  • In this video I talk about the 4K of the Canon 90D showing samples in 1080, 4k (uncropped ) and 4K (cropped mode). For this test I used the EF-S 24mm and the EF-S 10-18mm.

    I film with a 90d.
    I do remote controle truck videos hahahaha.
    Love the 90d.
    Your video here was very handy.
    I noticed the 4k cropped setting.
    I'm going to try it.
    Great video.
    Subbed.

    1. 4K Crop - best quality
    2. 4K - medium quality
    3. FHD - low quality

    Jusy for sharing, I shoot in 4K because this camera (M6M2) capable for that. Some time I zoom the video (Cropped) to show more specific thing in my video.
    I brough 4K camera to use it potential to my needs. That why I shoot in 4K.

    Thanks for the comparisons. This is a huge subject depending on what you do. I take video of ships which needs a long telphoto lens. My 8000d (rebel 760) only does 1080 and I when I want to zoom in in editing its is not so good. I wanted a 90D but bought a Nikon P1000 which does 4k and because of the small sensor can get the 3000mm equivalent. To get that kind of equivalent crop on an APS-C sensor, it would have to be about a 200mp sensor I think. But then there is the compromise of fstops. So I am still thinking about the a 90D to go with my Sigma 150-600. At 1080p and equiv 600m on both cameras, the APS-c canon 8000D is the clear winner, but when using 4K in the same setting the Nikon is equivalent even with the small sensor. But the canon cannot compete against 4K and optical zoom of the Nikon P1000. Also I think the auto focus on the 90D would be a great advantage too. This is why I say there is a lot to consider, or more correctly undecided about my choices.

    I couldn't see any difference between 4K and 1080p with the medium close up shots of your face, but in the wide shots of the buildings, the bricks looked 5% sharper in 4K than the bricks in 1080p. The difference was marginal.

    I use 4k standard mode regularly as a static cam, wide shot, while using 250d as an action cam in 1080p, so when I make a 1080p final video I can zoom into my 4k footage, pan and zoom and make it not so static. :)
    Sometimes I switch them, use 4k cropped on 250d and 1080p 120 if I need slo-mos.

    You should do a 4k cropped comparison with the eos r 4k. I always shoot in 4k on my 90D but very rarely with the cropped mode. It does look better cropped.

      I do watch UA-cam and edit on a 4k screen so maybe that is why I see such a big difference

      I’m really confused, please enlighten me. Doesn’t “cropped” mean that my video will have the black line at the top and bottom (“letter box”)? I’m just getting into video, I’m very new and green at this.

    Very good video! Have you found any mayor difference in photography among the 9d and M50?

    The 1080p is much softer and lacks detail. Also the dynamic range which 90D is not great at, is better in 4K.

    It always depends on what you shoot brother. For example, I shoot wildlife soooo 4k makes a ton of difference for me :)

    • @DanFrullani
      @DanFrullani  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, of course, as I said in the video....if you shoot in 4K you can crop the image without losing quality or at least getting much better results than if you crop some 1080 footage. So, for wildlife it does make a difference! Thanks for watching!

    Hey man I'm looking at the 90d or eos r for hybrid shooting mainly photography, but also some car feature videos, which one would you recommend I go for?

    • @DanFrullani
      @DanFrullani  2 роки тому +1

      Well, I love the EOS R for everything....for both photos and videos, however, if you want to shoot fast moving subjects (such as cars) the 90D can focus better in these situations. It also depends on your personal taste...but keep in mind what I told you about fast moving subjects. Sorry for not answering any earlier! Have a great day.

    Hi Dan, i shoot my vids in 1080p on my 90d and to tell you the truth there's not much difference in the quality; Maybe to a pixel peeper, 4k is fine but id rather use 1080p, for one it renders much faster and it is far less intensive work for my pc as a whole even with the mp4 compression there there must be some loss anyway...I love 1080p unless i have EOS R just like yours Dan...LOL..Great vlog again my friend and it was a very interesting test and i really enjoyed and watched twice to see if i could see any difference.... Take Care to and your family Dan...

      When I shoot and edit everything in 4K the rendering time is way too much compared to when I shoot and edit in 1080...and I don't see a great difference in quality...at least not enough difference to justify the extra hours of rendering. Thanks for your comment and have a great day!

    If you pan zoom around yor video 4k is must,am always shot 4k when making film but for weding 1080 60fps is enough for me.

    • @DanFrullani

      I totally agree....for weddings 1080 is good and, as I mentioned, none of my clients has ever asked me to shoot in 4K, even if they know that I could.

    How do I shoot in 4K without cropping? I set my camera to 4K and noticed I'm so zoomed in I can't get as much of the background I used to in a couple of my sets. I use a 35mm lens.

    • @DanFrullani
      @DanFrullani  2 роки тому

      That's strange...If you're using a Canon 90D, by default, you won't get any additional crop in 4K unless you enable the "Cropped 4K" to get more quality.

    I own the 90D. But since both my TV and my screens are all 1080 ... 4K doesn't really matter (at this time) Besides that, I do 99% photography, and only 1% video so ...

      In my opinion there isn't very much difference between the 1080 and the uncropped 4K. The cropped 4K looks definitely better.
