Picking the Perfect Starting Class in Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin

- This one choice can either take seconds or hours to decide so I'm here to help you pick the perfect starting class.
First you have to ask yourself, "what kind of playthrough do I want have?"
"Do I want to cast spells?"
"Specialize in STR, or DEX, maybe both?"
"Do I want a lot of items?"
"Or do I want a fresh character and go from there?"
It helps immensely to have an idea of the kind of areas you want to specialize in--and even if you're a new player and have NO idea what you want to focus on--that's ok!
Pick something that looks cool!
There's nothing wrong with picking a character because you like the armor, or the weapons, or because you want a shield or an axe.
For instance, I went with the Knight because it's one of my favorite armor sets--but it has no shield-- the class does have some extra vitality for survivability but the sole factor in my decision was that I wanted my character to have this armor set--that's it!
Starting classes are just templates, you'll have plenty of opportunities to level up your character and try many different things to see what best suits your playstyle
Moral of the story: There's no right or wrong starting class so don't stress it because..!

“What kid of play through do you want to have”
I want to beat the game. At least once
Meanwhile I spent 1500+ hours to get the platinum from deprived class all the way to NG+4 along with an unnecessary NDNB run with a ladle. Idk why but I must hate myself 😭
It's Deprived. It's always deprived.
It is indeed always “knight”
Agreed deprived is the best. But you really don't want to be deprived for your first playthrough or your first souls game. Holy shit the durability for that Dagger does not go far and it'll be a while to get another.
Why deprived? You're just a victim waiting to be taken

@@eric44ismhaving a clear idea of what you wanna become makes the deprived the best one, cuz it has all of the stats at 6 while being only SL1, so the first upgrades cost little to no souls, wich u can spend in other things to help you like brightbugs, armors, or even weapons.
So yeah, it's pretty much the only viable choice if u wanna make a run using specific builds that do not evolve around strenght or dex, if they do, warrior is always the best, knight is a "noob" choice, cuz it's overpowered for the first areas and then becomes useless, but u will allready be overpowered when it becomes useless as it is, so no worries noobies.
Other classes, apart from the bandit, are just for fun and dumb builds, the bandit is just ass, no way to say the opposite, useless fuck.
Hope you understood, and if u are not sure, i am a veteran of DS games, specially DS2 cuz it was my first DS game ever, i learnt by watching videos of ymfah and yazmania, i suggest you watching yazmania cuz that boy is hilarious!
So i know my shit, trust me when we talk about DS2 boy!
The secret is that starting class only matters until you get your early/midgame main weapon
It honestly doesn't matter as much since you get so many extra levels (especially with the Silver Serpent Rong) that you can beef up many stats, but in DS1 and 3 min maxing is pretty important so picking the right starting class in those is more necessary
Deprived is the only option. It is always the only option. Wretch-life-forever!!!
Considering the abundance of souls you get throughout the game, DS2 is the easiest one to max out your character as well as being able to try different playstyles without having to respect.
This really helped, i’ve been saving for this game and i’ve been stressing over this exact topic!
If I choose Cleric, Can i still be a spell caster like a sorcerer, i really like how the cleric looks and the lighting chime
@@beanie112 if you got the game on PS4 I'd be willing to play with you I just bought it as well
I got it on pc
last night
@@beanie112 oh damn
Deprived is the only choice
Cleric with Healstuff always my Go to pick
DS2 is my favorite one of the three and I can actually defend almost all "criticisms" by showing that it is actually works how it was intented or it is more of a personal preference and not a flaw in the game. The only thing I agree is a major flaw of the game is the janky hitboxes. Tiss all
I just bought the game on summer sale, 70ish hour into it, I really love the game. But I can't personally say it's the BEST of the family. However tho, I.... still don't find this janki hit box people complain about. But I really hate the enemy placement and tendency to get ganked all the time, by enemies or bosses. And I hate that....
@@MegaMiquelon From my experience, it just punishes those who try to rush everything.
As for bosses (outside the co-op areas), if you just count "gank" as just having more than one enemy, there are seven full "gank" bosses and two half "gank" bosses (the two halves are Darklurker (as she only splits half way through) and Burnt Ivory King (though you have four people with you as well). Considering how many bosses there are, that is not that many.
Also, lets look at the "full gank" bosses:
- Rats: common weak enemies that are not that aggressive
- Royal Rat Authority: After you defeat the four rats, it's just between you and the dog.
- Twin Dragonriders: The second one just shoots you until the first one is half health (or is knocked down) and has a very laughable healthbar
- Gargoyals: In DS1 as well (they just changed it up)
- Cultist peeps: Not really much threat if you can do damage
- Duke Freji - Torch turns it into one on one battle
- Elene - She is a dark summoner, what would you expect a fight be like
Now, let's look at DS1
-Gargoyals (both games are the same in this regard)
-Capra Demon (same as RRA as once you kill the dogs, tiss a 1v1 fight)
-O&S
- Pinewheel (kind of like Darklurker)
-Nito (even worse as you can't perma death the skellies)
- Four Kings
That would be six bosses (or 5.5 if you want to count Pinewheel as half). Considering that DS2 has at least twice as many bosses as DS1, DS1 has a higher percentage of gank bosses than DS2 (and if you play the Co-Op areas as they were designed to, none of the bosses would be considered gank).
@@Ironica82 since I'm playing SOFTS can we also count the DLC gank boss? Like... that lady who looks like the last boss, then the ganking trio NPC (ugh). Oh btw you also forgot the three tall knights early in the game.
Also I didn't really get ganked by Four Kings since it's a DPS check, but okay it make sense. Hmm well fair enough, it's true DS1 also have some gank bosses, but it just feel better designed. Like the Gargoyles didn't immediately became 2v1, Capra actually have a nice platform for you to kill the dogs first. Pinwheel...is barely a boss. The only boss that truly felt like really ganking to me is O&S and Nito...
@@Ironica82 also, right now I'm fighting Burnt Ivory King... sure, most of the time when the boss came out, he's alone. But right before that, it's gank fest. at best it's 5 vs 10 ish. Seriously, the game's phylosophy of "difficult" is mainly in ganking

Elana is who you are talking about. I did mention her in my list. Though she was the hardest boss in my last play thru (Archery only), I still think she is well designed as she doesn’t spam her summons but spaces them out properly (which was very nice as arrows do not do much damage compared to big swords).
As for the “gank squad”, they are a boss in a co-op area. All four co-op areas are built with summons in mind. You are supposed to summon two other people to do the area. They even gave you two NPC summons if you didn’t have any friends to help you out. Thus, the “gank squad” is actually built to be a 3v3 fight. It is us, the players, who makes it a 3v1 fight.
You are right, I did forget about the Ruin Sentinels. To be fair, however, they are designed quite well. Tiss a 1v1 fight at the start and after you defeat the first one (which you can usually have all but one of their move sets down), the other two join in the fight.
For the gargoyles, they are actually a DPS check as well since it is on a timer of when the other ones shall spawn. If your DPS is high enough, you can actually kill all but the first one before they even get off their podium.
As for Capra vs RRA, right when you enter the Capra fight, you have only a very short time to get your barring before getting ganked. With RRA, as long as you don’t rush in after the fog gate, you can take all the time you need to strategize for the fight.
Pinwheel, from what I have read, is meant to be an early game boss. Can you imagine going through the graveyard, through the catacombs, and then fighting him before ringing any of the bells?
As for the Burnt Ivory King, It might have felt like a 5v10 fight but it really isn’t. they might have one or two on you (depending on how slow you kill them) but they usually only come out after you defeat others.
As a side note, if you plan to do the frigid outskirts, whenever there is no storm, run. When the storm picks up, stop where you are and fight. Too many people complain about this Co-op area because they keep running during the storm and they hit multiple spawn points for the reindeer.
DS2 will always have a special place in my heart cus it was the first souls game I ever tried
Mines was the original Demons Souls but after watching EpicNameBro do Dark Souls 1 videos I threw my hat in the ring with Dark Souls 2 when it came out and it has a special place in my heart too. Now, many years later and after taking a long break, I’m back at it lol thanks for watching 🙂
Wholesome based content 🔥
Thanks!
dark souls 2 go for a faith knight build. it's over powered
Interesting approach, but most weapons and armor that the classes start with can be found or bought not too far into the game, so I chose deprived for my starting class.
Cleric. Mace is the best starting weapon. And a heal spell to smooth out the 1 Estus start. In Vanilla, oftentimes my first Kill is Discount Ornstein. Very easy to do with the Mace.
I don’t care what class I pick since I speed run to the great sword and run around naked so I don’t have shit rolls
I agree with picking based on what looks cool, except I did that with my first fromsoft game Elden Ring and thought bandit would be fun. I spent 2 hours dying repeatedly then dominated on another save file immediately.
I don't remember when i last time spent more than 12 seconds on that screen... Dayum
Deprived is on top
Just began Dark souls 2, picked up sorceror cause of the robe 😂😂.
Bandit has hard drip
There is a correct answer MAGIC
You can cast spells as cleric or you can go str build by using cleric + mace xD
i would say a fresh carácter
For the new players: knight is op AF. Bandit is good for a pure melee build. Sorcerer is good for sorcerer builds....obviously. deprived is honestly the best pick. It's not hard to play even if it's a first playthrough you'll get a dagger in the first fog wall on the left. To be honest it's almost easier playing deprived in this souls game because leveling cost less and wearing armour at the start is not a good idea.
Best one is the explorer.
Keep going man
There is no right choice, but there is a wrong one which is everything except the knight
If i watched this video before maybe i would've finished the game in Weeks instead of 2 YEARS
It’s not nearly as important as it is in ds1 choosing knight and getting that high poise early was op
Meanwhile New players choosing Swordsman
So get this, my first account was a warrior,
2nd was a sorcerer,
3rd actually a cleric, and on my cleric i have 30 intelligence, 28 faith
37 STG, Vitality 15, Health 14, Endurance 15
Attunement 17
Is that a good build for a cleric?
I think it's really solid.
For me it's Deprived or Wanderer
The correct answer is whichever is the drippiest. If you like the way you look you’ll enjoy the game more and you’ll play better
Should I pick Cleric if I want to use the Moonlight greatsword eventually?
No, and by the time you're able to even get it (NG+) you won't even remember your starting class.
Guts build off the rip
Explorer ❤
Real choice: whatever you want, you'll end up leveling adp anyway once you actually know how it works and why this game is so much hated
Deprived master race.
Deprived
That’s a weird way to spell “knight”
The text is too low
who dafuq use explorer??!!! 1
Me
I chose deprived when i first played ds2😂 , i regreted it, But now meh i try deprived... Deprived aint starter class so. Yeah not recommended.
pick none and close the game would be my option
Cool 👍
i bet u died against the Pigs in majula Sy. dw, is not your fault, u can always blame the entire game for that.
Bro bad at ds2 😂
You didn't had to comment I would likely ban elden ring as failure to dark souls series and people that liked it should have electricity turned off
brh how bad do u have to be just walk through some grass
