I missed USNA'78 graduation to start my 3rd class cruise. I had to get it done, hae some leave, and then come back for three weeks of summer school. I had failed english composition first semester, since I was an engineer.
This was great.. better than Dahlgren Hall in May 1980 when I went to the Ring Dance as a member of USNA '81. We raised a few eyebrows when Lynn Thomas of USNA '83 was my date. She was no longer a plebe after Herndon. We had spent the yer together in the same ECA's, doing perimiters, Pep Band to away football and basketball games, Choir Sunday of course, and then studying every night in the study rooms of Nimitz Library. We had more tine together in that year and the following year, adding humanities classes together as well. She was the love of my lifetime, but I was an idiot and let it go while I was TAD at Annapolis waitin for Nuke School.
I actually went through the disastrous choice of "thinking with the LITTLE head." I began an intimate relationship with a woman from USNA '85, while she was a plebe and I was an Ensign assigned TAD before Nuclear Power School. When the Academy found out , they were not amused. The Vic Admirals's Mast in front of the Superintendent was epic. I lost a half months pay, had a flaming letter of reprimand, then had my orders to Nuclear Power School cancelled until I proved I was worthy .
There were no women in the Brigade when I was at the Academy... Class of 1965.... so I don't know the Academy rules re fraternization, but I did serve with women and did understand those rules in the Fleet. What you did was wrong. The very idea that you put a young woman in this situation shows you to be a person of poor moral quality and I am completely disappointed that the Academy did not boot your ass out! For you to now some 35 years later disclose her name and the circumstances confirms what an ass you are. Reading down, you claim to have had an intimate relationship with a female Plebe after you had graduated. Depending on her age, this may have involved sexual criminality! I am a Retired Submariner. I hope to good God they did not allow you to serve on a boat... indeed I hope that they kicked your sorry butt out of the Navy! *s/Retired 24 Year US Navy Submariener - USNA Class of 1965*
The modern version looks lousy to me. Where is the huge ring under which a Junior officially receives its class rings to have it blessed by dipping it into the "waters of the seven seas," a bowl of water collected from all seven seas?
No ring to go through with your date and no act of dipping the ring on the water of the world´s oceans? Orchestra being replaced by a DJ? Boy this new type of USNA ring dance shure looks cheap.

Damn. I wish I could've gone to the Naval Academy. I didn't start my application soon enough. Now, I'm stuck between OCS/NROTC!

I’m a better DJ than the DJ they booked! I’d look cooler behind that turntable! And I’m considering joining the navy to be a fighter pilot
