I’m reminded of my father every time I hear this song. I’m a n*gga but on god this 🔥🔥🔥🔥😭😭😭😭😭. Real rap no cap Mr. Ricky Van Shelton. This the one sir fasho.
My daddy passed away when I was 4 years old, so I missed out on a lot of life’s lessons from a daddy. I’ve always wanted to be a daddy’s girl and have a special bond with my daddy, I’m sure we had a special bond when he was living. I miss him so much!! But my great uncle and 2nd cousin taught me how to drive and taught me how to drive a stick shift. I have/had a great family, some have passed on and I cherish the ones that I still have with me.
This definitely strikes a nerve. Daddy died when I was 8. He was 41. I just turned 40. Oh gosh how I miss him. I wished I could show him his granddaughters. He would be so proud.
I am the son of a hardworking, honest, and genuine black African immigrant. This song is far from the music either of us listen too. however I remember being a child and my father playing this jus a boy and his superhero literally at that time. i didn't understand the lyrics back then but as I get older and my pops gets older it just hits different. A lot of my friends didn't have their pops present, I was fortunate and owe that man that world for raising me from a boy to a man. I feel the words in this my heart.
WHY do you always have to put your race into. We don't give a damn what your race is. Music is music and music has no color. Y'all just st keep the race baiting going when y'all post race in it. No one cares, black isn't the only race out there, there's other races as well. Y'all ain't the only race.
This song brings back memories of my dad, too. He passed away in 2019. Today’s country is great, but there’s really something about the stuff that came out in the early 90’s.
Dad's been gone for 33 years now, but remember him letting me drive as a young teenager and getting keys to the family car, before it was legal for me to drive, because he trusted me. When observing different things in life, he instilled a lot a lot of values of life and respect in me, that I'm so grateful for in this current world. Miss him so much.
This song speakes volumes to me as my DaD taught me how to drive at the age of 7. I lost him last year and I miss him dearly. Love you DAD and can hardly wait to see you again in heaven!
My dad taught me how to drive a stick shift out on a diet road. And years later I was the one who taught my kids how to drive. Wish he could be hear to meet his grandkids. RIP Dad
I wish he would record some new material. What a great songwriter, recording artist and musician. My mom was a huge fan until she passed unexpectedly from a heart attack. Growing up I didn't wanna listen to this type of music, ROCK ONLY I said but now it all makes sense , reminds me of her and is beautiful.
I was 43 when my only son of 3 children was born. That same year, my Mom and Pop passed away within two months of each other. I feel so blessed to have been their son, and to be my little boys dad (and my girls too of course)! With the exception of the “mommy being gone” part, this song is spot on! Brings back memories from when I was a kid, and puts into perspective just how important it is to truly take in every second we have with the ones we love.
We were were military family I felt alone. I built another family and I might alone after my TBI but my friends and sisters helped me out. DNA all isn't all about family, about the people that have your 6.
I love this song. It's mine and my dad's song. When he started to teach me to drove this was the very first song on the radio that was playing. An everyone since to this day when I drive my dad tells me to keep it between the lines and take my time
Too true. We certainly could use more of this beautiful uplift of the Spirit. I was a Daddy's girl many many moons ago. I didn't know him until he left the military after WW2. I was about 3 yrs old. When he picked me up at the station I cried loudly. He was a stranger abd people were looking. Mother slapped my leg to quiet me. But he said, 'no no she just doesn't know me'. From that moment, mother said I clung to him and became his shadow. It must have been his voice. I know a good one when I hear it Mr Van Shelton.
I remember when my dad taught me how drive our ford I was scared but he was there keep me going and not be afraid. Many attempts I wanted to quit but keep pushing me encouraging me since then I started learning at the age of 16 -18 finally passed my driver license with a breeze. Furthermore then my father taught me how to drive our Jeep that was Manual five speed transmission then to 18 wheeler 🚛 this song means a lot too me.
Never really got to know my real dad but I take pride In knowing now I'm a son he would be proud of especially since he's passed on and truly knows the clap I've been through
I love this song it's page out of my life even today this many years later it still brings me to tears. To me it's a spiritual song something that should be sang at church on fathers day for all the single dads.
@@randyobryan7366 Amen, I agree. My one and only grandson could sing this song to his dad. The are very close and his dad has taught him the love for the outdoors. He is now 24 years old and admires his dad. The have a strong bond with each other and a deep love. It touches me deeply. Every child should have a dad. Happy fathers day to all the dads out there. Love your children, stay in touch with them.
I lost my Dad back on January 25th and this song reminds me of when I was a little boy when my dad learned me how to drive I was only 7 years old one of my greatest memories. LOVE YOU DAD!
I love this song. OMG it reminds me of my dad. He taught me, my mom and sister to drive. I got my license when I was 16yrs old. He had the patience of a Saint. I'm 73 and the memories I have are so wonderful
I love this song. Sure brings wonderful memories of my dad. My dad taught my mom me and my sister to drive. Oh God how I miss dad. My dad lived to be over 92. Dad's been gone 23yrs Nov mom 25 1/2yrs now.
I've had 2 lines of the lyrics stuck in my head the last few days. I had forgotten the rest and who sang it. I had to Google it and it all came back. I remember when this came out. One of my favorites. I did not have a patient teacher like the guy in the video, but I have a very patient Father in Heaven. Songs come back to tell us something or God uses them. Oh Ricky, I don't think you knew how powerful this song was going to be for so many people. Thank you.

I never thought of that in this song together I remember sitting in my dad's lap driving his old F100 I was probably 6 or 7 years old I remember coming around the corner and there's a whole herd of cattle out in the middle of the road and it broke through the fence we went and got the farmer and help them get the cattle back in the Corral and then got back in the truck and I got this drive again 12 great years dad miss you

Today.. 6/3/2024.. I had made a small fire in the backyard to burn off some sticks/branches from the recent storms here in Texas.. I have two boys that I just love.. my youngest (5) came outside and asked what I was doing.. told him I was just burning some sticks in the yard like normal .. something I havent done in a decade or two.. told him I hadn’t done it in awhile and he told me it’d be fine, he does it all the time and that he will “help me out”. He's a Christian music artist today still has great music.
