The scale of this tree is awesome - when pruned up, it really takes on a a majestic form. Love the root flair - really gives that impression of age. After watching this series, I think I may need to find a privet myself😁

Love all your videos, thanks for sharing them with us. I find it funny when you talk about the potential a tree has and how much better it will look, while I'm sitting here wishing I had a tree that looked as good as this one does now 😅
cheers, that is the curse of all this ...you are never happy and always looking to improve things haha its easy to forget this came from a twig so it has already developed like crazy ...but i will always want more :)

This privet is looking great.
One I have was healthy and a week after it started leafing out this spring I trunk chopped it since it had no lower branches.
Now it continues to be a stump, no growth, the cambium is still green and the trunk chop has callus from healing. No back budding.
Ever had anything like this happen?
Cheers, i would have pruned it before it started waking up, but its a bit later for that, so really all you can do is wait.
privet is pretty tough so it should bounce back, its just gonna be having a bit of a panic attack for now.
just give it time and keep it watered and it will hopefully bud again. the callusing is a good sign tho!

Iv had a couple of private cuttings for at least 2 years now and they’re still matchstick thin! Do you strike cuttings from hard wood?
this was just a twig snapped off some ones hedge as i walked past their house lol. it in November.
but they are slow to thicken. you have to let them really grow out, like ridiculously long, and even then they are slow to thicken. if you want the real beefy ones, get an old hedge that is being removed. they are old, but exactly what we want.
