    I have a SRPC23, which is the 777 with a sunburst dial. I like this everyday watch a lot but I feel that it is too big and chunky compared to the 6309. Why on earth did they have to enlarge it? I bought a Steeldive, which is an "hommage" to the 6105 Willard, for a fraction of the price of a SPB51. I am very pleased with it and the size is so much coherent. With the Seiko turtle, I feel like having my Panerai on the wrist, except that the Pannies were made to be huge watches. Not the Seikos.

    • @WonderofWatches
      @WonderofWatches  3 роки тому +1

      I’m not sure why they increased the size. I also own a Sam Martin 6105 homage and yes I agree it definitely wears neater on the wrist. I don’t mind the turtle size though as it is a diver and the reasonable lug to lug means there’s no overhang. I remember searching forums before buying though to see what people thought of the size and if it wore big or not. I think the srpc23 is a beautiful watch.

      @@WonderofWatches The funny thing when I bought the Steeldive, I thought it was going to be huge. And it is not. Great review 👍.
    The new Willard also adds DiaShield coating to protect the finish on the stainless steel from scratches. It’s very effective. But the downside is that if you do manage a scratch you can’t refinish the brushing or polishing in the normal way...
    I love my save the ocean Turtle 😎. If I got a Willard 6105 it will probably be a Heimdallr homage.

    • @WonderofWatches
      @WonderofWatches  4 роки тому +1

      I didnt know that about the dia shield. I have a San Martin 6105 homage, its bronze but I think its excellent, they do a stainless steel version too. Now I imagine they are all coming from the same factory anyway. Thanks for you comment Craig, Ben.

    • @Leec_1972
      @Leec_1972 4 роки тому

      @@WonderofWatches According to one watchmaker the movements in those are also fake. Very good but under magnification they are seen to be rougher than the gen Seikos. I got a Heimdallr turtle which leaked and I had to jump through hoops to get new gaskets which never materialized I also found the machining of the threads etc to be rough. I should have saved the 300 USD towards a nice King Turtle or Willard reissue.

    • @WonderofWatches
      @WonderofWatches  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, I think you are probably right. The San Martin is really great and I understand it uses a real seiko nh35 but you may be right. I find the action on the crown to be good and everything feels right but I have never examined the movement. However, these homages will never satisfy if its the real thing that you really want. My issue with this reimagination is that it takes too many departures from the original.

      @@Leec_1972
      The movements are real Seiko movements.
      They are actually very cheap when bought in big quantities, so why bother faking them?
      I think your watchmaker is not happy with the rising popularity of Chinese watches.

    • @Leec_1972
      @Leec_1972 3 роки тому

      @@e28forever30 I know they are cheap but nonetheless there are unauthorized copies all over the place. I guess its even cheaper for the Chinese manufacturers just to make a million copies than to order them and possibly wait for delivery. There are a myriad potential reasons.
      I really don't know why but according to watchmakers and experienced modders the copies exist and and are prolific in the Chinese manufacturers watches and under a loupe the unauthorized copies are definitely not as well finished although overall they are very very close.
      Oddly the genuine movements are also made in China as well as other places. I was told a long time ago that it is a thing there to set up clone factories that mimic the authorized ones and make copies of all kinds of products far cheaper and where quality control is quite lax.

    In my opinion the turtle wins hands down! The new slim turtle or Willard is going to be a Shelfer! A sitter, a non moving item, compared to the turtle! Just way over priced. If Seiko lowers it to 600-700.00, then it’s a deal, other than that, I’m sticking with the turtle! Matt

      I agree. The value of W is square shaped dial, slim hands and step out part on the shape near crown. All that make me as owner of SRPE93 and Padi version (subjectively) ready for 700 +/- for black dial W version, but not 1K. For that would be better stretch to higher model range.
