    Looking good Ian, mine was growing the same way until I got it outside this summer. It's taken right off now and not dropping leaves but I'm wondering if I'll have this problem when I bring it back in. I definitely look forward to updates 👍

    They are semi deciduous the ones I see growing here in Australia. They drop their leaves late spring here then go straight into new growth. I would say yours is going ok.

      ahh cheers. That is interesting. This one seems to be more... im growing a new leaf... so i better drop an old one hahah its a little confused, but at least its growing

    My Delonix trees are doing the exact same thing. They grow really well, but in the same time they are droping leafs. I have 5 trees grown from seeds collected in Tenerife last year

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  2 роки тому +1

      hmm i see. do you have any idea what might cause it? im thinking its either something to do with watering or the acidity levels of the soil

    • @nn843

      @@BackGardenBonsai it s early spring here in Romania, so i think it s because of a little bit of too much moisture and not that much light. I tried to water them less and we got 2 sunny weeks and leafs stopped dropping for now. Considering I planted the seeds in autumn and they just passed through winter without growing lights, I think those two factors were the problem. I’ll see next winter it that really was the problem.

    Hi Ian. A web search showed that every person on earth (it seems) is having exactly the same issue with Delonix Regia.
    Since Jered says that they improve outside, it might be a light spectrum, daylight timing - or air circulation/branch stimulation thing (though I doubt it since you grow under good lighting).
    Funnily enough, I have the exact same issue with black locust (also legumes). They are kept outside all year and endemic to Canada. Another web search showed that this is usually normal and occurs just prior to leaf shed. It seems that on my locusts, each frond only lasts a couple of months before yellowing and dropping off - much more prominent is small weaker plants rather than trees allowed to grow long coarse growth.
    I'm not sure if this will solve the problem. but it won't hurt. Try adding a Mycorrhizal Inoculant to your soil - one that works with legumes. This may help fortify the roots. Good luck!

      @BackGardenBonsai  2 роки тому +2

      cheers Sue. maybe it is doing this. especially since its still small/young/weak. and yes, mycorrhiza is always going to help any plant. i might give that a go and see if improves any.

    Broski!!! I would try putting it outside. The Delonix I put out in late Spring have had no issues. My inside trees are doing the same annoying leaf drop over and over again. Sometimes due to insects other times I have no clue😳😅😢

      I had that thought too…maybe they just want some fresh air?

      ahhhh maybe i am not convinced that will be better for it as my climate is so waccccck. but maybe i will try. cheers again for sending it!! its a delight. even if it shows me disrespect with its leaf drop haahh

    Huh, frustrating. Fertilizer issue? Sid Pavey’s root grubs? Fungus? Luckily it seems to be growing nonstop to offset the leaf drop.

    Nice movement in that trunk.
    Mine does the exact same thing, leaves yellow and drop, then recovers. I thought like yourself that it was a water issue but I'm not so sure either as they're minded pretty well. They're deciduous, so I thought maybe they're trying to go dormant but get confused coz they're inside..so I put them in the greenhouse....but that changed nada.
    So, nope, I aint got a clue either, I prob cudda just said that in the first sentence. 😅
    Have you noticed how the leaves turn upwards to collect the water when you mist them?, and how they hang downwards at night as if they are sleeping? Its pretty cool.
    I use them to try prove to my kids that it really is bedtime coz the tree is asleep lol

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  2 роки тому +2

      cheers, thats interesting yours do the same. also more interesting about the green house. i really dont think its the watering, im sure it will make sense at some point hahah
      but yes its cool how the leaves move throughout the day

    The good news is it's growing well, so if it's probably fine. I don't have any Delonix so can't advise from personal experience BUT... Bonsai empire recommends adding in some kanuma to the mix to make it slightly more acidic. Worth a try next spring??

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  2 роки тому +2

      cheers dave. that is pretty much the only thing i havnt checked. i was thinkin to treat it like a lemon and push it a little more towards the acidic side, not as extreme as an azelea, just a pinch of acid, see how it likes that.

    This tree reminds me of a mimosa, does it close its leaves when it needs to? For my mimosa trees, they were also dropping leaves while staying quite healthy otherwise when indoors. During the growing season outdoors, it did not drop leaves anymore. I wonder if it is the same with the Delonix

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  2 роки тому +3

      cheers, yeah its closes its leaves. they look very similar to mimosas, im not sure how similar they in other aspects, but i imagine they are pretty close

    I just sprouted my first delonix, 2 weeks old right now. Trying to be proactive instead of reactive, its been some time since you dropped this video and I’ll have to check your channel to see if there is an update. But just incase there isn’t, did you end up finding a solution to this problem?

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  5 місяців тому +1

      no, it just seems to keep doing it. it has gotten less dramatic.
      it does also seem to be a deciduous, even tho every one says they are not. so who knows.
      main thing is that it is continually growing, so i will have to assume this is just waht it does, although i do have a feeling it is more to do with its growing conditions than the tree itself.
