Thank you sir, its been about a year since I fixed my 9.9 Evinrude, enjoyed it quite a lot still going! Great to have people like you share these simple fixes to us DIY people. Thanks a million! Gave me confidence to fix some lower unit problem 3 marine shops couldn't even fix, did it in a day. Hope to upload something for others in return.
Very clear and informative! I have the same engine and would like to pull the powerhead to replace the water intake/output grommets that I believe are clogged. Do you know whether I’d need to disconnect anything else besides what you’ve shown in order to pull the whole head/exhaust assembly?
This guy pretty much nailed it. Had same issues with mine, had replaced fuel pump, impeller, spark plugs, and a melted thermostat twice! It wasn't the fastestest process but after getting a seal kit for the power head the thing started right up. A 1996 Evinrude 9.9 same color too. Compression for mine was around 45 before and after the change.
@@amadosanchez7483 Thanks for sharing! I have never seen any Johnson/evinrudes of that type with more than 50 psi compression! Can be confusing when it should be 90-120 normally
Would the engine crank but not start before you changed the gasket? I have the same issue, overheated and won’t start since. It cranks like it’s supposed to and I get between 60 and 70 psi. Thanks for the video this might just be what I needed!!!
can you show how to clean of mouse nest inside the Carb and intake, my friend vacuum and rebuild the carb, checked spark plug all good but engine won't start, compression checked all good, no gas on spark plug, check carb all gas full inside.
Does the cap on the fuel pump need to be in that exact position in order for the fuel pump to work properly?? Mine is shifted more towards the right side.
Hi Rudi, I'm going to buy an outboard. In your opinion , in the same condition : Evinrude 15 hp '98 vs Yamaha 15 hp '92. What's the best ? Thanks in advance
I’d have to go with the evinrude mainly because I don’t have a lot of experience with the Yamaha and I know evinrude to be of excellent quality in that year and hp

Great to hear! All the best
Thanks for uploading this. I just got a similar motor that does need a head gasket change so I really appreciate you passing on information.
How did you adjust the throttle cable to achieve idle, I have the same (new to me) motor and thats the last hurdle. Great video - thanks, Willie

Nice video. Very informative. Have a Johnson 15 just like this one. Having issues with it running for a few seconds then it shuts off.
Probably not the head gasket. Most likely carb or fuel pump issues
thanks, very interesting and useful video!
Great video👍👍👍 I think I have same problem
Thanks
What do the springs that support the lid look like?
Very instructive video. Thanks a lot!!!!
Just curious, did you get better compression readings after replacing the head gasket?
hi, how did you disconnect the Starter Lockout Cable?
What was the compression readings after the gasket replacement compared to before ?

@@amadosanchez7483 WERADAE YOU USING A GOOD GAUGE THE HARBOR FREIGHT ONES WILL GIVE A LOW READING BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE A SCHRAIDER VALVE ON THE HOSE
@@robertusschouten973 yeah, a couple months later I found out my gauge was bad. Reading went up to 115. So yeah, don’t buy harbor freight gauges!
Hello I have a cuestion. What number of spark use this motor?
You said you cleaned the carburators out. Are there more than one?
Panther Platform no there’s only 1 carburetor no 15 in the world has 2 carbs
@@floridamansgarage8629 I know. I was just curious why you said carburetors.
Would this problem cause backfiring and also lock up the pull cord ? Stalling??
and how much is the torque of this head in Nm

perkfishing the head gasket is the most likely cause of your no start condition.
Rudi Jones thank you sir

No, should be fine. I moved mine quite a lot, didn't have any issues
Did you get it running btw?
Yes it runs. Have to get on the water to adjust idle. Too bad we have a winter 🥶 blast coming this weekend in Chicago.
8:20 shiflock missing on mine. Removed metal rod so it doesn't jab anything.
No gasket sealing compound needed?
No

Ada jual gasket heart Johnson atau evenrod 14 HP?
You also need 3 3 inch graded quarter 20 bolts to pull the flywheel off the kits don’t come with them
My engine start and only goes ob choke.... i cleaned the carburetor with new seals and all that. It did not start
Heads up: torque on the head gasket is 15 ft/lbs. 20 will most likely break the bolts!
No way you just took the head bolts off that easy you cheat
