Skynyrd guitarists were just masters of coming up with great solos
This is another one of my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd songs.
Ohh yesss
Superb lesson, playing, tone, axes. The complete package.
Hope all's well with you.
Love that Strat, perfect tool for that song,👍🏻,,
YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER ,I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO SEE THEM SIX TIMES FROM 73-77 I WAS ALSO VERY LUCKY TO SEE THEM AT DAY ON THE GREEN 77, AND AT FRESNO 8-25TH OR SOMETHING 77 (LARKEN) OR ALLEN COLLINS WAS PLAYING A MICKY MOUSE EARED GIBSON THAT PROJECTED HIS SOUND VERY WELL . IT SEEMS LIKE HE COULD PLAY ANY GUITAR AND HIS TONE WAS UNMISTAKABLE.
Killer, meaty tone you're pulling out of that Strat.
Thank you so much for slowing down for me It helps me play guitar while watching you I enjoyed watching so much and I played my electric guitar along with you 😀😀😀😀
Merci 👍 le son est parfait !
This seems more like it. I can tell when double stops are played further down the fretboard and this is what I hear on the record. Thanks for posting!
Ed said this was the ONLY song he ever ran into an effect for the recording...every other recording was guitar/cord/amp.... There are effects added on some songs as production. Obviously he use the tremelo on Fender amps for songs like I Need You etc. Great stuff bud.
Thank You for this lesson your blue strat is killer looking and love that early seventies marshall you have in the back ground ..its all killer!!!
Damn he's gooooood. Great lesson!
Fantastic job! Thank you! I' m learning this now.
I’m really enjoying learning this, thanks for taking the time to do it. (Your tone is amazing by the way!)
Good job, thanks for posting this video
Love that strat
Awesome Lesson, lov your band!
Man , everything about your videos is great . Thanks so much for doing these! 😎
Are you in austin or Houston? Do you do any one on one lessons ?
That fender sounds wicked man....
Thanks!!! a million!! I was in a rut for something new and bam!!!! this is perfect.
Thanks for watching!
Great lesson! You sound great! Thanks
You have some serious gear! This is a pro vid you can learn from. Appreciate the posting!
nice dude these are my favorite types of lessons
Sick strat, cool song bro.
need more EchoPlex! love it, perfect. another vote for Workin 4 MCA & Comin Home, my fav Skynyrd tunes
Love your work sir from Ky
Ryan great job on the I know a Little LIVE video, loved how you did the ending! Was wondering if you dumped the old EP3 for the two stomp boxes by Echo Plex? Not sure about your end, but my EP3 made my Marshall Head hum, especially if I was using the attenuator at the same time. Plugging the attenuator into a separate electrical run did help.
Fantastic lesson
Excellent, you got it mastered! I like the tricks of the trade too, just seen ZZ Top at Hillsboro, Ore Fairgrounds this summer and was playing air guitar(alcohol was a factor ) along to LaGrange got the whole second row riled up and after the encore Billy Gibbons bow down with his guitar as if t to knight thee(laughter) I'm not worthy thanks for the lesson can't wait to get these bandages off my hands to try the Ed intro (and fills) Gary solo thanks again by the way I got metal slivers not air guitar blisters on my fingers ,Peace, keep on shreddingLate
Great tutorial. Best on UA-cam.
Thanks. No bullshit. I appreciate that.
Awesome! I haven’t seen too many people get the intro fill right..
I got ahead of myself Got to say that's some great tone going on there sounds really great!!
Thanks man!
thanks for these videos, I've been listening and playing skynyrd since I got my first guitar at 13, Rossington was my main influnence on guitar, I would love to see you do one on Working for MCA once again thanks!!
one of my favorite all time bands by far. Loved Rossington. So sorry to see him pass away in 2023.
Thanks man
Since you're on a roll with these Skynyrd lessons that smell or workin for mca would be cool to see
1 year late on my like/comment, but in addition to Sat Night Special, MCA and That Smell are 2 of my favorite songs as well. I'd love to see a tutorial!
That Smell is a monster to learn. I got some of it but that's a number I just stay behind the drums for.
@@TempoDrift1480 I'am not getting anywhere near the solos in that brother. Great song 👍
Yea brother
tasty riffs
Hey brother, I could really use some pointers on I aint the one. Greatly appreciated. Love the content, rock on
Not every song Ed King wrote was magic - this is one of them.
a largely forgotten tune by ed king is One More Time. In the can and fished out for the street survivors album. Ed's solo on that tune is absolutely sick!
I think this is a cool song. Ronnie came up with killer lyrics about something we hear about daily. (Rusty)
This is one of my favorite songs and you seem to do it perfectly. Is there anyway to get the tablature from you. I can't see exactly what you are doing all the time.
Can you please do a lesson for Thing's goin on ....the version on the first and last album? Thank you
Ain't no good life...not the one that I lead.
Nice paul too
Ed said Al Kooper counted it off.
Could you do a video on playn the style of allen collins
Dam i want that strat
Great!! This will really help me. I've been playing parts wrong. Thank you!
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
Can you do a tutorial on “Swamp Music “ ?
Dude that plexi is awesome
Man, Love your Skynyrd vids. Spot on. Sorry, but I gotta ask about your amp tone. What head is that, and what speakers are in your cab...??? Your tone is amazing on both the Strat and Les Paul. What pickups are in that LP? If you don't mind. I'm 55, and still chasing that tone...LOL Thank You
1974 Marshall 50 watt JMP. EL34 power tubes and no master volume. Cabinet is from 1973 and has Celestion 25w Greenbacks. The Les Paul is a 1960 reissue from 1998 and I put in WCR Fillmore pickups plus RS Guitarworks pots and caps. It cleans up very nicely when I roll back the volume which is very important for this music.
Awesome man. Thanks for your tutorial. Love the strat too. What is it?
Custom Shop 62 Reissue. Daphne Blue. I'm not necessarily big into the Relic thing but once I played this one, I knew I wanted it.
@@RyanWilliamsMusic never thought the relics would be something that I would buy, but lately I am getting the itch for one. Thats a beautiful guitar you have
hey man I noticed your pickups are up higher for the high strings and in deeper for the low. does that give you more treble like a tele or something?
thanks for the lesson by the way.
Casey 3-P-O to be honest I haven’t paid too much attention to that. I think I made a quick adjustment a while back to get an overall balance I like.
Wish you stated each song with the tuning. But otherwise awesome lessons i just subscribed!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Subbed cause we have the same name and you played it slow enough to see thanks Ryan! btw what pick ups and year is that strat? you have it in middle position or did you switch it per part? I couldnt see your switch?
Pretty sure I'm just on the bridge pickup. That's a '62 Reissue Custom Shop Strat. I swapped out the bridge pickup with a Dimarzio Virtual Solo. It smooths out the high end when I'm using more gain plus it's quieter than the stock pickup.
Any chance of teaching Curtis Loew solo without using a slide ?
Great tutorial. What is your guitar year, is it traditional? And what marshall amp is that?
John Hodge 97 or 98 Les Paul Classic with WCR Fillmore Pickups. The amp is a 1974 50 Watt Marshall JMP. All stock. Cabinet is around the same year with 25 Watt Celestion Greenbacks.
wow great tone! do you know what the settings are on the plexi? I CANNOT get my amp to sound that good
Guitar is plugged into channel 1 (bright channel) and the volume is set between 6 - 7. Presence, Bass, Mid are all cranked. Treble around 4 - 5.
@@RyanWilliamsMusic Thanks Man, appreciate it. I have a cover coming up soon!
First Happy Holidays! What Marshall model are you using and what are the settings you use to get Gary Rossington's awesome tone?
That’s a 1974 50 Watt JMP non master volume. It’s turned up to around 6 or 7. Tone knobs turned to 10 except treble which is on 4.
@@RyanWilliamsMusic What amp or processor would you recommend to get that tone at bedroom level volume? That setup you're using wouldn't make it to the second chord because the next thing I'd hear would be either a shotgun or glass breaking as it's flying out the window. 😥
jdj62464 I’m using a Fryette Power Station with mine to tame the volume. Helps to keep me friendly with my neighbors. The hand wired Marshall 1974x is an excellent sounding amp (I have one) that gets you in the ballpark at just 18 watts. Still kinda loud since it doesn’t have a master volume but certainly not as loud as my 50 watt through a 4x12. Not really sure what the best amp is for wife/ neighbor-friendly volume.
Hi. My name is Aaron Durr Burger
I have a mint condition evh 5150 3 EL34 50 watt head and evh 2x12 cab would trade to a charvel or evh stripe series, white black guitar
This is a tricky tune to nail.
Are you in Austin or Houston ? I see the Salt Lick bbq shirt and I actually live a few miles from that place. I would love to get some lessons from
You. Please please let me
Know and thanks
From Atlanta, GA and live in Southern CA now. Love Austin and you can't get good bbq out here.
@@RyanWilliamsMusic oh man, sure wish you were closer, your Skynyrd playing is rock solid!! Any chance you can do a lesson on Gimme Back My Bullets? Allen's rhythm playing is so perfect in this tune but I just can't seem to get the jist of it. Maybe because he is playing 5ths and not 4ths...
Slight correction, Al Kooper counts it off not Ed, you have that confused with Sweet Home which Ed counts off. But otherwise splended video
Could it be Artimus counting?
Nope it’s Al Kooper, the producer. Ed says so on his forum
I think t's just Ed, Leon and Artimus playing on the basic track. The other guys overdubbed later.
Yes. The others drove up a few days later and put on their parts and Al Kooper counted off the track
Here it is: edking.proboards.com/post/350/thread
You didnt do the harmonics during the chorus.

Damn see an amp tech, buy a new patch cord, get some shielding in the guitar or something. I won't let something that hums that badly leave my shop. I don't care if you live right underneath those 150,000 volt power lines. I can fix that so it won't hum.
