Hi David and H, just completed the climb myself last week doing the Lemosho route. Really enjoyed your diary of the journey but what made it stand out over all the other vids I’ve watched is the credit you give to the guides and porters. It was disappointing from the others to gloss over their efforts but you didn’t and even gave a refreshing interview time to your lead guide. I can’t thank my guides and porters enough for getting me through the climb. Well done to you and H
The best Kili video I have seen. Especially David, his narration, the simplicity, the language. It seriously suits me as an ex soldier myself. Love you guys. Thank you.
Great journey, and you surely earned all the service! "Juveniles" just like to make customers satisfied, and with a smile. Hakuna matata. I was there at the Uhuru Peak on Feb. 15th 1989. It is so sad, that there is no snow anymore. In -89 the whole top was covered with snow and ice. We had to walk along a snow path and not to step aside in deep snow. No snow anymore there (you know why). But still a Great Mountain. AND IN AFRICA.
No doubt the summit day was the hardest…16 hours of straight hiking….I am glad we took the northern route to give ourselves the best chance for success.
14 months to get ready is a fair amount of time for preparation. The Northern Route has a high success rate, as it allows you more time to acclimate. ClimbKili was good to us...all we had to do was walk, sleep and eat...good luck!!!
I feel the same about being served so well, it just isn't something Ive ever been comfortable with. But ClimbKili treated us so well. Great video, David. I'm always happy to see Seraphine, too. Also, it's interesting to see a different route. I like the view you had of the mountain on day 2! Congrats, great video again.
Connor, not too cold overall, but the morning of the ascent was around 20 degrees and there was a strong wind. No issues with elevation, but we took the 9 day route, summit on day 8, and took Diamox, a few side effects, tingling fingers and had to take a few more pit stops. Slow is the new fast…enjoy your experience!!!
Hey David - great video! I'm going with ClimbKili in June on the Lemosho route. Was scheduled in February, but went positive (without symptoms) for the Omicron variant. ClimbKili was good to reschedule me without additional fees to June - so I'm still looking forward while training! What were your impressions of the ClimbKili crew?
Matthew - ClimbKili was GREAT!!! The guide, Sara, was exceptionally knowledgeable of mountain and lead his crew of porters very well. Everything on the trip was well coordinated and executed. On the COVID thing, I think that was our greatest hurdle, as the testing requirements seemed to change. Good luck in your Journey to the rooftop of Africa!!!
To clarify, our Guide from Climb Kili was Seraphin JoachIm Matto. Would also highly recommend and would specifically request him to lead us again. He has 250+ Kili Summits. His whole Team was hand picked by him, and it showed.
Really enjoyed the video. Climbed with ClimbKili this past October and loved it.
ClimKilli took great care of us!!!

Congratulations on making it to the summit…no doubt that we could not have done it without the guides and porters!!!!

Thank you, it was an epic hike!!! Having camped with the Army many nights, I now like to camp on my own terms!!!
Well done!
Thank you!!!

Epic hike…must have been really awesome to have done it so long ago!!!
Great video! I am thinking of going in 2024. I am a little concerned about summit day.

Thank you for sharing. I want to do this same one January 2024 for my 55th birthday. Feeling a bit inadequate though lol.

I want to go for my 53rd bday. Gives me 2 years to train. Which I'll need. 😂

What type of bird was that calling at 12:33 on the video? Asking for a friend.
Mocking Bird.
@@Milemarker123 Thank you; was unaware that the Mocking Bird's range included Tanzania.
@@hshindle1422 it was temporarily imported from Virginia Beach
28:00 those views were just awesome!
H making me LOL with "I do my own stunts"
NOT envying those porters!! 🤯
The porters were the hardest working folks on the mountain!!!
Congratulations! Well done.
Thanks Rich!!!
Hi
Is it six day up and six day down?
What is the name of the company that you go with ?
How much does it cost to pay the company?
9 days total, 7 going up, 2 coming down. We used climb killi, they were really good….cost about $3k
Was this Rongai Route? Thanks for your video, I'm going up in two months :)
This was the Northern Route…but the Rongai and Northern Routes do go up the same side to Gilman’s point…enjoy the hike!!!
@@Milemarker123 aah, I see. Thank you and congratulations on your summit. Giddy up!
Climbing next week....how was the cold? Also, you both seemed to handle the altitude very well. Was it Diamox and slowly slowly??
