    Hey guys... Yeap been a while. So I am still contemplating the purchase of the Seiko SPB151 (Willard) for my daily, but I decided to get an Oyster Bracelet for my Turtle just to see if this is all I would need. Plus I am more of a bracelet guy anyway so I am happy to put my Turtle on a bracelet.
    I also noticed that there were no videos on the Uncle Seiko Oyster, so opportunity knocks to make another video!
    As mentioned, I purchased this Oyster form Uncle Seiko for $59, which is a great price but Uncle Seiko does mention that this batch of Oysters have pin hole issues... and after studying the bracelet for a while I have found a few. But its a tool watch and its 59 bucks so I'm cool with it since it'll get beat up anyway!
    There are other companies that make these as well like Strapcode sold by Long Island watch at around 79 bucks.
    Either way you can't go wrong with putting an oyster on a Turtle.
    Enjoy!

    It looks just like my Seiko 6306-7001 watch i got back in 1977 when in the Navy. I paid a 124.99 for it at the ships store. That was half of my two-week paycheck. My old Seiko is banged up, finish missing on parts of the bezel, and one scratch on the crystal. It still keeps great time and I have never had it serviced. I still love the Seiko that i have owned for 44 years.

      Great bracelet and as you say really fits the part. If I have a downside to it is that it does make the 777 a heavy watch to wear. On the Uncle Seiko Tropic or Waffle it’s just right (weight wise)

      Thanks... yes that oyster really brings the turtle together.
      I find myself wearing the oyster now when I really use the turtle at sea as a tool... it just feels safe on the wrist as if it belongs with the oyster, but I do switch it to the tropic when chilling out on land.

    I was very surprised that the bracelet was supplied with hollow end- links. if solid end- links had been used instead there might not have been a small gap near the watch head. However having said that, the bracelet was extremely nice, and it really complements the whole look of the watch. Well done!.

    Always love your enthusiastic reviews. While I like uncle seiko’s stuff and seems like a great guy, I suspect (I could be wrong)that many of these aftermarket bracelets and rubber straps come from the same factory. I purchased a waffle strap from him and then compared to an alli express one and they are exactly the same but at a fraction of the price. Maybe coincidence and I just got lucky with the cheaper version. Just saying 🤔

    • @RobertBlanchard
      @RobertBlanchard  Рік тому +1

      In the end someone out there (Chinese manufacturers) can easily copy the Uncle Seiko design and reverse engineer it so it’s exactly the Same, only difference would be the clasp.
      The key is time… so far every rubber strap I have bought from them has withstood the test of time and abuse.
      I also ordered my first tropic from another company and basically threw it away after 2 months of use.
      So it might look the same but the rubber chemistry might be different.
      Either way enjoy your strap!

    Hello sir, may I ask a question here? It is about Smiths and Steinhart. I've purchased a Ocean 39 Explorer after seeing your video, and indeed it is an impeccable watch. So now I am thinking about to get a Smiths Everest 36, but I am kind of worried about the quality. What would you say about the quality (e.g. finishings on dial, hands) of Smiths compared to Steinhart?

    • @RobertBlanchard
      @RobertBlanchard  3 роки тому +1

      Good question... personally I’m waiting for Steinhart to come out with the 1016 homage! (Steinhart if you are listening 👂)
      The Smiths Everest is a great watch. I had an issue with it stopping on me... so instead of sending it back to the UK I opened it up. At first I thought it was the movement but after carefully looking at it it was the second hand that had loosened up and rubbed against the crystal... must have happened sometime when I was doing something with a hammer or something... I wore it for a month in a half straight and loved it.
      I have since given the Everest to my oldest son and he has worn it constantly no issues.
      If I have a complaint about it it’s only because I put it along side an original Rolex 1016.
      The lugs on the The Explorer are straight the lugs on the Everest have a slight curve to them. The Explorer is much more ‘delicate’ looking but much ‘sharper’ looking of the two.
      That said if I would have never seen the original 1016 next to it, the slight curve in the lugs would have never come up.
      It’s a great buy and I would recommend it... will make a great addition to your collection.

      @@RobertBlanchard Thank you for your informative reply!! I'll definitely take a look at the Everest, but even so I do want to see more vintage homages from Steinhart. They have released mostly Rolex Sub homages so far so an Explorer homage would definitely be a killer!

      Yes, I also added the red tip second hand which gives the second hand balance and as an added bonus every Sunday the red square 🟥 rotates in place and brings the whole watch together. I’m always excited when Sunday rolls around😁

    Did you break the Steinhart? It was a beautiful watch, I was just thinking about buying a watch and your videos gave me options from which to choose. I am looking at automatic or manual below $ 500. I don't have a big wrist and that limits me a bit ..Steinhart, Smiths, Seiko ... Do you think of any? a greeting

    • @RobertBlanchard
      @RobertBlanchard  3 роки тому +1

      Well, the rock it hit broke it... luckily the movement is still keeping great time. So I have ordered a new bezel/case (you have to buy them together and going to re case the watch). As for suggestions... what are you looking for out of your watch? Sport, dress, GMT, Diver? There are some great watches out there. What I suggest is look at Lorier watches (www.lorierwatches.com) they have beautiful classic designs. If you have a small wrist then the new Falcon is a watch that can do it all... sport, dress, daily.

      I was looking for a daily watch, but on the one hand I want something resistant and hard (diver), and on the other hand I like the military aesthetic of the Smiths prs29, clean and simple dial, like your Hamilton and CWC .. If the Lorier will take a look and I like it, like the Baltic aquascape, they are interesting. I'll keep looking, any recommendation is welcome, thank you very much!

    Great film. SRP777 is a beauty, & strikingly similar to 6309 (see Ed Harris' Seiko in 'The Abyss', as well as Capn Willard's 'Apocalypse'); rare to get such a genuinely faithful reissue (I love 70s & 80s style Seiko's, especially, though I'm still in love with the SKX007) also for what was such a good price. Strap looks great, too; as does the tropic. Nice to play with Oyster, Tropic & a thick leather & Nato would also suit. Enjoyed your enthusiasm which only the horologically hooked can really appreciate. From the other side of the pond, I doff my cap.
