- ‘We are not about to actually invalidate the green ID books, they still continue to be a legal document, that decision has not been made by the department,’ says Thulani Mavuso, deputy director general at the Department of Home Affairs. Moneyweb (www.moneyweb.co.za)
The problem is we don't have the money to do the smart id because we are not working
True that
100 mobile trucks for the whole entire country? They must be smoking something. Allow banks all over the country to issue smart cards not just in Gauteng, WC, KZN. People are not willing to go stand in the longest queues ever at the Home Affairs offices.
I'll wait until the arrangement with banks is in place then apply through my bank. No way I'm spending a day of my life at home affairs
I live in Citrusdal and the nearest Home Affairs is in Vredendal.
I actually got my card within about 40 minutes
My husband became a full South African citizen about 50 years ago. However, they do not seem to accept that, because he was born in the UK. So he may not apply for a card.
I feel this is totally unfair. And what does he do when green id books are no longer recognised? His green id is in pieces anyway...
My husband has been a citizen by naturalisation for 23 years, and he's told that he has to motivate why he should get a smart ID card - absolute BS. Green ID books can be applied for here ( Ekurhuleni/ Gauteng) in Delmas of all places. But what's the point of doing that if they're going to declare them invalid? His ID book is also in a bad state.
What is the alternative in place for South Africans, Permanent residents with green ID but who aren't SA-born?
I went to apply for the new card, but was told that because I was from Zimbabwe, but an SA citizen, I could not get one… so they can go to hell… I won’t apply again
The person who told you that was either clueless or drunk. If you are a naturalized SA Citizen you are entitled to an SA ID document.
Nope. The DHA website clearly says that only SA born people can have a smart ID. And yet I hold a SA passport issued by the DHA. Go figure. 😵💫@susanp.collins7834
@@susanp.collins7834you can’t get a smart card if you are naturalized.
@@susanp.collins7834 they're saying you have to motivate getting a card. Ridiculous! My husband's been a naturalised citizen for over 20 years and that's what he's been told, so it's true about that.
I am a South African who happened to be born in the USA, as my parents were there at the time. I am told by the DHA I am not eligible for a smart ID. So once my green boere bookie is no longer valid, what do I do for an ID? I am a SA citizen holding an SA passport. Is this unconstitutional or what?
I have permanent residence in SA and my daughter is a citizen but because her Green ID book says England as place of birth also mine as well we were told by Home Affairs we will never qualify for a Smart ID card.
Me too
Class action laws suite requited. Constitutional Court needs testing.
Discrimination of the highest order. 😡😡
Are they going to pull their finger at Home Affairs to issue us the Smart Cards and stop being Off Line...😮
I have been waiting for my ID Smart Card since beginning of November 2023!!! Home Affairs is totally USELESS!!! It's now July 2024 on Monday! Applied at the NEW Home Affairs office in Menlyn Mall in Pretoria. Pathetic
5 years ago i applied for my son's unabridged birth certificate cause he needed it for his exams. Every month they told me it was on it's way, i'm still waiting for it. We always blame everything on White people, so is it White people's fault that Home Affairs is so useless, that the unabridged birth certificate never came? So, you quite right my brother, it's really pathetic. You can imagine how many South Africans are waiting on various documents that just seem to never come.
I went to apply for Smart card in Sterkspruit Eastern Cape and they told me that I can't get it because my ID is blocked
I have a green ID book, and I am 76 years old, why in the hell should I renew my ID? I do not get enough pension to pay for such. I might need a death certificate before I get a new ID card.
I have already had my ID document renewed three times since I was borne. The powers that be must stop trying to make money from the citizens.
The last time I renewed my driver's license it took months because they could not pick up any fingerprints although they made several attempts. Home Affairs 2 months ago wanted to update my records they only made one attempt then proceeded without them. As a permanent resident I do not think I qualify anyway.
I stay in rural area hime affairs always offline
Unbelievable goverment shoots itself in the foot by not getting starlink.
Hope we are not charged
So now nithi asibe namapasi bese niyasilawula ngawo manje, hay they have to take it from me,ene ngeke kubelula koliwa.
Its corruption for changing ID,Car disc nd Drivers licence iyakuphi lemali this government full of nonsense really
Maybe talk to your staff buddy because they contradict what you say and so do the banks
Maybe senior citizens like me can relax as we may die before we have to hurry to get in those horrific queues. But if youre young then you need your id for nearly every important transaction in life.
Those are dumb ID cards cs to make a copy nowadays you need to make 2 copies😂😂😂😂😂
Smart cards = CDBC'S track and trace your every move.
No way getting a smart id card
Will the mobile Home Affairs offices, available at Plot 259- Randfontein. That place is a deep rural place which is an old farm?
