Baie moi video. We have been there in 2012. Unfortunately we could not experience such a wonderfull act of nature. Makes one feel homesick. A South African now leaving in Switzerland. Please carry on with your videos.
Rain falls only every 3rd or 5th year for the grass to grow. There can be up to 6 or 7 eyars of drought. Sossus can fill from the Tsauchab river when there is no rain bur the rain falls on the escarpment 100 kms away!
Nog 'n fantastiese video Johann! Nog NOOIT water in Sossus- of Cessna vlei gesien nie... Raar inderdaad, jy is baie bevoorreg. Baie dankie dat jy hierdie deel, uitstekende video hoor

What is the type of vegetation there? Plants are quite lesser in number.. do wild animals exist there? But.. it's a beautiful land😃
There are camelthorn trees ( acacia Erioloba) of which the pods are eaten an then different types of grass. Wildlife is oryx, springbuck and ostrich.

Baie dankie Elizma!! Dit was n besonderse ervaring!
seems to me like seasonal floods could be captured in dams and used for irrigation and pasture land with a series of large earthen dams.
This a a highly protected area just reserved for conservation, and although there is plenty of fertile land, it will never happen!
@@johannvanschalkwyk2991 - washouts conserve nothing....
Absoluut fantasties!!
Baie dankie Roshwitha!! Jammer ek reply nou eers!
Is this the only time rain falls in measurable amounts in this area? Is there any way to slow the water and make it do more work?

Every five or 6 years it can happen. Sometimes it takes as long as 10 years!
