YO I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW THIS NOTIFICATION BOLT THROWER FOR LIFE BABY!! 😭😭
Happy y’all getting y’all’s request done
I never of heard this band before so ima check them out 🤘
@@brezz6759 This album in particular is a masterpiece. It covers a soldiers perspective of battle in WWI from the moment of engagement to the aftermath of surviving the battle
I did what I could over on Patreon, upvoting every single comment mentioning them and noting as such. Hopefully that helped, but even if it didn't, we're here, and that's what matters.
SAME!!!!
Same 💀💀
I'm so happy you loved the drums on this. They were played by Martin Kearns, who tragically passed in 2015. I played with him in a pre Bolt Thrower band (he joined in 1994) and he was genuinely a nice bloke. Last time I saw him he said he had bought a bass to learn that.
I said "is it because it has 4 strings and not 6 so you thought it would be a third easier?"
He said "Yep!"
I replied "I doesn't work like that though, does it?"
He said "nope" and we both started laughing.
He would have been so happy a channel the size of yours dug his groove.
RIP Kiddie.
Thank you for your comment. Kiddie and Bolt Thrower will be always in our heart.
Respect. RIP
Thanks for that comment, Kevin. He's solid like Menza.
RIP kiddie
Nice memories
Bolt Thrower's bassist is a woman - Jo Bench, one of the first females to play extreme/ death metal.
Martin Kearns (drums) was the drummer on this record in 2005 - he passed away in 2015... Bolt Thrower ended right after in 2016.
Hailing from the UK, Bolt Thrower made extreme metal based on themes of war... their 1989 album 'Realm of Chaos' was a landmark record in the death metal genre, alongside extreme metal bands from the UK, like Napalm Death, Carcass... Bolt Thrower consisted of Karl Willetts (vocals), Gavin Ward & Barry 'Baz' Thomson (guitars), Jo Bench (bass)... Andy Whale (drums) was an early member. Willets left the band around 1995, as did Whale... Martin Kearns (drums) played w/ Bolt Thrower at the time... The band carried on recording past 2000, before Karl Willetts (vocals) rejoined Bolt Thrower for this 2005 album 'Those once loyal'... it would be their last record. They felt that record was a creative peak, and decided not to record another album.
Drummer Martin 'Kiddie' Kearns died unexpectedly at age 38 in 2015, and Bolt Thrower ended in 2016 after refusing to replace him.
They also are famous for sending immense amounts of cease and desists to Mexican T Shirt bootleggers with minimal results
Jo Bench is sooooo underappreciated. She's a beast. Jo on Anti Tank Dead Armour is just *chef's kiss*
Sabina Klassen ftw too
@@johnran6015 LOL mexican merch bootlegs are the best
"Bolt Thrower made extreme metal based on themes of war" the later stuff yes, but their early albums and the band in general was inspired by the table top game Warhammer 40k.
Bolt Thrower is one of my favorite death metal bands. Their later material is a lot like this. Solid, midtempo, groovy, riff heavy, crisp, tank metal that just methodically crushes. The production is immaculate. Colin Richardson is surgically bright and precise in his production style, opting for crystal clarity and percussive oblivion.
The band writes a lot about war. Sometimes introspective, sometimes like a field manual or textbook.
Death metal is a spectrum. On one end you have muddy sloppy gore like Cannibal Corpse and the other end is this.
My favorite song is Cenotaph. Riff monster. The vocals are always deep, harsh, and buried just enough to provide rhythm and texture without distraction.
I'm so happy yall found this band.
Clearly you haven’t listened to Cannibal Corpse in a few decades.. lol. The first few records match that description, but they have steadily become more and more technical and precise in their brutality.
@@MetallIstKrieg Indeed. I haven't heard their last few albums but I used to rock Evisceration Plague, The Wretched Spawn and Gore Obsessed lots years ago. If anything it reminds me of early to mid 90s Morbid Angel with more blast beats lol.
Cannibal Corpse is definitely not sloppy
Collin Richardson wasn't the producer of their last albums...
@@MetallIstKrieg i think dude talks about lyrics, at least i got it that way. that being said, id say war lyrics are in the midle of spectrum. the oposite end would be some philosophical themes or even political, and theres lot of those in some death metal.
Bolt Thrower riffs are like the greatest hip-hop beats : short loops but it could go for hours.
Bolt Thrower is the band with the best riffs I've ever heard.
Whole album -- and discography -- kills. Special band!
The simplicity of the lyrics reflects the inhumanity of war in a way: brutal, heartless, impersonal, destructive and unartful.
Bolt Thrower has been one of my favorite bands since the 80s. I always thought they were highly underrated. They have some amazing songs! So it's very cool to see some people from outside the genre enjoying their music as well. Tip of the hat to you two.
The whole album is a masterpiece 🤘
Everything about Bolt Thrower is a masterpiece in my opinion.
This entire album is like this. Strongly recommend more listens from this album. It's also their last album (2005) and they've not released anything more since. They went out on top. A true masterpiece of groovy war-themed death metal!🤘
Nor will they, in all likelihood, after Martin's death. RIP, saucy one.
(plus there's Memoriam now--but I guess who knows?)
well, bands like jungle rot are picking up the slack a bit.
@@chrisstory563 Eh Jungle Rot never sounded like BT and their new stuff is going in a faster less groove oriented direction. Frozen Soul is probably the closest thing
@@187Wretched of course they're not but like BT they do have a lot of war theme base lyrics with some occasional political rant lyrics.
@@chrisstory563Yeah that’s true. Don’t get me wrong Jungle Rot is sick. I would love to see them react to Misplaced Anger
At First Light off this same album is one of my all time favorites. If not that, The IVth Crusade is another great Bolt Thrower song.
Some bands/songs make you have to drop everything when they enter the Lost In Vegas realm. Bolt Thrower is one such band. I've been thinking for ages that in spite of the growls they should love some Bolt Thrower. Now, let's see what they think....
You guys appreciate the little moments in metal. You understand.
Whole album crushes front to back. One of best swansong albums in extreme metal.
Bolt Thrower - Anti Tank (Dead Armour)
This is The Killchain on steroids of everything you liked about Bolt Thrower
Agreed. ANTI-TANK (DEAD ARMOUR) is the peak of this album
Bang on. Best song on the album and one of the best they ever did. Gets played at serious volume whenever I give this album a turn. Killer song.
When they played it live when I saw them in Leeds, I nearly moshed my head off my shoulders.
OUTGUNNED, OUTNUMERED, BUT NEVER OUTCLASSED
Love Bolt Thrower! Something I didn't see mentioned was that fade in intro to this song, that's the "Bolt Thrower riff" that first started from the end of their song "World Eater" on the Realm of Chaos album. They have a song on each album (except ...For Victory I believe) that starts and/or ends with that same riff...
World Eater (Realm of Chaos)
Cenotaph (War Master)
Embers (IVth Crusade)
Powder Burns (Mercenary)
The Killchain (Those Once Loyal)
They wanted to do a long medley of these songs eventually one day but never got around to it before their drummer Martin Kearns passed away.
If I could recommend "When Cannons Fade" should you guys come back to BT. It's a fitting end to their discography with that final drum outro being the last thing we hear from Martin.
RIP.
The moment you hear that riff fade-in you know it's about to get real, haha
Thanks for the info! I love World Eater; but only after you mentioned it, did I realize the Bolt Thrower riff originates at the end of the song. I was under the impression that the first time they played that riff was Cenotaph. Always called it the Cenotaph riff! Hahaha.
The Bolt Thrower Riff is something my friend would always do during soundchecks at their shows. Usually a couple people per show would recognize it and give props for it.
Been a fan when their 1st album came (yes, I'm that old) and Bolt Thrower is the quintessential long distance driving music.
The greatest death metal band of them all .
This song is from one of the best albums of all time of any genre, every song is an absolute masterpiece.
RIP Kiddie
I feel the same way about Donald Tardy, the drummer for Obituary, he sits in a really cool groove all the time. Chopped in Half and Slowly we Rot are both a masterclass in simplicity done to an incredibly high level, from Obituary.
Slow Death is one of my favorites of all time. I dubbed it jungle metal, as it sounds like the lope of an apex predator lumbering through the jungle.
@@SahriCahri Frozen in Time is a great album, there's a bonus track for Solid State live at the end, it's so good! Drums are killer.
These guys should definitely check out obituary. Mid tempo. But I'm sure the vocals will throw them off. But you never know.
“The IVth Crusade” would’ve been a good choice for them, hope you get to it
Their best album imo
Bolt Thrower “World Eater” is an old-school straight up banger 🤘🏻
I firmly believe that will be too much for them...
@@cuttyr74 I do realize that the blast beat part of the song will be a turn off for them lol. However, the main riff is so 🔥that they still may dig the song overall…
@@MetallIstKrieg I don't think they'll like the production. I think Anti Tank is their best bet, followed by Inside The Wire, or Embers
@@cuttyr74 World Eater ‘94 🙂
@@MetallIstKrieg don't hate me, but I just heard it for the first time, now. Me likey... Still think Anti Tank will be their favorite though.. Ryan will lose his shit over the bass in that song...
Death, Lack of comprehension Telling ya...its bump
I love Bolt Thrower, I have every album. There is nothing technical, or pretentious, about Bolt Thrower. Their skill is in writing great catchy riffs that make your foot tap and head nod. I some feel like metal, and metalheads, have gotten to pretentious these last few years, and Bolt Thrower reminds you that you don't need any of that to write a good song.
World Eater!!!
As an older metal fan, I cant agree more. I believe the old term 'groove' should have never got lost - it's perfect to describe that something a song, any song has.
And I think that's what's Metal is about - hard, heavy, grooving music.
My fiance is a West Texas girl (almost all country and some NKOTB for her taste), and I've explained to her that riffs are what gets people to come back to these songs. There's a reason Megadeth is one of my favorite bands: Dave's riffs are nearly unrivaled. The Killchain just has crazy good riffs and get you pumped up every time.
That being said, you can have your cake and eat it too. Edge of Sanity - Crimson.
Easily digestible death metal
For victory should be your next bolt thrower song. It’s arguably heavier than this one but still grooves like nobodies business
when the middle section kicks in is one of my favourite things in any song, ever.
@@scottmethven5602 It's hair raising
Let's up this comment!
Yesssss They need to react to For victory I know they’ll go crazy on that middle part
Best song ever. When cannons fade is my burial Song together with helvegen from wardruna
Y’all FINALLY did Bolt Thrower!! Hell yes!! Absolute classic band, who don’t get the recognition or credit they deserve! Legends….🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
You can’t help but head bang to any of bolt throwers grooves , simple done perfect . Fav band 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
Happy to see death metal on the channel. As for technical death metal, Archspire recently won the Juno award (Canadian Grammy) for best heavy album of 2021 for their album Bleed the Future.
They just HAVE to do Archspire at one point... I know they probably won't really dig it but I want to know what they think about Ollie's vocals/ vocal style
@@paulr.1961 Yes. Calamus Will Animate might be of particular interest since its intro is based on Tech N9ne's "Stamina".
Archspire are garbage. Please, of all the tech death bands they could do, let it not be THIS one. They are the culmination of everything terrible about modern tech death. The technicality of a tech death band should push forward the expression of a song rather than being the main point of the music. Archspire is pure wank.
It's hard to argue with Bolt Thrower.
They are basically the AC/DC of death metal.
\M/
AC/DC, Bolt Thrower, Obituary, Sodom, the kind of bands that always give you what you expect and I'm not really mad about it
Yikes, the AC/CD of death metal sounds more like the Poison of thrash, with some guy having a bad case of bad pipes.
That's a great analogy.
@@keyserfunk he just made a bad analogy. Bolt thrower is more like the dream theater of death metal ;). Embodies the genre but never really changes it. Still great if you love the genre
@@lifesagame3571 No, he made a perfect analogy, the guy you replied to sounds like one of those edgy nerds that can only like a band if someone tells them to.
One of the greatest death metal bands ever! This song always gives me chills. RIP Martin Kearns.
George "I don't mind repetition as long as I like what's being repeated. "
Me "more Ministry reactions please!"
Groove death extraordinaire!
Love Bolt Thrower, like many have said especially When Cannons Fade from this album.
Other greats: Mercenary, Sixth Chapter, The IVth Crusade and As The World Burns.
Bolt Thrower is my favorite Death Metal band, and this is my favorite of their albums. I've been watching you guys for about 4 years and as a metalhead and Vegas local I'm THRILLED you guys liked this song. It was such a pleasant surprise to hear you raving about so much in this song. Keep an open mind always, and Hail Heavy Metal \m/
Bolt Thrower is the best death metal band ever. So pumped to see this video up! This is the first Bolt Thrower song I ever heard. I’m gonna recommend you check out “War/Remembrance” or “The IVth Crusade” for more songs from them. Pretty much everything before 4th Crusade sounds very similar to this. Chugging, mid-tempo death metal. This album with the Killchain is their grooviest album by far.
Nah.
Best death metal band is Immolation.
@@dragonballfanscantread2383 no, Nile is.
:)
All 3 are great.
@@dragonballfanscantread2383 Immolation is my fave!
@@bobby_c07
Nile aren't anywhere close to being the best death metal band.
Rest in peace to their drummer. The true engine of Bolt Thrower.
I suggest checking out their album "For Victory" especially the title track. Awesome, awesome album.
Couldn't click on faster. Bolt Thrower might be the best DM band to recommend for non DM listeners. Catchy, groovy, riffs that hit like a truck.
Bolt Thrower! Hell yeah! One of the best of the best death metal bands.
That RIFFFFFF! This is my kinda death metal and, to a degree it's hard to say what separates em, but I can't help but love these guys more than a lotta other bands in the genre.
Sometimes that's just the case but with Bolt Thrower that groove is a big part of what makes it work.
Omg, so excited you guys reviewed this. I have suggested it to you a few times. If you like this song, you will pretty much like every song by them. The same recipe in their discography that does take talent to play. Thanks so much for giving them a chance
I'm going out on a limb here, but for pure musicianship, in a heavy and wide range of musicality, please please please check out Heartwork, by Carcass
i love old school death metal.... also british bands... but carcass is the only death metal-band i hate. i can't listen. it is the sound. and the vocals... i think. i like more the style of obituary, bolt thrower and swedish death metal bands... i am a prog-fan, but death metal i want directly and brutal in your face... and a killer sound... this is the reason, that the late works of Death are not mine.. (but everything is individual, my opinion is only for me) and still i always think, why is this so. why love different people different music and what are the musically reasons....
Absolute essential classic
@@Metalpresse I like Death up until the human album. His voice really killed it for me after that
Yes!
Up up up up up
You should check out "Salvo" from the same album, that track KILLS.
BUM BUM BUM BUM BUM......"THE FINAL SACRIFICE..."
Sure does. Anti-Tank too.
Salvo is so damn underrated
Worst track on the album
Please, please, please!!!! When Cannons Fade next. The perfect ending track to one of the most consistent and crushing discographies! I'd also propose basically any song off of the IVth Crusade, which is probably the best mid tempo Death Metal album ever produced, in my opinion. From that album though, I think Icon and Embers are particular standouts.
Bolt Thrower is so good, glad you like!
Holy Shit! Finally Bolt Thrower. My favorite Death Metal Band and in my personal Top 5 most importent Bands of all time.
I would highly recommend "for Victory" of the same titled album.
Love your content!
Also, Ryan: this lyrical approach is very death metal. Phrases and feeling in short lines are part of the style.
This. It's also kinda thrash metal when you think about it.
@@pablochacon666 Death Metal was an evolution of thrash, makes perfect sense.
Bolt Thrower has always been a cut above. I was giddy when I saw this come through.
I just wish to thank you for making this video. You guys made very kind comments about one of the bands that I love. It is very uplifting to see you enjoying and showing respect for a music style that is "not your thing". I will come here in your channel again and again, you guys rock!
I have been into Bolt Thrower since the beginning, got to see them live here in the UK in the 80s and 90s ,fantastic to see them getting more exposure
WHERE NEXT TO CONQUER
Bolt Thrower constructed some of the best riffs and heavy groove death metal of all time. They were amazing, and I am lucky enough to say I saw them live \m/
love the conversation about appreciating for what it is and what it's trying to accomplish vs. needing everything to be a battle with each other. All types of metal bring different types of emotions across the wide spectrum and that's why it's great
Love Bolt Thrower. As a bassist, Jo Bench was one of my faves growing up.
next to death, bolt thrower is perhaps the most consistantly great death metal band. i personally think the IV crusade is their best song and best album. warmaster is great too. cenotaph is a great track too.
I haven't had the chance to watch this yet, but I can't wait to see what you guys think of this. This song kicks major ass. The band in general has a very distinctive sound that is instantly recognizable. Those guitar tones and that voice...
Lol, I can't believe you're doing Bolt Thrower. Really expected it'd lose you as soon as the vocals kicked in, but you guys actually enjoying the track makes me super happy. Bolt Thrower is about as no frills and rock solid as death metal comes, so it's rad that your metal journey has led you to being open to even this kinda stuff. This whole album is full of midtempo bangers.
Wow, never expected to see bolt thrower on here. Respect!
Man. I missed your guys channel. I found you even before the Megadeth blow up. Then "Lost" touch. You guys are the best. You have the best aura of "man... I'd like to be friends with these guys" out of all the reactors out there. Phoenix metalhead a few hundred miles south of y'all. Cheers!
Hell yes the almighty bolt thrower, another song you all should do is no guts, no glory

I Listen to metal since 30 years!! i love when people cross rhe music and stop thinking in boxes!! i think the Song is danceable😉🤘🤘🤘🤘Greetings from Metal germany🇩🇪🇺🇲
I appreciate you guys gave Bolt Thrower a chance. They are one of the few bands that don't have a single bad album. I recommend listening to Anti Tank Dead Armour, Mercenary, Spearhead, the 4th crusade. Can't go wrong with any to be honest.
Yes! I've been waiting so long for you to finally get to Bolt Thrower! I knew you'd love the groove of this song but wasn't sure if the vocals would take you out of it, I'm glad they didn't! If you ever revisit Bolt Thrower you gotta do When Cannons Fade, there's a lot more variation in that one. This is a more basic catchy track that's put in the middle of an album with a lot more stuff going on.
Agree 100%. When Cannons Fade brings the variety they would appreciate.
Yeah also the 4th crusade, For Victory and No Guts No Glory
Maybe at first light too, love this whole album
I personally really liked Those Once Loyal.
Although personally, the vocals CAN take me out of it at times.
This is the second grooviest death metal song ever written.
The grooviest one is "Anti-Tank (Dead Armour)" which is also on this album.
Stoked to see you guys review this one. One of my favorite bands ever. Have all their albums on vinyl and in my opinion, this is their best. Every track crushes and there isn’t a weak point on the whole record.
I saw Bolt Thrower live in the 90s and they had the best sound out of any metal band I have seen.
If you do more Bolt Thrower, check out The 4th Crusade and What Dwells Within. Easily two of their best songs
If y’all go more into Bolt Thrower, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. All their stuff is like this. They keep it simple, potent, with just enough variation to keep it interesting. They always have good grooves and a certain vibe. They were never about reinventing the death metal wheel.
Nope, listen to “in battle there is no law”. Their debut which is unlike anything that followed.
BOLT THROWER!!!!!!!! LEGENDS! Masters of riding the groove, and riffs thst just roll like a tank crushing bodies!!!

Great request. Finality is another song I’d love to see them react to
Killchain, Spearhead, Cenotaph, World Eater, this is what Bolt Thrower does. They are the bulldozer of death metal, relentless and crushing. Best band ever and the only band I’ve ever experienced that has no weak songs, let alone no weak albums. Flawless.
NO GUTS..NO GLORY..!!!!!!
Bolt Thrower!!!

So pumped to see you guys doin' the mighty Bolt Thrower. Nice job lads! So many artists in the genre worth exploring and there will be more artists you dig!
One of my all-time favorite Death Metal bands! Still sadly underrated.
They definitely had more of a groove than most Death Metal.
No way! I love Bolt Thrower! I've got their albums on rotation in my car right now :)
Man I wish I could go back and get in to metal all over again. Such a cool time hearing and learning about all kinds of different sounds that I had never heard before. Love watching you guys move through that same journey!
Great band and going by everything I've ever heard of them: Really great people. There's this great interview with Rotting Christ where they're asked what their favorite band to ever have toured with was and they start by saying they don't really rate all the bands and so many of them have been great. Then they still decide to just name drop Bolt Thrower as the one they could say stood out from the rest as the best band they've toured with. Rotting Christ also seem super chill so them giving that credit to Bolt Thrower just warmed my heart :) Good reaction, glad you liked them!
I absolutely love Bolt Thrower! Thank you for reviewing them!!! KD
Thanks or doing Bolt Thrower! One of my all time favourite bands. For me they are up there with Black Sabbath in terms of my personal favourites. I really think you would enjoy the album "The IVth Crusade". Its abit slower but veeery groovy. Check out "This Time Its War" or "Icon". The fun thing is that they dont have a single bad album. For being Death metal they were extremely consistent with their style and are praised accordingly.
Edit: I agree with someone else commenting about doing "When Cannons Fade", I think thats a perfect song for you guys with one of my all time favourite outros.
IVth is my favorite from them. I can listen to it over and over
Spearhead extended cut, World Eater. Oh man. Da best!!!
You gotta check out more Bolt Thrower. They're old stuff is kinda different, but very ground breaking for its time. Their midway point is my favorite. The albums 'Mercernary' and 'For Victory' are great
Bolt Thrower is a different kind of a death metal band. It's one that metalheads that listen to nothing else but Manowar and Judas Priest will love and play on repeat (judging by people who I know). I think that it is because they are so groovy/rhythm based but also sorta melodic, and while the vocal is so strong/heavy but you can understand him and how he fits with the music, add the solos and it makes for a unique experience. Love them since the first time I've heard them and are on constant rotation at home since 1996. Their last album (from which comes this track) is their masterpiece, bar none. I cannot point to a weak song here, whereas their other albums there's always this one track that sounds sorta like a filler.
You really need to dig a bit more into these "less popular" bands (in quotations cause BT are well known name where I am coming from), there are some amazing gems and it will be a trip for you and people that listen to you but had never experienced said bands (here I can dump a bunch of names, but I'm sure you have plenty on your plate already. I really only hope for Coroner, that's it).
Semtex revolution!
The drummer is named Martin Kearns. Sadly, his death several years ago put an end to the band, as the rest of the members elected to end the band.
Bolt Thrower made groovy, riffy death metal. The perfect mood music to drive a tank to.
Friggin love you dudes! Always make me smile!
I knew you would groove on Bolt Thrower. Nice one!
This is one i have been waiting for! When the cannons fade is dope as well
Edit: playlist? Really? Daaayum, did not expect that. If you liked this one,i would bet one of my fingers that you guys would definitly like when the cannons fade (Bolt thrower is my favorite death metalband btw)
Anti tank!!!
Great band. One of the catchiest riffs of all time.
Wow, I'm amazed you guys did Bolt Thrower. And a great choice. Also from this album "anti-tank" and "granite wall" are superb. Oh yeah, this song live in 2006 on rock hard festival was sped up and it's murderous. You guys should check it out.
If you like this style. Great rhythmic crunchy riffs and growly vocals, Carcass is amazing - Keep on Rotting In The Free World, Black Star, R*&K the vote to name a few. they even have a new album coming out in September.
If you liked this you should check out some of Asphyx too. They love a death groove riff
For Victory is another absolutely killer Bolt Thrower song.
This is subtle (Lo-Fi) Bolt Thrower to me. Killer Groove. They can get intricate, but always has a killer groove. And a better singer dosen't always mean a better frontman. One thing my wife taught me was that singers are playing their instrument. Vocals being an instrument was hard for me to get my head around, but over time, I get it. Peace!!!
Bolt thrower is quintessential death metal
Didn't expect you guys to like Bolt Thrower, that actually opens up the doors to a lot of other death metal I feel. Maybe some Immolation?
Yes! Immolation!
