I just added the anderson connectors to the front and rear of my truck for a winch and i was thinking the same thing Thanks For Sharing you were on top of the search list 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I loved the idea of having a cable with direct access to the battery on the outside of the truck! Just a quick tip, ideally you'd never want to solder an Anderson Connector because a soldered joint will never be as flexible as a crimp, and as this is going in a vehicle there's always the possibility of a joint failure (don't ask me how I know). If you wanna do it the absolute best way possible, get yourself a crimper tool from Anderson, or buy a hammer crimp tool and you'll never have to worry about a connection going bad!
    Good bless and greetings!

I mounted mine in the front bumper. I used the red sb175 so it would be compatible for my winch. I put a receiver hitch on the front and my winch is mounted to a plate that connects to the receiver so that I can move it to the rear of the truck if necessary. I’m also going to install another Anderson connector on the rear for that purpose. It also makes it convenient not to open the hood for a jump. The rear connector can also be used for charging trailer batteries at a higher rate. Instead of solder, I used a hydraulic crimper that I bought for $50 on eBay. Just make sure you use nolox on the connection to prevent corrosion.

I'm sure others have commented that you should ALWAYS use marine grade heat-shrink tubing on ANY automotive electrical connection to prevent water intrusion that will cause corrosion.

I like how you set your truck up to use the jumper cables and be able to use them for you winch. I have a winch on my Jeep but it is wired in. I carry heavy jumpers in the Jeep though - just not for the winch.

I used the log trailer recently and it was so nice to plug and unplug the winch so easily with the new cable set up. That video should be up next week!

It might not be broke, but it's an improvement that helps you and makes it ease of use for quick jumps just helping someone stranded on the side of the road.

I hadn’t seen soldering the connections, interesting. I also like the short cable up from and then choosing whether you need to go out the front or out the back without perma-routing through the body!!!

    • @thee_number_six6227
      @thee_number_six6227 2 роки тому

Yeah, for a trailer set up/dump bed it wouldn't be a bad idea to route it to the rear bumper permanently for shorter cables to his trailer. Yes running more wire ads cost and time but then he wouldn't need such a long cable for his dump trailer and he could leave it connected to charge on the move.

Great video. I solder and crimp. Around the farm there’s always some dead battery, so I put the connectors on all my equipment for a simple and painless jump. Especially the skid steer, cause the battery is under a steel foot plate. And I can plug my backup generator into the tractor to have the electric starter work without having to keep a small motorcycle battery on a trickle charger.

Great video. As most people have stated, pick up a hydraulic crimper. You want a mechanical connection. You can also use a sottering pot and dip the whole end in sodder. This will sill it from any corrosion. Follow up with a good marine grade heat shrink and your good to go.

@@CharlesBaldridge I am tempted to cut the wire just above the terminal to see if the solder sucked up into the wire. I have never had one come apart, but I have also never cut one apart. I get the wire end Really hot before heating the solder to get it to suck up into the wire, but it would be nice to know if it is actually working. You think it should?

@@shaweehillsworkshop4226 I’d be concerned with putting the wires in the direct flame like that. You can burn up the copper strands or initiate oxidization of the copper.
Both of these concerns are so small when you’re just concerned about making a jumper cable or winch cable.
I think your soldering, though crude, is just fine.

hex crimp I have found is better than soldering, you can get cheap hydraulic crimpers that work well or mechanical ones designed for battery cable, I make battery cables for prime movers this way.

Do not heat the Copper wire with the flame. The flame OVERHEATS the wire oxidizing it and making a worse connection. Yes put flux on the copper but only heat the connector while slowly lowering the fluxed wire into the connector. The flux on the wire will heat more than enough from the molten solder in connection and not burn off in the flame. Doing it this way makes the flux coat and CLEAN the wire like it's supposed to and the solder will NATURALLY wick up the copper much much better.😊

couple dumb questions probably but I got to ask them 50 amp 175 amp 350 amp if I put a 350 amp Anderson plug on my jumper cables and I have another device wired up with a 50 amp Anderson plug with a plug into one another? or if I were a 350 amp Anderson plug onto my battery do I have to use a 350 amp Anderson plug on all my connections in order for it to link for accessories? and I might as well ask this other dumb question why I'm at it is there any other plugs out there that will plug into these Anderson plugs? because there quite expensive. or do you recommend any other type of quality plug that I don't have to sell my left arm to buy. cuz there's at least five different things I would like to be able to plug into this connection. thank you for your time

Any vehicle Incase battery dad situation it is helpful . just fit the plug at your front bumper so you have a battery access to revive your battery if even door is locked because of battery failed so later you can do anything .

Why would you do that? You can buy the quick-connect jumper cables without having to do all that work. Amazon has them for 98 bucks. If you really wanted to be slick, you would have come about a foot back from the alligator clips, cut the line there, and put on a quick connect. Then you could use them as a regular set of jumper cables, or if someone else had the quick connection, you could just plug right in. Or if you wanted to run a winch or something like that, you could have a quick connect and a regular set of alligator clips on the other end.
