind of videos and help you guys make your decision on which model you would like to purchase!
I am just finishing setting up my ikon on my Venom and your videos have been so helpful. I am using a hobbywing ESC instead of the goosky, and I cannot seem to find anybody on UA-cam that states how to program the hobbywing when wanting to use the ikon as the governor instead of the hobbywing. That would be awesome if you made a video explaining how to do that. I know a ton of people use hobbywing esc's so that would be useful information on how to set that up properly. Thanks!! Keep up the great work!
The ikon 2 gov with the hobbywing and this particular motor combo of the rs4 dont work well. Came across a bunch of people, including myself that had hunting issues with the gov meaning that it would randomly vary 150 rpms and looked like the tail gyro was randomly experiencing too much tail gyro gain in flight. I fought with the system for 6 hours by changing all sorts of setting in the ikon and hobbywing, updating esc, and found no solution. I fought the idea of hmusing the hobbywing gov fully convinced it wouldnt do the job right. Ended up turning of the ikon gov, setting up the hobbywing one and all is good. The only thing you are missing by not setting the ikon gov is the additional pitch precomp. You might have already figured it out, but to set ikon 2 gov for rs4 vemom with hobbywing esc is to set esc, heli ext gov, lvc off, and freewheel disabled. West posted a vid awhile ago about setting up the ikon gov on a different heli. The only thing that needa changed is pulse rotation is 20, main gear 1, and tail gear 4. Venom does nice with 2000, 2500, and 2900 for headspeeds. Good luck
When you do your collective pitch adjustment, pull your blades to the side of the heli at center stick to verify they are even. The tell tale is that you have 13.5 one way and 14.4 the other. Yes, you can use travel, but now in transmitter screen you will not be green at 100% stick travel. The M4 has perfect geometry. You will have even travel of collective once the servo horns are 90 degrees first, then the follower arms are 90 degrees second, then set your link length for the grips to get the blades even with each other as a shear. Now when you do your collective pitch adjustment, it will be within .2. Perfection flies perfect. If you have to adjust travel that much, check center and lengths of swash and pitch links. Good info though. I just thought I’d ad alittle. Try it. Another cool thing with your Spektrum radio is go to advanced menu, input and change cyclic and rudder deadbands to 1.0 on all 3 banks. Connects the feel better. I’ll rip with you at IRCHA. We both need a spotter. lol. Have fun Jeff.
Thank you! I appreciate it, I would love to see that as well. Honestly, I would love to see a 700 size helicopter as a direct drive! I know there is some things in the works, but I don’t know what they are as far as size of the model.
I bought a used trex450 with a microbeast. It is my first flybarless heli. Setup was a huge pain. Tried following the guide but it took 4 tries to find the correct model of microbeast. Eventually I got the correct model and setup wasn't horrible. But this looks so much easier to me. It was convenient being able to just use my transmitter though
Great video again! I guess there are different way do set the pitch but my ocd can't handle the travel not being -100 /100 on page 5 of the ikon setup. I alway change the absolute travel in the advanced menu 😂
Thank you! Trust me, I’m very OCD as well lol but, I have found that setting the pitch to 100 in the menus is somewhat useless because you always have to adjust travel in the radio so it is never perfectly 100 anyways so I just leave it lol
@@westhobbiesrc8051 if you adtust the max travel in the advanced menu of the ikon you don't have to adjust the travel on the radio. But both ways work of course
Great Vid! a question please, i'm about to setup new Goblin 380 with MSH Brain 2, what positive and negative pitch do i need to set? 13.5? 8.5? searching that beginner-mid super easy 3d fly. Thank you
Hi Jeff, another great video. I know you like to use Torq servos but they are almost impossible to find in the uk. Do you know if the Goosky RS4 Venom Cyclic Servo And Tail Servo Set : GT020170 would be a good option?
Thank you! Yes, those servos are a good option. Also if you want even better then Torq see if you can get Theta servos. Been using them alot lately and really like them!
@@james22507 www.bkhobbies.com/products/theta-ths921a-micro-thm982-mini-tail-servo-set Here is the link to the set. You can buy them from BK and I believe they will ship to the UK.
Greetings James. Which servos did you use? I'm worried that the stock servos will fail after a few flights. Are you having any problems with stock servos?
I bought the rs4 venom because of your recommendations and i love it but am using gov store on my hobbywing 60a v4 platinum. I was wondering which is better ikon2 gov or hobbywing. If i do use the ikon2 gov what do i use for pulses for rotation main gear ratio and tail gear ratio. What speeds for 1,2,3 or just leave them at default. Governor gain Default at 50%. Thankyou for always answer back love the videos.
Hopefully you figured it out. I just got mine flying this last week and the ilon gov never worked right for me. Pulse rotation is 20, main gea 1, tail gear 4. I use 2000, 2400, 2900 speeds. I played around with so many settings to get a stabile hold on the headspeed, but couldnt. Heli would randomly glitch every 3 to 5 seconds at holding rpm speed and looked like tail gain was way to high causing the tail to jitter. Went with the hobbywing gov and was able to turn the tail gain in my spektrum transmitter from 32 (max with ikon gov cause of major jitter) to 54 at 2000 rpms. Sloved alot of little issues, now all i have left to tune out is this annoying porpusing when moving forwards and giving any level of cyclic pitch commands. Just allows the tail to droop ever time.
Would you have to know how to disable the 5 second delay for Throttle up on the stock venom esc. Hobby wing programmer doesn't seem to have a setting for it.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 bummer. It's a hobbywing so I can slightly program it but I don't understand why it doesn't immediately throttle up. Guess I'll have to live with it
