@@davidhendrix2418 I think she's a great singer. But have you never heard of Lara Fabian? She's next level. So much emotion goes into her songs and you feel it. I'd suggest "Je Suis Malade" (I am sick).
I know religion in general tends to be patriarchal, but if you teach your girls they don’t need a man to be whole, that is the best life lesson you can give them. If they grow up to be self-sufficient & independent, they won’t ever be in a position where a man can treat them like the woman in the music video. Just my opinion.
I think you may have missed the fact that the mom committed murder/suicide to get herself out of the situation. Hence the lyrics, “I’m not saying it’s right or it’s wrong, but maybe it’s the only way”. POWERFUL. POWERFUL, lyrics.
As a survivor of domestic violence, I relate to this song. When it first came out, it took my breath away. I still cry whoever I see this video or hear the song.
My daddy was the best man I've ever known. My sissy & I grew up surrounded by large, hard men who would have killed to protect us. We both married men who fooled us and we were abused (I had a broken nose, fractures on my skull and cheek and miscarried two babies. I literally joined the Army to get away from my husband. It took me two whole years to get divorced from him ( 4 years married in total). My second husband was a soldier and we've been together almost 40 years and he would never ever lay a hand on me. My sister took longer to divorce her husband but she has now been single for almost 35 years and she has never had another relationship with a man. My sister and I literally never knew that a man would treat us the way they did since my father or uncles and all of our calabash uncles would never have lifted a hand to a woman. We never told our father because he would have been thrown in prison for murder of two men.
I'm glad you found the way out and healed enough to risk loving someone again. I'm always confused about how I should feel during this song. I end up feeling empty and sad. Victory at what cost? Her life seems to high a price. I don't have a daughter, but if I did her life would be to high of a cost, rather mine.
This absolutely is a patriotic song. It is about personal freedom. Maybe the most cherished freedom in the world. And our country, if it reaches its potential, will provide that personal freedom for all.
same here.......dont know how my mom survived. she was just a tiny woman and he was a brute of a man. the stories i could mention!!! all i knew at a young age, didnt want my kids to see and hear what i did! that cycle brike with me and now my daughter is in a loving relationship with her husband!
I am so glad you are a citizen! I so appreciate your sensitivity, your compassion and passion for your wife, your children and for your fellow man. You, Sir, are a grand addition to our citizenry. Your beautiful wife got herself quite a man. I enjoy your reactions so very much!!!
As someone born to this country one of the most touching experiences of my life was going to the Federal Courthouse and watching a naturalization ceremony. Seeing the excitement, joy and passion of our newest citizens (who had to jump through considerable hoops and work for it) was inspirational and emotional. I encourage everyone to witness it at least once.
Martina McBride in concert is amazing. Sometimes when artists are live you can't hear them well over the bands, but Martina's vocals are so strong you can hear her over the band. I heard her in Manhattan Kansas at a Country Stampede and it was amazing.
Great reaction! This is considered Martina's signature song! It's hard to believe it is 30 years old! It peaked at #12 on the Country charts because radio stations didn't want to play a song about domestic violence. But it won CMA Video of the Year in 1994 and Song of the Year in 1995! Rolling Stone ranked it at #45 on the 100 Greatest County Songs of All Time in 2024.
even more than fathers teaching their daughters how they should be treated, sons need to be taught that they don't need to "prove their masculinity" by treating anyone like this.
this was based a true story of a woman who was beaten every single day so she took things into her own hands. She turned herself in and was found not guilty because of temporary insanity due to abuse...
Yep. That was Francine Hughes, who burned her husband's bed with him in it after years of vicious abuse. Her story was told in the movie The Burning Bed, Francine was played by Farrah Fawcett in a stunning performance.
@@belendawigington7618 Highly recommend the movie, it's on Tubi for free and worth a watch. Interestingly, Francine wanted to plead self-defense, she insisted she wasn't crazy and had acted rationally to save herself, but her lawyer didn't think the jury would buy it, so he went with temporary insanity.
Radio Stations refused to play it unless she changed the words. Martina McBride held her ground. This song is the anthem for anyone in a DV situation !!
Martina sings so many heavy songs, yet they’re all beautiful. Gods will, Concrete Angel, I’m Gonna Love You Through It, Anyway, Wild Angels, there are so many good ones. And no one sings like that.
I lived this story but it had a happier ending, my mom left with us five children before a tragedy could happen. There is always hope and a way to survive. Don't be afraid to seek help to break free. It has made me a survivor in life.
Not a celebration of the Independence for the United States BUT a Declaration of Independence for a woman and her child! Thank you for your reaction kind sir! #IWASABUSEDALSO #NOWIAMFREE
Being a survivor of Domestic Violence I can relate to this song so much. Thankfully I was able to finally escape from my abuser, years ago. Yes please teach your daughters to not be with men like that
I am leaving a Domestic Violence Shelter soon and moving into subsidized housing and restarting after abuse. I am thankful that I and the other women in the shelter have a safe place to help.❤ although this wasn’t the patriotic hymn you were looking for, it is a great song and a great source of strength
My dad got too angry on Mother’s Day 2012 and the evidence on my older sister got him placed under house arrest for 4-5 months, court mandated anger management classes and counseling. My older sister and I were always terrified that one day the whole family would not exist. With how small my hometown is, not a lot of people were happy with him. My sisters and I always wondered why our mom stuck around. Now grown up and seeing things the way we do now, we have a better understanding. They are still together and he is still just as quick to anger. Martina got me through the rough nights that’s for sure.
I grew up without a father. I watched my mom and my sister be beaten bloody. They kept leaving but would date basically the same guy with a different name. It never happened to me. For me, it felt that because I was strong, knew my worth, refused to settle, was confident that it made a difference not just in who I chose but in how they acted towards me. My mom and sister always felt they had to have a man to be happy. I never did. I WANTED a man and to be married but I never allowed that desire to overshadow my common sense and my deal breakers. This was just me. My experience. It’s devastating to watch family go through this and not be able to help. Teach your girls to be confident, strong, and to know their value. They can still be feminine and strong. It’s not an either or situation. Keep showing them and their mother what love looks like.❤
My dad wasn't the reason I ended up with an alcoholic, my siblings were. My dad's the reason I knew I deserved better. You're going to be a great influence on your daughters.
She is Awesome & her voice is amazing. She sings from the heart & standing up against child abuse & spousal abuse. Let Freedom Ring, Roll The Stone Away it’s Independents Day ❤️🤍💙🇺🇸

Big words of praise for Mr. Carson.
Every time I hear this song I get tears in my eyes. I am not a person who cries but this song hits so close to home. I grew up with a military dad who was always deployed, and a step dad who was extremely physically and psychologically abusive. I intern grew up to enter a relationship with someone who literally almost ended my life. Now I am constantly trying to show my children how relationships are supposed to be, in hopes that this cycle of abuse ends with me. It is very important for you to show your girls how women are supposed to be treated. Not just with your relationship with them but also with how you treat their mother. I can't emphasize that enough for the men and women in my life, show your kids how relationships are supposed to be so they don't grow up to see toxicity, abuse and neglect as normal.
This song has been a Heartbreakers for many women who have survived DV...me included. I can't tell you how many times I have broken down listening to this song. You've also gotta react to "Broken wing" by Marina Mcbride. It's also amazing! And it's kind of along this same lines.
I love this song. When it came out my daughter was very young, 3 or 4 years old. I listened to CMT a lot. Just turned it on and listened as I cleaned. She would hear the opening notes of This Song and run to stand in front of the TV. Her Dad was/is her Hero. And mine too for a long time. We never fought in front of the kids... They both grew up knowing what a healthy relationship looked like. So when our daughter got into a bad one, she left. The worst was with her daughters father. And won't allow him any place in her baby girls life. Another man publicly claimed that baby, and he is the only one she will ever know as Daddy. And no he and our daughter are not together. But he shows up for holidays, birthdays, and with shoes and clothing. She just turned 5 last month.
I have seen many videos that ask what was the best lesson your father ever taught you. In the past I haven't had an answer. My father was an alcoholic and definitely would not have won dad of the year. However ican sat he taught me to never be a doormat or punching bag for anyone and it is lesson that I definitely took to heart. I have never had a hard time standing up for myself.
I grew up like this. No fire, there wasn't a release until I got married and later my mother gained her freedom. I made certain my SON'S and Daughter knew BETTER. My boys are great Fathers and husbands. My girl, knew when to LEAVE and that she was ALWAYS WELCOME HOME. 😢
I'm in tears.. I've been in that situation and always hoping my son at the time wasn't seeing me being abused.. Just so grateful now that I'm out of that situation and my son is an amazing man now.
Her voice is perfection! She has such a clear, powerful voice. She has the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen! This is a poweful song, and she is so good at storytelling. It is sad that so much of this goes on in our world, and sadly, the children are the forgotten victims of domestic violence between partners. Thanks for the reaction!
What a lot of people don't realize (or forget) is: everyone has their breaking point. If no one is going to listen or help you then sometimes you get to the point where you can't take it anymore and decide that you're the only one you can depend on to change things or you just decide like the mother does to take the person out (unfortunately for her daughter herself as well). I thankfully never got to my breaking point when I was relentlessly bullied for several years. No one would listen they just told me to suck it up, ignore the bullies, and remember that they were just doing it for attention or to make themselves feel better. Before I reached my breaking point I was moved to a new school for high school and few of my bullies were there and those that were couldn't get away with it due to the smaller size of the school. That being said I completely understand the desperation (though being bullied and being a victim of domestic violence is not the same thing, it's just as isolating, and gives you the need for escape)
Bruce Springsteen also has a song called Independence Day from his album, The River. BTW, the song The River, from the same album, is a really great, soulful song
This is one of my favorite songs, no matter the genre. I’m a die hard rocker, but this song hits me in the gut, still all these years later. Those bells in the chorus just seal the deal.
Great reaction. Absolutely, raise your girls to know and expect how they should be treated. In the video, the little girl wasn't taking inspiration from the parade. Look at the expression on her face. The clowns were pretending to hit each other. It upset her so she ran home only to find the house burned down and herself an orphan.
You need to have your wife join you and check out her song "In My Daughter's Eyes". I can't hear it without thinking of my girls, and hope I am that for them. There are so many "father/daughter" songs, but this one is an amazing "mother/daughter" song. I think you will both love it! Martina McBride is just such an amazing artist!!!!
This song came out when I was 4. I remember watching it, not completely understanding it but empathizing with the little girl. One of my first memories of ever being completely sad.
By beautiful cousin always sings about the tough issues that bring attention to those who can’t speak for themselves! Our family is so proud of the God fearing woman she is! ❤

I had read there was a woman who did this around the time Martina wrote this song. I can't remember her name now. As a dv survivor (not long before this came out) this song is really powerful for me. I get chills. I cry sometimes.
This woman is SANGIN! probably top 5 all time Star Spangled Banner proformances! She could sing me the enclopedia and i would listen... just like Ashley mcbryde!
Wonderful reaction! Yes girls tend to marry a man like their father. I certainly did, not that I was looking for one, but I grew up in that abusive environment so there were no warning bells that told me something was wrong, I managed to get away and my late husband was a loving gentle giant and showed my daughters how a man SHOULD treat his wife.
Im from Henderson ky Martina McBride put on a free concert sponsored by Independence bank great show keep thinkn not long after this song released but not sure last 18 months been rough but also a blessing found out 3-20-23 i had cancer as of 7-2-24 cancer still gone i still here ty God
Hey Sebs, just want you to know that I came upon your channel tonight with this song. I've always loved it for the message, Martina's voice and just how powerful it is. I'm 16 years old and the youngest of eight in my family; the only one living at home. I tell you that because I echo your thoughts about the future. My parents never got into this situation because it was never about power over the other one for either of them. They both were career military and loved each other very much. They have taught their daughters -- and their sons -- to value who they are and to value others. We all get that and we love them for that. You are able to do that with your daughters and I have a feeling you will not fail to do so in the future. Always be there for your daughters, even when they become adults I see a parallels in this song. While the Fourth of July represents the independence of our country (and I'm glad you're a part of it now), the term "independence day" has another meaning. Where the parallel comes in is that I can imagine the father in the story as England in the 1770s, the mother being the Colonies, and the daughter being the future of the country. Not a lot of history books note this, but there were so many sacrifices made by colonists -- not just civilian soldiers but families -- that I see the mom sacrificing herself (while taking out the father) so her daughter can start new, just like the United States was able to start new after independence Day (though, not without battles). I hope that makes sense. I'm subscribing. Thanks for a great reaction.
I know you have listened to Pat Benatar before, Her and Martina McBride did a country cross roads show and Pat sang this song. You wont believe the power Pat brings. You should check that out for sure . Keep listening to great music !
If you're looking to react to more Martina McBride, you'd love her live performance of "Where Would You Be" - the vid you would be looking for is from the 2002 CMT Flameworthy Awards and her performance is magnificent..... you would love this song... but you have to see it live!
This is a gorgeous and profound song. It’s probably not what you had in mind if you were looking for a patriotic song. Martina McBride is stunningly talented. 🌸💐✌️
Thank you so much foor being such a good role model for your girls! My daughter is in an abusive relationship for years (they have my 2 granddaughters). She will never leave him even though he hurts the girls too. I have hit him so many times after seeing the bruises. Police said there's nothing i can do! Any man that puts his hands on those weaker than him is a COWARD!!!!!?
The video has one of the most powerful scene ever in a video. Where the little girl is watching the two clowns pretend to hit each other and most of the crowd finds it entertaining but she sees the reality of that in her own life between her parents and shows that emotion on her face.
I told my two sons that no relationship is perfect. There will be good days and there’ll be bad days. It always gets better…BUT leave when there are way more bad days than good. You deserve better.
It is scary raising children. But as long as you raise them with love and respect and open conversation, you’ve set the stage for them to know that there’s always home to come to. ❤

I'm in tears.. I've been in that situation and always hoping my son at the time wasn't seeing me being abused.. Just so grateful now that I'm out of that situation and my son is an amazing man now.
Broken Wing is another phenomenal song to watch
Her voice is perfection! She has such a clear, powerful voice. She has the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen! This is a poweful song, and she is so good at storytelling. It is sad that so much of this goes on in our world, and sadly, the children are the forgotten victims of domestic violence between partners. Thanks for the reaction!
When those stories are told so well though songs and songwriter are the most moving
Martina has sooooo many emotional powerful songs
On June 30th 2003 I got a divorce from and abusive drunk of a man and this song I play it every June 30 it's my Independence Day song and theme.
So happy for you to have gotten yourself out of such a situation. Shows your strength. Prayers & Best wishes to you.
Congrats on your citizenship! Welcome to the fam!
While filming the video, the white shirt Martina wore was actually singed by the fire. Fantastic video.
Martina had one chance to do the “fire” scene. The back of her shirt was covered in burn holes but she refused to stop.
Farah Faucet - The Burning Bed
Fried Green Tomatoes - "Secret's in the Sauce"
I love your raw emotions on this! You have a beautiful heart.
Martina's really into ballads. She loves to belt them out. Most of her songs have a supportive message behind them.
Her voice and songs give me chills every time
Martina can SING, SING!!!
This song has always made me cry.
I am a citizen since 1984 and proud. Love the USA. From Germany originally.
Broken Wings by her is perfection!
I'm in tears! I never experienced this with my parents or in my marriage but my heart breaks for those that do.
Martina is such a powerful singer singing powerful songs
This song breaks my old granny butt everytime; cuz that momma did what she had to do to keep her baby safe😢❤
It's a song about personal war and personal independence and saving her child
Heartbreaking but great song ❤
God bless you and your family! Congratulations👏 an welcome🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Seb ❤
Welcome and congrats for your citizenship.
Love your content, please if you haven’t react too
The Star Bangled Banner story video. It’s a must see even for the many Americans brought up in this country singing this song. It’s a must see God bless you and your family❤🙏
Still think you should hear Gods Will by Martina. It is such a great one as well
Also concrete angel
I remember when this song came out, and all of these years later her voice still makes my eyes wet.
She was burned pretty badly while singing in front of the fire but kept on to get the shot. This video is powerful.
This is a great song...!!! & Martina has some great vocals...has done duets with Vince Gill...love them both...!!!❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶✌️🕊️😎✨✨✨
Im from Henderson ky Martina McBride put on a free concert sponsored by Independence bank great show keep thinkn not long after this song released but not sure last 18 months been rough but also a blessing found out 3-20-23 i had cancer as of 7-2-24 cancer still gone i still here ty God
Her voice just pierces me no matter what she sings!!
Still makes me cry!
A powerful voice I heard live at Farmaid in Columbia SC in noneties.
Always be there for your daughters, even when they become adults
I see a parallels in this song.
I love your analogy. You are incredibly insightful.
@@debbieallan5173 I hadn't thought of that until I saw your reaction. It kind of it me with a title wave. I love the song.
I know you have listened to Pat Benatar before, Her and Martina McBride did a country cross roads show and Pat sang this song. You wont believe the power Pat brings. You should check that out for sure . Keep listening to great music !
I saw her in concert last year and her voice is still amazing!!
If you're looking to react to more Martina McBride, you'd love her live performance of "Where Would You Be" - the vid you would be looking for is from the 2002 CMT Flameworthy Awards and her performance is magnificent..... you would love this song... but you have to see it live!
Love Martina! One of my all time favorite country singers.
So glad you joined us
Martina is amazing! I remember when this came out, radio stations wouldn't play it for a while due to the DV aspect.
This is a gorgeous and profound song. It’s probably not what you had in mind if you were looking for a patriotic song. Martina McBride is stunningly talented. 🌸💐✌️
Another song of hers with a good story of God's Will... great
Message
Martina has some pipes on her. Goosebumps from that chorus
It is scary raising children. But as long as you raise them with love and respect and open conversation, you’ve set the stage for them to know that there’s always home to come to. ❤
This was the 1st Martine song I ever heard.. What a voice
Because of the chorus, this song often gets thought of as a patriotic song, but I think this song carries much more of a story. Great reaction.
