  • Motor1 Senior Editor Jake Holmes gets behind the wheel of Cadillac’s uber-sedan the CTS-V to see if it’s got the chops to take on the heavy-hitting German competition.

    As-tested price: $109,610
    Floaty cars for retirees? That cliche hasn’t been true of Cadillacs for years. In fact, the first CTS-V showed us years ago Cadillac knew how to build a serious sports car. Now there’s a new CTS-V, and as before, it has serious firepower under its tightly tailored suit.
    The regular Cadillac CTS sedan is already seriously satisfying to drive, but the V treatment adds a 640-horsepower engine, carbon-fiber aerodynamic parts, Brembo brakes, and a serious suspension upgrade. It’s the sort of makeover that turns an executive cruiser into a racetrack bruiser. But for its six-figure price, the CTS-V also needs to prove it can still bring the style, luxury, and equipment expected of an expensive luxury sedan. Find out how Cadillac’s latest supercharged beast stacks up as we put it through our Why Buy? treatment.
    SPECIFICATIONS:
    Engine: Supercharged 6.2-liter V8
    Output: 640 Horsepower / 630 Pound-Feet
    Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic
    EPA Fuel Economy: 14 City / 21 Highway / 17 Combined

    I disagree the CTS interior is every bit as luxurious as the current 5 series if not slightly better. The CTS interior much feels great and it views much better in person!

      sirj860 That piano black just looks cheap and the CUE system isn't that great to use. The new 5 Series interior and E class look much better.

    People that are saying this is too expensive have to realize that this car has more performance and is about $30K to $60K cheaper than the fully loaded Germans. Fully loaded, this car is $110K which is below base price of the Germans.

    • @TinoMiller
      @TinoMiller 7 років тому +2

      Freddie B So true.. 👏👏👏 a damn E Class base price is $60 K

    • @fredeb67
      @fredeb67 7 років тому +6

      The Germans nickel and dime you to death with options that should be standard on a premium brand. Some Mercedes and BMW don't even come standard with leather seating surfaces.

    • @TinoMiller
      @TinoMiller 7 років тому +4

      Freddie B my dad got pissed when he saw the same C Class Mercedes Benz having more premium vents and stuff than tge S Class. And what is more crazy is that he spend $100K on his S550 AMG and it didn't come with tge options he hoped for.
      I think next year I'm going to get him the CT6 or the CTS-V ..
      Not even his Porsche had things I thought would ve standard on a car you are spending over $90K on.

    • @fredeb67
      @fredeb67 7 років тому +6

      I bought a 2009 SL550 that was in the $100K club and it did not come standard with the park assist and distronic and some other features. Love the car but when you spend that type of money, you should not have to be adding options that come standard on lessor cars. My next purchase will either be the ZO6, CTS-V or the ATS-V.

    • @TinoMiller

      Freddie B I got my Camaro 2SS but in my opinion Cadillac is really getting its name back. The Germans been having a stubbly attitude thinking everyone want their cars even at a high price without the bells and whistles.. One reason why theirstocks are going down so badly too.

      One thing is that wireless charged does NOT charge my iPhone X but USB does
      And Haptics touch on my screen as well as the buttons is the one issue that I have at the same time I’m not too crazy about pushing the buttons as my temperature always said 21 and my music comes on the soon as I plug my iPhone in the car and therefore I can’t control everything from the steering wheel, fingerprints on screen are taken care by my Microfibre cloth which are use few times a day
      And when it comes down to my rides to work I have smoked every vehicle that tried to race me even the Porsche Panamera Turbo now I don’t know whether he had a good start to like me or it was just the shape

    I'm sorry I was recently at a Cadillac driving event and I walked away with one major theme. Cadillacs period especially the CTS have such nice interiors. Interiors that are on par with the Germans. All of them have different approaches but that is not an area you can knock a Cadillac for anymore. Also they have a solid one piece of metal feel that they use to not have.

    • @HorrisPMcTitties
      @HorrisPMcTitties 7 років тому +1

      RayJ-HT No sir. They are far from being on par with the Germans. You didn't touch enough. Everything is lose and cheap in Cadillacs. Even the Japanese have always been higher quality snd still are. Don't be fooled by the looks -- although I think it's hideous looking.

      I will agree with you about dependability but the only one out of the three that is having engine problems in large numbers, now, is BMW. Almost any car in the modern age will go 200K at least. People have different value systems and while Lexus is dependable many don't like the designs, interior quality or driving dynamics. Still your point is valid because the Germans are electrical nightmares.

    The base price is 85k and it's not like any of the packages affect performance or even luxury. Other than the Recaro seats the interior and performance are the same. So why does he speak of it as if it's overpriced ? And even fully loaded it is a better value than the German comp.

    • @HorrisPMcTitties
      @HorrisPMcTitties 7 років тому

      2017 zl1 camaro/2016 camaro fan The Audi RS7 isn't a competitor. The RS7 competes with the M6 Gran Coupe, CLS63 and Porsche Panamera. The Cadillac won't hold its value and that's why it's too expensive. It's still a GM at the end of the day.

      2009 CTSv 100k miles still 25k Base price when new $60,000
      2009 M5 with the same amount of miles you can get for 25k Base price when new $85,500
      2009 E63amg with the same miles is around 24k Base price when new $84000
      It's still a GM at the end of the day. Which one depreciated more LMFAO ok
      a Pontiac G8 GXP is still worth more than the germans.

    The review was pretty biased. Its suppose to cost less than the German performance cars and more Driver Oriented Luxury. Most CTS-V don't pay much to the details since the driving experience from it predominates.

    Not everybody likes dark grey carbon parts ( I prefer body color) . The steering wheel looks like its covered by corduroy material which is very ugly. Not enough gauges.. oil ... water ... voltmeter ... every car needs more gauges so that the car is continuously being audited for max performance. Who in this world enjoys stupid red or yellow warning lights 500 miles away from home. gauges would be a better forewarning system ... but we still accept idiot lights without complaints.

    • @HorrisPMcTitties
      @HorrisPMcTitties 7 років тому +1

      Lt. wreck They're 100 times more reliable, better looking to most and they hold their value. They're also built better, have better quality materials and Lexus has stepped their performance game up. They're F and F-Sport models are great. Two letters -- GM. That alone should tell you why people buy Lexus more. Or even BMW, Audi and Benz.

    • @vernonprice5986
      @vernonprice5986 7 років тому +3

      Lexuses are slightly more reliable than Cadillacs, they're both in the top 5 according to JD Power. Certainly not enough of a difference to buy a Lexus based solely on that. Lexuses aren't better looking either, with those gigantic fish mouths and then super conservative body styling. They look like any other car on the road with a giant fish face slapped on the front. Cadillac V series cars hold their value better than Lexuses do, go ahead and look up gen 2 CTS-Vs on autotrader for confirmation.
      "built better" falls under reliability, which as I said, is very close between Lexus and Cadillac. Lexus doesn't have better quality materials either, the CTS-V uses real wood, aluminum, magnesium and carbon fiber. And Lexus has "stepped their performance game" up to a level that's still significantly below the CTS-V. Their F models might be "great" in a vacuum, as long as you don't compare them to any other cars, but the CTS-V absolutely and completely murders cars like the GS F which costs the same money as the CTS-V.
      You don't have a valid reason to not buy a CTS-V. You would only buy a Lexus if you enjoy spending more money on vastly inferior performance, which is something an idiot would do.
