      This always happens in just about every state in the country. I just saw a reality based crime show on t.v. A man killed a woman in Idaho. Conservative red Idaho! He was sentenced to death. After 25 years in prison, Supreme Court ruled he was too dumb ( low I.Q) to remain in prison so he was released.

They rob them, set them up, black mail them etc. It's fair game to say the least, Typical cat and mouse game. So it would make sense if he actually thought they were rivals coming to rob him. It has happened countless times here in LA especially with those no knock warrants and guns ah blazing. For the record I dont condone the Activity, but unannounced forced entry is another thing, especially being done in high crime rate areas.

    If the police did wrong, best believe they will find any way possible to say they did everything by the book. They will find someone to inform on them whether its true or not. And most importantly, they will fabricate their story to supposedly show they were totally in the right during the raid. I mean lets be honest, how many times have we seen police do wrong and cover up their mistakes. Perhaps the raid was wrongly executed (might be the wrong word to use). Hence, the man was protecting his home and whatever he had anything. Regular looking cars with regular looking people in plain clothes not announcing they're police🤷🏽‍♂️My condolences to the officer doing his job but just maybe Gonzalez didn't want to get robbed. Regardless if he was doing wrong, he has a right to defend his home.

That said, I'm guessing that the defense can't use the 2A "castle doctrine" because the killer is either ineligible because he is a felon or some other reason.

      You do understand that there was several police present during the raid when it happened and the first man through the door saw him with the shutgun in his hands and saw him shoot the second man through the door on entry. So the jailhouse informant isn't needed at any instance to prove he committed the act.
