I have capains chairs in my van and after turning the the seats around I use the area behind the seats, in the foot well, as extra storage for equipment that I won't use while he van is parked.
Hi mel thankyou for sharing your knowledge and experience with people you give me the confidence and idea to convert my vw crafter 2006 x explastering van . I am sorry you had problems with your double swivel seat i purchased one and i have found it to be the 2nd best thing i have brought the service and product was excellent cheers mell
You might be able to find another two-seat in a breakers?
I don’t want two I don’t need two I’m happy with the one 👍
Swivel seats ? iv got one in my van and I’ve got a proper love/hate relationship with it . Yes it’s handy it opens up the back nicely it’s also a pain to swivel and a right farf to re screw back in once turned. This list goes on with what I thinks a pain about them but at the end of the day for me I think the benefits outweigh the awkwardness (just)
Mel you didn’t seem very happy with the end result. Was it due to not having both halves of the seat? Or just frustration at lack of instructions? Good to see you smiling at the end though 👍
A double swivel does make a big difference to the seating in the front of a campervan. I'm sure you can make something to use as a backrest when the seat is swivelled round. My Sprinter had a cut down double seat when we got it, but had a low level toolbox where the missing half a seat was. This was quite handy, except for when you cracked your ankle on it climbing through the gap! As the seat was fixed and the backrest rather upright it made it a bit uncomfortable on anything but a short journey. So we got a single seat instead, I find it much better than the original seat, no more leg cramp and backache! Now considering a swivel to give us a bit more seating in the front and a spot to take off shoes/walking boots before having to go further than the mat inside the slider.
Flipping 'ell, Mel. For large parts of this video it looked like you were trying to tame a wild beast with your bare hands. Taking the back off the middle seat was a terrific idea at the time... otherwise you'd have a broken back right now! 😆
Quality video 👍
Sorry mate but looked better before and your face said so .
Great stuff Mel, I dont even have a van but enjoy watching ur stuff (one day I may get one)
Awww ☺️ thank you 🙏
Won’t need to extend your flooring as you’ll need to add a wee step shelf below the seat to rest your feet on when swivelled round. Then you can still hide shoes there!!
That’s what I’m thinking about doing soon now that we have used it 👍🤓👍🍻
You start off thinking this job wont take long...never the way..i now have the attitude of i get it done no matter how long it takes..but you should see the wifes face..its a never ending job but i love it.
Hi Mel, I also installed a swivel double seat in my transit, I think it may have come from the same retailer as you , so we won’t mention them. I found the frame a little bent , and things didn’t line up as it should have , but it’s so heavy you don’t want to send it back . I fitted it in the end and it does give you more space ,It is a real chore to turn around, so after a few practices I marked it all up with a gold marker pen (so you can see it on black ) it really helped with best way to rotate ,alignment and screwing those locks in . I’m not locking it when rotated , unless I’m moving. Well done and good luck 👍🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦
My Sprinter had single passenger seat when I bought it so fitting a single swivel was straightforward and transformed the living accommodation. Only downside, and it became a positive, was I had to make a box to raise the floor so passengers legs weren't dangling ..... that's now a useful tool and storage box. When turned into the living area we use a folding stool as a footrest and that is also handy for putting up my awning etc. so win win.
I had a swivel seat like that, but mine was a single one,it was a right pain in the rear 😂,in the end I took it out,it sat to high and moved about under braking,so now it just sits on my workshop table collecting dust 😂
Top job Mel, well done....... that extra bit of seat can be used the hound to sleep/snore on! Ha! 👍👍👍
Well done Mel. It arrive damaged with no instructions? Not a great start. Just a note though that the yellow plugs in my Iveco were fine left disconnected when I changed my seats, as the dash warning only came on when a contact was made between pins.
Looks great bud will give you so much room in Mary. This is what I’ve been thinking of doing since living in my van I feel it be nicer to either go to two seats or get my twin on a swivel base, happy to remove that part of the bulk head.
The problem is I have a problem because my diesel heater is on the floor in the cupboard against the bulk head and I installed mine like you did yours just the exhaust pipe going through the floor what might be your suggestions to go about the hole? 😊😊
My Sprinter came with single seats, I put swivels on both of them which makes them higher and at 5'4" my legs feel too short for comfortable long distance driving, cruise control helps though, thinking about removing the drivers swivel as i rarely turn it around anyway.
Yeah definitely makes the seat uncomfortable I’m going to have to make a step for Becky
Looks great Mel 👍
Thank you 🙏
Umm, well if it was me travelling on my own, I would have taken the seat out and refurbished that area into a wardrobe, drawers storage etc. but each to their own! Would even make a great spot for a shitter. 17:50 😊
Well it’s not you is it!! It’s me and my van so I’ll do whatever suits me and a swivel seat suits me and Becky just fine
Name and shame the company- that seat was pants 👍
good vid thanks lee
Hi Mel, top job that man.
I would like to convert an old Ford transit minibus to a campervan . You have should have a swivel base from a motorhome breakers yard
Good luck with that 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld no problems Mel
Top fettling Mel 😀
Strooth mate ..thats a lot of hard work .. must be neeearly time furr a transit ..😂🤣😂😎pip pips n carryon pilgrims
Haha thanks Patrick 🇦🇺🍻🙃
@@BigVanSmallWorld ...😁
Great vlog. I went with the R&J Campers double as it still gives easy access to the under seat storage. It's been a Godsend in opening up the space but also retaining the storage. Over 18 months it has proved to be a great addition and very simple to operate.
great video, how much was that swivel seat plate?
£320 thanks for the positive feedback
Unfortunately they got it right and you got it wrong and a beautiful day if you've been sitting outside having a beer and giving somebody else the headache
well this was a timey video, Mel. I have all my electics under the double passenger seat and am in the process of moving everything under my rock and roll bed so I can have a swivelling front passenger seat too. Of course, moving the electrics might slow that particular job down considerably.
Good luck 🤞
@@BigVanSmallWorld Thank you, Sir. I think I'm going to need it lol -bessy regs- Kenny
Hi Mel, Thank you for another great informative video.
Also, thanks for the replacement sticker (as sticker number 1 didn't arrive).
A quick question. Is your Dometic CRX50 refrigerator still under your woodburner or have you changed for another make/model? I am in the process of building the cabinet and can't seem to find any videos (but your one) about install, dimensions etc.
Keep up the cool vids 👍.
Glad you got the sticker I moved the fridge to under my kitchen ill try showing you on next waffle 👍
COMPLAIN! it will cost them more for you to return it and send another one out than what it will to give you a tenner to straighten it
Great stuff as always Mel,
Thank you Dave 👍🇦🇺🙃🍻
always find applying a little heat helps when straightening metal, shame it arrived damaged but the good things about your vlogs is you show antyhings possible you just got to get on with it and dont let things beat you
Thank you 🙏
Great idea
Thanks 😊
I have the same swivel in my van. Had the worst time trying to get the bottom plate to line up with the fixings but finally got it in place as I was about to give up.
I too did it alone, but took the plates apart to start with. No way I was getting it in still connected together. Just so heavy.
I wish I had installed it after you as I couldn’t fine the way to take the connector apart so I cut the wire and solder it back after sticking it through. Be careful of the wire though, first time I used the swivel, the wire got caught between the plates and severed it. Luckily I saw it before starting the ignition so was able to fix it before getting the warning light.
Enjoying the videos Mel. Thanks for your content.
Emma.
Oh my goodness me let’s hope it’s all worth the efforts involved 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld it’s great now it’s in, don’t get me wrong, but what a palava.
