  • This is how I have prepared this years soil mix for my medium size deciduous bonsai trees.
The best soil mix to use is pretty much depending on your care and climate but also on available products and tree species. My mix is changing a little every year in the quest of finding the perfect mix. I strongly suggest that everyone do the same, search your own best mix.

For a product that is local to North-Western Europe, moler clay is surprisingly difficult to find. Meanwhile Japanese substrates are found anywhere on Earth that bonsai is mentioned, though at a price.
I have found once some affordable zeolite on ebay, sold for use in aquariums. Awesome product with a balanced ph, ideal for bonsi substrates - if you find appropriate particle sizes.

I found it quite easy to find moler clay in sweden. I just sent a mail to the company that runs the mines in denmark and they gave me contacts to a distributor near me. South of denmark they use a similar product from a mine in Germany called Seramis. That is also an option. Both moler and Seramis is very acidic. But most trees like that.

Thanks Jonas. The audio makes a difference. Imagine watching 4 minutes of sifting in silence. 🤣😂😅

There used to be a webshop called Öken for cactus enthusiasts. I got 25 liters from them before they closed business.
In Germany they use a product of crushed leca. That one is also not awalable in Sweden. But crushing and sifting may be an option?
If you do find the mini ones for sale, please let me know where.👍

Hi Magnus, where do you get the Danish moler clay from in Sweden? As far as I know, the Terramol soil additive is not sold in Sweden. I myself buy an absorbent called Ikasor1030, which moler clay, but tend to have rather small particles.

Yes, this one is quite small size particles and sold as absorbent. The brand name is absodan. I would rather get the bigger fractions sold as pink cat litter in UK, but noone selling it here anymore. I checked with the mining company and they have noone buying bigger fractions than absodan cource in Sweden. They even gave me a quotation on it. Minimum orde 6 tones.🙂👍

@@greenmachinesweden Right, just checked Absodan. It is the same 1-3mm particle size as Ikasorb1030. I bought Terramol from a company in Norway. I was not aware that I had to pay import tax, though, so it came out rather expensive ;-)

Solsikken.dk will send terramol from Denmark to Sweden. But freight is expensive. If I find any retailer in Själland I will go there myself this summer to pick it up.

@@greenmachinesweden yeah! I found that one too, but the shipping cost the Danes ask for is a showstopper. These days I go to Lund from time to time and may also go there if there is a retailer, though the fee to use the bridge is not small.

Please tell me if you find a retailer in Själland. I go to Helsingborg from time to time. The ferry is much cheaper.🙂👍
