Perfect timing. This has now turned into the perfect retro handheld for me. I know I said that when I bought the other 4, but this time I *really* mean it.
Imo OTA updates are needed even before the bug fixes. Imagine getting bug fixes, but for each bug fix you have to wipe your card. I'll wait for OTA updates before I start recommending MuOS to everyone. I really love what we have at the moment tho.
It's pretty easy to do even without OTA and updates are so infrequent I don't think it matters. Just copy your files from the main partition to a folder on your pc, flash, then slap your files back in and don't replace any files already inside and bam you're updated with all your saves and everything still there. You'll have to redo your game configs. For example I removed the GBA logo overlay so I had to do that again. But besides that everything has been perfect. It can be complicated for someone who has never messed with emulators but if you've even done a tiny bit you should be able to no problem.
@@mrp1zz492 it's not a matter of easy vs hard but just that it's annoying to do. I'm more concerned that they would release a version with this HDMI bug. Seems like a simple thing to catch in the most barebones of a QA process.

Most of the autosave/load state, and it putting you right back into the game when you startup was already there - it had "Last Game" as an option for where to go when you start up. And have autosave/load turned on in RA settings. The only issue was that you had to exit the game and pick shutdown from the menu. So, the one (wonderful) new thing is that you can set it to convert from sleep to to fully shut down after a certain amount of time (or instantly fully shut down), so now you don't even have to leave the game - briefly press the power button and all is well.
The only thing holding me back from buying it is the slightly above what I can afford now price and the questionable chinese work ethics, even if I've probably bought stuff from them without even knowing. Also, I like your videos.
I totally agree with you. My solutions are to favorite my top games and categorize my ROMs by folders. You can do this however you want, but I sort ROMs in alphabetical folders and have a separate folder for ROM hacks. 😊
Great video buddy and MuOS is definitely good and I'll put it second after the last stock firmware update, on the H it saves states even when battery is drained and its about to shut down. Once its switched on, Yes its slower but still puts you wheree you were. The only thing I dont like is that they've put the GBA SP overlay on the H too but thats a minor 😊 The community around our handhelds is gorgeous, keep us updated brother ❤

I am holding off on the sp to see the miyoo version but I installed it on my rg355xh and man I am very satisfied. The rg35xxh replaced my 405m as a pocket carry . Great video and MUos is awesome .
Thanks for sharing, I just added MuOS to my SP yesterday and it seems to work pretty well. I have yet to tinker with the settings to make this function better. I agree we need OTA updates. The constant need to backup data using their apps prior to reflashing the card with the update is a lot of steps to take
It's great that they're putting so much effort into its development, but I'll wait for the major bugs to be fixed. The HDMI issue is a showstopper for me. Also, no search function? Really? The developers deserve praise, but calling MuOS "perfect" is a big stretch.
Awesome, this is what I was waiting for! I will still wait for them to fix that audio issue though, because I dont want to have to nuke / reflash my SD card more than once. You are 100% right about OTA updates!
The game switcher is the prime time feature I'm waiting for ... Having three or four games suspended in the background being able to pick between them at any time, that's the key feature for me. I think we're maybe a couple of months away from having that on Anbernic devices.

Well, I really like this CFW, but I still using it just for Ports, and that's all. For ME, Knulli still better for my kind of use, just because of Bluetooth support. And when I said bluetooth support, includes audio bluetooth, and for me this is amazing. Sadly MuOs still not having this support (maybe in Bananas?). The only thing that would further knock this outta the park for me would be Bluetooth controller support. it barely works on stock os and requires several redundant steps to remap and get the controls right, only to have the game not respond to the controller anyway. I can’t wait to play this on the tv but I’ve had two long and fruitless nights of attempting this, and having to get out of bed to use the on device controls to get back in control.

I just need Bluetooth audio and it would be perfect. OTA updates would be nice, but it would be nice to have Bluetooth audio so I can still hear my game at night in bed while my spouse is asleep
Yeah, you're right. Ill check out this version. There was a few things I disliked about the last version that kept me from pushing it. Stuff like no on screen volume inducator when in game. Or ports being hit or miss. Alot of them would crash. I just want something with minimal bugs you know. Part of me really just wants Arkos but i know that's not coming
Fair, but Stock OS boots up slower than me in the morning before my morning coffee. I like stock, but this fake hibernate thing only feels awesome if it boots up rather quickly. :)
I don't really like the latest update because the dreamcast has gotten much worse and the installation is very inconvenient because they haven't loaded the update file but only the entire image file of the software, so you have to flash it all over again, very inconvenient!! Muos is excellent software, I love it, I hope the developers can solve this problems and continue to improve it!!
EDIT: I've resolved my issues by reflashing the OS. If you're encountering a ton of weird issues, it may not be that the OS is poorly designed, but that YOUR install of the OS is responding weird due to a poor flash attempt. Reflash the OS and try again. I had several issues listed in my reply below. Original comment for context: ------------ I take back my compliments for this OS. It sucks. Randomly muted my audio permanently. No, I did not use an HDMI cord, I don't even have one for a mini port. I'm not going through all of these settings fucking TWICE. Their idea of updating requiring reflashing is absurd, too. That shit needs to stop. Wiping all of your settings every time you need a major update is the equivalent of shooting your children every time you want a new one. Pointless, excessive and causes more problems than it solves.
Whoah, this comment went from 0 to 100 fairly quickly. I'm sorry for the nerves you went through. Personally I didn't have the audio bug happen to me outside of the HDMI-OUT thing I mentioned. I'd jump on their discord and explain the bug. It'll help them fix it faster. :)

I lose my temper with tech when it doesn't work the way it's supposed to for no conceivable reason, but the reason I was having issues was likely related to a poor flash and I've since seemed to resolve it and everything's working as intended. Sometimes, for whatever reason, it just doesn't flash to the microSD card right. After about the third time, it started working properly. And I'm way ahead of you on the Discord stuff, I've since gone over there and while I do find all of the settings to be kind of nauseating trying to go through and save permanently, the people on the Discord have been extremely helpful and alleviated my irritations. For context: the main reason I was irritated was that because of my issues I had to reflash, and reflashing meant wiping my settings because there just isn't clear info for people on how to back up configurations. For anyone who would like to know how to do that now, though, open up 'Applications' and select 'Task Toolkit' and run the Backup options. When you reflash, assuming you have a second microSD card like I do, you can then use those backups with the Archive Manager to reinstall your settings and save you some hassle. But yeah... digging through the settings, *particularly* for RetroArch, is a bit of a nightmare (RetroArch requires you to save your settings before leaving and it has like two or more ways to do that and only one is the right way; i.e. - if you have overrides on, you HAVE to save via the overrides menu). THAT is on RetroArch more than MuOS, and most of my issues setting up the settings for MuOS were caused by a bad flash. I use BalenaEtcher which has mostly been good up until this point, but it may be a good idea to rely on Rufus or something else instead. idk why it just flashes poorly sometimes. I've used Rufus before in the past but for whatever reason didn't stick with it, possibly another bad flash, but it's just something you have to deal with. MuOS is working fine for me now. I hope it doesn't cause issues when I update, but if so I have a plan of action for how to deal with it and that should alleviate some frustrations. But yeah, if things are acting just *slightly* weird for you, assume it's a bad flash and do it again. I had several issues, including the audio bug triggering for me, some weird issues with how auto save/load and the resume function were working (it would always start in the game even when I quit at the main menu and it would always load the first save state instead of the latest) and it was making me question MuOS's quality, but I do not feel it's on the developers in this case, it's just a bit of bad luck from a bad flash attempt.
It's kind of hard to compare. Most systems play exactly as you'd want them to. The only way to really push them is with shaders and I don't think you're going to get a huge difference there. The shaders either don't drag down your system and are lightweight... or they're too much for it and chug performance. You would have to compare Dreamcast/PSP performance, as those are the systems that are stretching the limits of the hardware, but you likely already have to do frameskipping for most games in that category anyway. MuOS allows you to use standalone emulators, which play DS games well enough and from what little I've tested with PSP seems to be alright, but I haven't plugged in an analog controller to test out PSP games thoroughly, I only really jumped into Daxter to mess with some settings for the emulator (setting up RetroAchievements). I did play a *bit* with Dreamcast on MuOS and I can say that I was surprised it was playing so smoothly when I tested out Resident Evil 3. The intro chugged performance, but then (to my astonishment) the game's performance was (as best as I could tell) _perfect_ the moment gameplay started. Fires everywhere, zombies chasing me, etc. Just seemed fine. I was worried it would perform poorly and I'd have to use the PS1 version of the game instead.
As someone. who is currently using stock OS and had sleep (except for full shutdown after a set amount of sleep time option) and auto save/load states when closing game/shutting down device from the start I still wonder what are the reasons for me to switch to MuOS (except for more themes, waiting to connect to wifi for retroachievements and, maybe, a little bit better charge hold in sleep mode)? What am I missing that everyone calls it the ultimate CFW when stock OS does all this on relatively same level and sometimes has less bugs? Resume game functionality like this was in GarlikOS and AdamImage OS for a long time too so it is not as unique and specific to this OS.. I will switch to it over time ofc but still I wonder what is it that makes it so much more preferable than stock.
I hit another issue, as well. My date and time reverted to 6am, December 1969 and would not change no matter how many time I fixed it in the settings. I also had to reflash the card to fix the date/time.
I am using Garlic OS on my RG355XX (non plus) which i really like but i don't think it will be available for the RG355XX-H which i have ordered and expect to be delivered in the next couple of days. Thanks to your videos i think i will give muOS a try when my RG355XX arrives.
Technically, the GarlicOS dude is working on 2.0, but i wouldn't wait. It's been a long wait already. Best we enjoy what we already have in terms of CFW solutions. :)
Stock OS also has the "save state and turn off + turn on and load state on last played game" option. It is called "quick shutdown", it's buried in the menus 😂 I'm just using modded stock os on my rg35xx h.
Hello, I have a couple of questions, can you play nds? With this OS, platforms such as n64, dreamcast, psp are optimized? With this OS, are the same filters applied as well as the Gba logo in the games? Do they serve functions like WiFi and Bluetooth? Thanks, I'm using the translator so my English won't be perfect

IMO there’s too many issues with this firmware. You can’t easily remap buttons for N64 or Dreamcast, it drains the battery super fast, and there are still too many bugs
I'm rocking it on my grey RG MotherFlipper. Thanks lad!! I'll keep my silver MotherFlipper stock but I'm having fun with muOS refried beans. Don't forget to save your config in retroarch after you make your changes to Auto save, auto load options folks. One thing, I'd like to see FBneo added as an active system. I can run individual games directly in retroarch but not as a class of system via muOS.

Me, reflashing it for the third time trying to figure out why my ROMS folder is not even populated with empty system folders and not even detecting my exfat SD2 card: 👌😅 Look like it's early Garlic OS all over again and I am going to destroy a bunch of SD cards lol
Weird, it should populate a rom folder tree in the second SD card the second you put it in. I never encountered this bug. To be fair, I always start from scratch with cards. Each CFW handles secondary cards slightly different, which is a pita. Starting fresh prevents this. 😄
@@VladNerd Story of my life 😅 It's functioning normal on my 28xx and I even can play game through retroarch content. I just tried a single sd card setup and there is the same thing - Roms folder is empty with no folders inside. I guess it's something to do with the build for 28xx. Gonna wait for the next version
Can you please do a DETAILED video of how to add console art and box art manually without having to use the scraper. I have all of my art downloaded on pc. So i really dont want to have to wait on the scraper method.
Maybe I missed it but how long does it takes to boot up the device from a complete shutdown? Stock OS takes like forever, but if muOS is significantly faster then that would be really enticing.
Ok, so i need some help please. I have tried multiple times to reflash my card with muos refried beans. It goes to the muos screen for about 3 seconds then total black. I have also tried all suggested download links and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Just got my SP and am having serious trouble downloading muOS - its so slow and just stops and I have to start again. I have fast internet but it's just not happening.

Is there a way to change the N64 emulator to retroarch? The standalone N64 emulator in MuOS doesn't let you change the resolution from 320 to 640. The hotkeys and functionality are much worse than retroarch. The only positive is there are no weird shadow issues. Does DC and PSP use their standalone emulators? Just concerned for devices that don't use retroarch want work with auto resume due to not being in retroarch
Ugly design, search function not working, HDMI not working, problems with remapping controls of certain systems, no ota updates, problems with Dreamcast... I just sick with the original firmware.

Tried both knulli and muOs latest versions on rg35xx h, and Knulli is better in my opinion (hdmi, bluetooth - audio and controllers, interface).
That's the beauty of CFWs. We now have something for everyone. Knulli is also nice, I'm just waiting for the next release until I try it out again. :)

I just wish the menu button brought up the RetroArch menu instead of menu+x other than that it's perfect.
A word of caution for those trying to restore Retroarch Config. Retroarch was also updated, so restoring old configs will break retroarch keybinds.
If you have it turn off when you close the lid, does it "close" retroarch and save your data to the sd card?

That diamond feature is called quick shutdown on the stock OS. Anbernic already has this out of the box.
I know, but it's useless when you couple it with a slow boot. muOS by comparison, boots way, way faster.

MuOS is great. Something I love is that you can use Select + Start on the H model to exit the currently running game. That just really intuitive.

I don't really like the latest update because the dreamcast has gotten much worse and the installation is very inconvenient because they haven't loaded the update file but only the entire image file of the software, so you have to flash it all over again, very inconvenient!! Muos is excellent software, I love it, I hope the developers can solve this problems and continue to improve it!!

EDIT: I've resolved my issues by reflashing the OS. If you're encountering a ton of weird issues, it may not be that the OS is poorly designed, but that YOUR install of the OS is responding weird due to a poor flash attempt. Reflash the OS and try again.

Randomly muted my audio permanently. No, I did not use an HDMI cord, I don't even have one for a mini port. I'm not going through all of these settings fucking TWICE. Their idea of updating requiring reflashing is absurd, too. That shit needs to stop. Wiping all of your settings every time you need a major update is the equivalent of shooting your children every time you want a new one. Pointless, excessive and causes more problems than it solves.

I'm sorry for the nerves you went through. Personally I didn't have the audio bug happen to me outside of the HDMI-OUT thing I mentioned. I'd jump on their discord and explain the bug. It'll help them fix it faster. :)

@@VladNerd It's fine. I lose my temper with tech when it doesn't work the way it's supposed to for no conceivable reason, but the reason I was having issues was likely related to a poor flash and I've since seemed to resolve it and everything's working as intended.
Sometimes, for whatever reason, it just doesn't flash to the microSD card right.
After about the third time, it started working properly. And I'm way ahead of you on the Discord stuff, I've since gone over there and while I do find all of the settings to be kind of nauseating trying to go through and save permanently, the people on the Discord have been extremely helpful and alleviated my irritations.
For context: the main reason I was irritated was that because of my issues I had to reflash, and reflashing meant wiping my settings because there just isn't clear info for people on how to back up configurations. For anyone who would like to know how to do that now, though, open up 'Applications' and select 'Task Toolkit' and run the Backup options. When you reflash, assuming you have a second microSD card like I do, you can then use those backups with the Archive Manager to reinstall your settings and save you some hassle.
But yeah... digging through the settings, *particularly* for RetroArch, is a bit of a nightmare (RetroArch requires you to save your settings before leaving and it has like two or more ways to do that and only one is the right way; i.e. - if you have overrides on, you HAVE to save via the overrides menu). THAT is on RetroArch more than MuOS, and most of my issues setting up the settings for MuOS were caused by a bad flash. I use BalenaEtcher which has mostly been good up until this point, but it may be a good idea to rely on Rufus or something else instead. idk why it just flashes poorly sometimes. I've used Rufus before in the past but for whatever reason didn't stick with it, possibly another bad flash, but it's just something you have to deal with.
MuOS is working fine for me now. I hope it doesn't cause issues when I update, but if so I have a plan of action for how to deal with it and that should alleviate some frustrations.
But yeah, if things are acting just *slightly* weird for you, assume it's a bad flash and do it again. I had several issues, including the audio bug triggering for me, some weird issues with how auto save/load and the resume function were working (it would always start in the game even when I quit at the main menu and it would always load the first save state instead of the latest) and it was making me question MuOS's quality, but I do not feel it's on the developers in this case, it's just a bit of bad luck from a bad flash attempt.
how does performance in game compare to the stock os experience? do games run better on Stock or Muos?

It's kind of hard to compare. Most systems play exactly as you'd want them to. The only way to really push them is with shaders and I don't think you're going to get a huge difference there. The shaders either don't drag down your system and are lightweight... or they're too much for it and chug performance.
You would have to compare Dreamcast/PSP performance, as those are the systems that are stretching the limits of the hardware, but you likely already have to do frameskipping for most games in that category anyway.
MuOS allows you to use standalone emulators, which play DS games well enough and from what little I've tested with PSP seems to be alright, but I haven't plugged in an analog controller to test out PSP games thoroughly, I only really jumped into Daxter to mess with some settings for the emulator (setting up RetroAchievements).
I did play a *bit* with Dreamcast on MuOS and I can say that I was surprised it was playing so smoothly when I tested out Resident Evil 3. The intro chugged performance, but then (to my astonishment) the game's performance was (as best as I could tell) _perfect_ the moment gameplay started. Fires everywhere, zombies chasing me, etc. Just seemed fine. I was worried it would perform poorly and I'd have to use the PS1 version of the game instead.
As someone. who is currently using stock OS and had sleep (except for full shutdown after a set amount of sleep time option) and auto save/load states when closing game/shutting down device from the start I still wonder what are the reasons for me to switch to MuOS (except for more themes, waiting to connect to wifi for retroachievements and, maybe, a little bit better charge hold in sleep mode)? What am I missing that everyone calls it the ultimate CFW when stock OS does all this on relatively same level and sometimes has less bugs? Resume game functionality like this was in GarlikOS and AdamImage OS for a long time too so it is not as unique and specific to this OS.. I will switch to it over time ofc but still I wonder what is it that makes it so much more preferable than stock.
Does MuOS have a game switcher option similar to Onion OS? That's another feature that I really like about Onion.
I hit another issue, as well. My date and time reverted to 6am, December 1969 and would not change no matter how many time I fixed it in the settings. I also had to reflash the card to fix the date/time.
This is super weird. I'd totally go to the muOS discord and let the devs know about this bug. Tell them I sent you. :)

I am using Garlic OS on my RG355XX (non plus) which i really like but i don't think it will be available for the RG355XX-H which i have ordered and expect to be delivered in the next couple of days.

Technically, the GarlicOS dude is working on 2.0, but i wouldn't wait. It's been a long wait already. Best we enjoy what we already have in terms of CFW solutions. :)
Stock OS also has the "save state and turn off + turn on and load state on last played game" option.

IMO there’s too many issues with this firmware. You can’t easily remap buttons for N64 or Dreamcast, it drains the battery super fast, and there are still too many bugs
You can change N64 and Dreamcast to Retroarch. I have no comment on the battery drain other than I haven't experienced that.

Don't forget to save your config in retroarch after you make your changes to Auto save, auto load options folks. One thing, I'd like to see FBneo added as an active system. I can run individual games directly in retroarch but not as a class of system via muOS.
The one thing that I'd still love to do is OTA updates. After that, I'll stop pestering the muOS dev team. 😄

Weird, it should populate a rom folder tree in the second SD card the second you put it in. I never encountered this bug.
To be fair, I always start from scratch with cards. Each CFW handles secondary cards slightly different, which is a pita. Starting fresh prevents this. 😄

It's functioning normal on my 28xx and I even can play game through retroarch content. I just tried a single sd card setup and there is the same thing - Roms folder is empty with no folders inside. I guess it's something to do with the build for 28xx. Gonna wait for the next version

Maybe I missed it but how long does it takes to boot up the device from a complete shutdown? Stock OS takes like forever, but if muOS is significantly faster then that would be really enticing.

Ok, so i need some help please. I have tried multiple times to reflash my card with muos refried beans. It goes to the muos screen for about 3 seconds then total black. I have also tried all suggested download links and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you all in advance.
Redownload the img file and flash it on another card. Either the img file or the SD card is corrupted. :)

Just got my SP and am having serious trouble downloading muOS - its so slow and just stops and I have to start again. I have fast internet but it's just not happening.
Sorted now - seems the servers were busy - checked out the discord and got it in a minute

Just set the main page to the history tab in the muOS settings. It's sort of like a poor man's Game Switcher page. 😄

Is there a way to change the N64 emulator to retroarch? The standalone N64 emulator in MuOS doesn't let you change the resolution from 320 to 640. The hotkeys and functionality are much worse than retroarch. The only positive is there are no weird shadow issues.
Does DC and PSP use their standalone emulators?
Just concerned for devices that don't use retroarch want work with auto resume due to not being in retroarch

Just go to you N64 folder and hit select on a game to change the emulator. This will change it for all games associated with that system.
