"Immediately Zeta gundam sets itself apart form its predecessor" >Shows Bright getting hit instead of doing the hitting like he was all of classic MSG Perfect showcase.
8:52 To be fair, the Rosamia plot DID show how much Kamille had grown, to start with he never really 'loves' her, just wishes he could heal her, and there's a certain point where he *Does* cut his losses.
I really felt how the story slowed down halfway, especially the Reccoa romance subplot made me so mad I almost dropped the anime because of it. Despite that I finished the series satisfied because during its last eps they finally end their character arcs that were prolonged for far too long after escaping many battles unscathed and Kamille's development reached his peak. I might like him even more than Amuro after all Zeta. Anyways that was a great video! Keep up the good work and good luck with ZZ if you decide watching it next haha
@@nopeyepp I'd advise to prepare for tonal whiplash. ZZ starts off completely opposite of Zeta..... Might be better to watch one of the UC OVAs and take a break for a bit. EDIT: I'll add that ZZ Gundam starts getting serious around the mid-point... But the first half, especially the Shangri-La & Moon moon archs are goofy somewhat...
The last 1/3 in my opinion drags on because the war itself is dragging on and we feel the exhaustion the AEUG is feeling. Also the romance is related to newtype bonds Patimus in particular is useing his newtype abilities to mess with Womens mind to seduce and use them for his own gain. This whole series exists to brake Char and turn him into the Nillist villian of the Finale movie Char's Counterattack. Patimus is a newtype but he's everything his father said they wouldn't be and in the end he and the federation destroy's his protégé Kamile and along with him his hope for the future. If newtypes are just as bad as old types whats even the point of the future. This only gets reinforced by Neo Zeon's actions in ZZ which is a war he doesnt participate in but does see their actions. By the time you get to CCA Char is just a hollow shell of a man going through the motions of whats expected of him while also trying to get revenge on Amuro for the death of Lalah as thats all he has left and the finale of Zeta is what begins this downward turn for him.
Ive been rewatching Zeta slowly lately and I find myself agreeing with you. The first two thirds were really good, but the last third kinda dragged on, god I forgot how much I disliked Katz and his love interest.
7:32 No military vehicle IRLs have locks. It's seen as better to risk the theft than to risk a delay in a scramble launch. Now, if we're talking floating in a tin can in the airless void of space, maybe they WOULD consider the downsides of someone getting a mobile suit and blowing the place up from the inside out. But they don't.
This video may be unlisted, but I just wanted to say it feels good to see a video that doesn't just give Zeta all the praises in spite of its shortcomings. What it does, it does well, as a sequel, it is great to see how past characters and events progress in the UC timeline. When it's bad, it's bad, like Katz, the whole Reccoa plot, it leaves a sour taste that stops me from raving about Zeta as much as others do. I would say at least in OG Gundam there were traces of some Zeon soldiers acting humane and not like the militaristic drum that they were a part of, here the Titans are basically all but unforgivable save for Emma who defects. It's much more black and white in those terms. Now that you mention the repeated story arcs, it probably adds to why I also don't love Zeta as much too. It's weird seeing Jerid praise when everyone just dogpiles on him. Anyways, not like anyone else will see this, but good stuff.
Thanks for your kind words. I'd like to clarify, I didn't unlist the video because I think it's bad but mainly because most of my subscribers on this account want gaming content. I didn't want to alienate either side so I decided to make all my Gundam videos accessible on the other channel instead.
@@nopeyepp No problem, I understand that point of view. I will be watching the rest of your reviews with great interest, as someone who doesn't get too highbrow on these admittedly silly shows at times (UC really isn't as serious as some make it out to be).
To be fair, a little bit of context is needed for WHY the Titans exist. Stardust Memory focuses on the event that lead to the creation of the Titans. The first large scale Zeon remnant group stole a nuke armed Gundam, used it on the majority of the Federation fleet, and then started another colony drop. The kicker, however, is the the founders of the Titans intentionally fucked over the attempts to stop this as a means to seize power.
The criticism is right on the point. I've noticed this pattern of Yoshiyuki Tomino's shows feeling dragged out then rushed at the end with certain plot elements repeated. I wonder what you will think of ZZ next. I found it enjoyable and nowhere near as bad as people say it is when I watched it for a second time with refreshed eyes a few months ago. It would probably be best if you took a break before binge watching the series as the adverse reactions of the time was due to the whiplash of the tone of Double Zeta only a few weeks after Zeta aired. There's also some bad miss-translations that will confuse you about Rasara Moon's plot between episode 39-41.
I disliked the end of Zeta, and ZZ, but I think Zeta is a great show. The music is great, the art is pure classic, the story is pretty good, and the characters have immense depth. Plus, the Gundam designs are just tops; I love the Rick Dias, the Dijeh, and the Marasai. And, it has my favorite MS in the entire series, the Asshimar!
The constant Grand Theft Gundam in the first part of the series made me unreasonably annoyed when I was watching it. You'd think after the second or maybe third time they'd consider putting a lock on the thing. And yeah, somehow nobody ever seemed to get punished for it. The OVAs are worth watching even if you don't do videos on them. 0083 is a good watch because it retroactively provides setup for Zeta, showing how the Federation changed between the end of Gundam to the start of Zeta. 08th MS Team is an excellent watch as well IMO.
His mother absolutely loved him, she just had a moment of weakness seeing him kill someone in front of her. Most women aren't wired for that. His dad was autistic an bad at showing it but he did seem to care in his own way.
EHhhh iw wouldn't QUITE say the Titans are far worse, but maybe that's only ebcause they don't get the chance to go as far. Zeon gassed or blew up a *lot* of the Spacenoids they claimed to be liberating. At least the Titans don't pretend to be their friends. Though when the Titans did a colony drop it was aimed at a civilian center rather than falling on one by accident after falling apart.
The Titans founders literally fucked over every attempt to stop Operation Stardust, which involved the entire Federation fleet being nuked and another colony drop. They gassed a colony not to weaponize it, but because of a picket line. Then there's Cyber Newtype research. Oh yeah, and firing on explicitly civilian targets during the battle of Dakar. Then they kept gassing more colonies because they found out Minerva was alive and considered an entire colony acceptable collateral damage to get one child. Zeon may have been evil, but they at least had STANDARDS for their evil dickery. Well... until we bring up side media like that time Kcylia had black ops units working on a bio weapon the purge the entire biosphere...
Zeta has a much more complex story than the original Gundam. In a way, its a semi-realistic look at the reorganization of nations and political parties after a war. There really are no good guys or bad guys in any Gundam story. Its pretty obvious that there are good and bad people on every side. Zeta shows how once respected heroes and leaders become ostracized and villianized when the fighting stops, or at least stops for a while. At the same time, ambitious people with the opportunity to take advantage of political unrest to advance their own plans and grab power for themselves will always exist. My only real gripe with Zeta was the very forced romance subplots because the writers just did not know how to write them. Some are better than others, but overall the story could have used less overall characters and les focus on doomed romances.
I respectfully disagree with a lot of your criticism. Although Zeta isn't perfectly paced, it's still much better paced than the majority of Gundam series. As for the romance thing, many of them are children during war time and it doesn't help that a lot of them are vulnerable due to their New Type abilities. That is something that Schirocco exploited with Reccoa and Sarah inadvertently did with Katz. Many also criticize Rosami but forget that she's a Cyber New Type and the point of her arc is to further add to the experiments that the earth feds are conducting on humans. I also disagree with the story being weeker than the OG series.
I was bored 70% of the time watching zeta. Its action sequences were awful imo. They launch, shoot and miss every shot while their enemies also miss everything on them. They retreat and do it again next ep. Gundam 0079 the original had better fights compared to this. I also didn't like half of the characters and that includes kamille. The zeta didn't have a single memorable fight at all.
Zeta is easily my favorite Gundam show. Its story is not perfect, but I still absolutely love it.
One of the best Gundam series of all time.

Great video dude, good thought process and delivery. You even have some points most people miss or don't mention in other videos.

Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam is one of the most iconic series of the franchise.
You should definitely cover the OVAs. They're short, but impactful.
