- Transporting a 175-pound tortoise is no easy feat… A major thank you to my mom (and vet staff) for being so helpful in transporting this big guy around.
Tiptoe is happy and home! We will be waiting for the next few days for results, but nothing crazy out of the ordinary has popped up! That is great news!!
Thank you guys so much for all of the love and support, truly shows how loved this big guy is :)

Poor Tiptoe looks pretty unhappy, although he did seem to perk up a bit when he realized he was home. You’re a great mom, Caitlin!
The tortoise will always be unhappy and suffer repeated respiratory problems while it is being kept in these conditions.
Tiptoe is a desert dwelling Sulcata tortoise who needs plenty of room and the ability to burrow. Keeping a giant tortoise in a heated wooden box in a barren suburban garden is cruel and certainly not in the best interests of the animal

There are those of us, like Caitlin, who have adopted previously purchased sulcatas and we're doing the best we can to give them the life and care they deserve 🐢💕 Then there are the breeders that are perpetuating the problem.... Selling cute baby tiny torts to uneducated buyers that don't know what they're getting into. We need more people to advocate for rescue organizations and adoptions, so people stop purchasing animals at a store... ADOPT DON'T SHOP!

There’s plenty of people in Florida who have Sulcata and Galapagos tortoises and these are people who are very educated about both these types of tortoises. And many of the people keep theirs the same way that Tip Toe is being kept. I do know that they love spineless cactus. Kenan at Kamp Kenan has the spineless cactus. He also has the other kind, but this is easier for us to handle. It appears to me that Tip Toe is in very good hands.

I’m a 71 year old Vietnam Veteran and can’t believe I’m vicariously attached to a tortoise and his friend. I’m genuinely concerned about his condition and praying for the guy. Y’all take care glad things are better.

Yes, they definitely know their people's voices. Every time I say hello to my little Russie, she looks around and stretches her neck/head up really high. It's adorable!

Awww Catalin . I can only imagine how relieved you must feel today knowing tiptoe is going to be OK.❤ . I know you will still be worried until the test results come back in the next few days . He has such expressive eyes, I never realized how cute turtles and tortoises are.

Tiptoe was certainly giving signals about his being poked, prodded, sedated and handled in a foreign environment. However, news of his physical issues are on the positive side so far, and Big Tis home, so as long as he eats well and is somewhat active despite the uncomfortable cold and rainy spells, he is thriving. Thriving and being happy is the bottom line for such a big, complex, curious animal!! Sending positive energy for all good results on the medical diagnosis’! ☮️💟❤️🐢❤️
Tiptoe looks much better (if a little dehydrated). His appetite seems to have returned, especially for his flowers. Have fingers crossed it was a minor respiratory infection that has passed.❤❤❤
As I recall, we used to bed half the heated indoor house with alfalfa hay for the African Spur Thighed tortoises at the zoo many years ago.
I think the floor and lower half wall panels were the thick white plastic that is used for shower walls. So we could rinse and disinfect the floor when needed.
The alfalfa hay bedding was checked to remove soiled or dusty bits, and frequently changed out completely for fresh dry alfalfa.
That house had I think four tortoises that shared it and the yard.
This tortoise house was human height so we could walk in a side door to clean and monitor the heating inside.
The tortoises had tortoise height doorways with clear vinyl "strip curtain" pieces. (Like the walk through strip curtains used for industrial doorways or walk-in refrigerators, just abbreviated size)
The tortoise doorways also had solid wood doors that could be propped open by day, and closed and locked overnight.

It isn't perfectly healthy, it's suffering repeated respiratory problems due to inadequate housing and care.

@@modelsteamers671no not at all. He is very well cared for, had the right diet, etc.
The heat lamps and heating pads are perfect for warmth and they is monitored. Turtles are just more inclined to get respiratory infections which can kill if not caught early and treated
My dessert tortoise got one and I took her to the vet pronto. You just never know. Caitlyn does an excellent job of taking care of Tip Toe

Oh bless tiptoe and you catlin ,as tortie owners it's super scary when they are poorly. I see they shaved his beak,he looks so much better already,such sensitive animals. Hopefully he will continue to improve. We can see the relief and joy on your face that he is back at home with loving family❤🐢❤

I think maybe you should get one of those wagons for Tiptoe. They have heavy duty one at Harbor Freight. Get a sturdy plank as a ramp and let him walk up into the back of the car.
Idl what kind of personal car you have but it would probably be a good investment to get a truck so he can just be in the bed because he is going to get bigger. Maybe even a jeep?

Such a good sign he ate the Hibiscus. When he refused it before he went to the vet that was a sure sign he wasn't well.
